First off I would like to say that this truck has some cosmetic defects and it isn't the prettiest vehicle on the road today. However, it is a solid truck that runs good and will provide many years of trouble free service for you. This truck has a 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel that runs strong. The odometer shows over 300,000 but this truck had a new long block put in it a little over 36,000 miles ago by a previous owner. This truck starts easy and runs well, it also has a block heater to make for easy cold weather starts. The oil and filter were recently changed and there also aren't any leaks on this truck to leave a mess in your driveway like many other trucks this old. The transmission in the truck is a 4-speed automatic overdrive, so it easily achieves interstate speed but still has enough grunt in the lower gears to pull a load.

The paint is in good shape overall and the truck had been painted sometime before I got it. There is some rust beginning to bubble up and show through in the common places, these include both fenders and rocker panels as shown in the pictures. There is a significant dent behind the drivers side door, but it could be pulled out. The paint has chipped in that area and needs to be touched up to prevent rust if the dent isn't pulled. The bed is an asset to this truck. Earlier this year it was removed from the truck and taken down to bare metal before being primed and repainted black. Since then it has seen some use, so some of the paint has been scratched off or scuffed so it is not perfect but it is in excellent shape. There is a gooseneck hitch in the bed and there is a wiring harness there for the lights and trailer brake as well as a brake controller, but I never used it so it never got hooked up and a plug installed. The wheels are aluminum and do have some corrosion on them as can be seen in the pictures. All of the tires hold air though and they all run straight and true. The tires have good tread on them too as can also be seen in the pictures.

The interior of this truck isn't in that bad of shape for a vehicle that has seen this much use. The front seats have stylish covers on them and the carpet is a little bit dirty but it is in tact and in good shape. The back seat has little wear and is in good shape for many years to come. The dash is in good shape for a vehicle of this vintage and all of the gauges work as they should. The steering wheel shows some wear from driving but it is still very usable. All of the power accesories work as well as the aftermarket radio that is in the dash.

This truck is a little old and battered but it is still a warrior ready for battle. It drives good and straight and the steering is tight just like it should be. There is no play anywhere and when you drive it, it doesn't feel like a truck with that many miles on it. The brakes are good and it stops easily. This truck is great for a work truck that you aren't afraid to put a little scratch or ding on from time to time. It has many miles of good service left in it and a fresh engine to tear up the open road. If you have any questions about the truck feel free to contact me at 3 zero 4 27 five 3 0 nine four or through ebay. Feel free to come and look at the truck before you bid if you feel unsure about anything. If you get the truck and feel that I have grossly misrepresented this truck then I will gladly give you your money back minus ebay's fees and let you go home no strings attached. Thanks for looking and bid to win.

Leno recalls '90s showdown with Tim Allen and his mullet

Wed, Oct 7 2015

Not many of us have buddies with garages full of classic cars, but that isn't the case for Jay Leno and Tim Allen. Of course, one of the advantages for two guys with such vast collections is occasionally getting to pit their cars against each other. The two comedians did just that in the mid-'90s with a burnout battle on The Tonight Show between Allen in a race-prepped Mustang and Leno in a drag racer. After some time away from regular television, Leno is returning to the airwaves with a Jay Leno's Garage series premiering on Oct. 7 (tonight) at 10:00 p.m. ET on CNBC. Let this clip serve as another taste of what to expect for the new TV show's mix of comedy and cars. After reminiscing about the old days in a gorgeous garage, the comedians get into two modern machines to reprise the classic challenge – after a little trash talk anyway. Don't worry because the YouTube series isn't going anywhere, though.

Ford Announces Four Recalls, 1.4M Vehicles Affected

Thu, May 29 2014

Ford is taking a bit of the spotlight away from General Motors, announcing a major group of recall campaigns, covering a total of 1.4 million vehicles built between 2006 and 2013. Let's start with the big one, which covers the Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner and, according to The Detroit News, Ford-built Mazda Tribute CUVs. 915,216 vehicles are covered, all of which were built in model years 2008 to 2011. 736,000 vehicles are in the US, while Canada then Mexico make up the vast majority of the remainder. The problem is due to an issue with the torque sensor in the steering column, which could lead to sudden power steering failure. Manual steering would still be available, though. "Dealers will perform one of three service fixes, depending upon what diagnostic codes are shown when the vehicle is taken to the dealer," Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker wrote to Autoblog in an email. "They will either update software for the power steering control module and the instrument cluster module; replace the torque sensor; or replace the steering column, which includes upgraded power steering control module software." The most recent generation of the Ford Explorer is suffering from a similar malady, thanks to an intermittent electrical connection (we think that means short circuit) in the steering column. Like the Escape and Mariner, manual steering would still be available in the event of a power failure. Ford will recall 195,527 examples of its Explorer, 177,500 of which are in the US. This recall covers model years 2011 to 2013. According to Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has stated that Ford will inform owners of affected vehicles by July 25. Ford is also recalling 200,000 Taurus sedans, over a corrosion issue in the license plate lamp. This particular recall, which covers vehicles from model years 2010 to 2014, is limited to drivers in northern climes. Vehicle owners in southern states are free to pass on the recall. Finally, 82,576 Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ sedans from 2006 to 2011 are being recalled because of floormats that can interfere with the accelerator pedal. Dealers will replace the offensive floormats with newer examples. "Ford is committed to providing our customers with top quality vehicles. We are equally committed to addressing potential issues and responding quickly for our customers," Felker wrote.

The fascinating forgotten civil defense history of Mister Softee trucks

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Hemmings came across an interesting article from the Throwin' Wrenches blog about the intersection of ice cream, cars and civic duty in America's late 1950s. In particular, it focuses on the Mister Softee trucks, which criss-crossed neighborhoods of the eastern US serving ice cream. Looking past the ultra-durable vehicles used - heavy-duty Ford-based chassis, for what it's worth - the article delves into some deeper national-security territory.
See, Mister Softee truck owners were voluntary members of the Civil Defense, thanks to all the useful stuff (potable water, generators, freezers and fridges) that the machines carried with them for serving ice cream. Click over to Throwin' Wrenches for the full run down of how Mister Softee would have stepped in to help fight if the Cold War ever turned a little hotter.
