1990 Ford Escort Gt Hatchback 2-door 1.9l on 2040-cars
Westminster, Maryland, United States
Runs and drives. It has an exhaust leak, it's ugly, there's a crack in the windshield and some rust, but it runs and drives. It has gotten me from a to b for a few months (since I bought it), now it's time to pass on this sweet machine to someone else. These GTs are actually pretty tough to find. They get decent gas mileage. Four cylinder engine and five speed manual transmission. I would always recommend coming to look at the car for yourself (bring your mechanic if you'd like) before putting in a bid. The great thing about this escort is that it's cheap. I've driven it as long as 3 hours over this summer. Apart from getting a little overheated in heavy traffic, she's done awesome. (I added some extra water to the resevoir and haven't had any problems with that since, but that could be because the weather has gotten cooler). The heat blows hot and so does the a/c. Well it's not actually hot, but I wouldn't call it cold either. Cruise control works. Any questions, contact me through email. Thanks and happy bidding! The odometer is only five digits on this car so it says something like 45,000. That doesn't seem too likely to me... could be 145k, could be 945k... there's no way to verify.
P.s. The car is also for sale locally pretty cheap, so get your bids in while you can. Reserve is well below buy it now price. |

Ford Mustang was almost 'Imported from Detroit'
Wed, Oct 7 2015The Ford Mustang achieved iconic status nearly the moment the sheet came off at the 1964 World's Fair. And if Henry Ford II wasn't getting divorced around that time, the pony car might have been called the Torino and been marketed as 'Imported from Detroit,' according to Automotive News. We'll explain. During research for the new book Once in a Great City: A Detroit Story, author David Maraniss found an interesting connection between Chrysler's (now FCA US) slogan and the Ford Mustang. Before the pony car even had a name, the Blue Oval's advertising agency had the idea to market it as a "brand new import ... from Detroit," according to Automotive News. The vehicle would be sold as "inspired by Italy's great road cars, but straight from Detroit." The name Torino was suggested, as well. However, the real world interfered in making the Mustang Detroit's first import. According to the author, Henry Ford II was getting a divorce, and his future wife was Italian. It was therefore thought to be a bad idea to sell the future pony car as being from Italy. Things clearly changed by the time the Torino hit the streets years later. Related Video:
Consumer Reports says Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevy are big winners in brand perception survey
Wed, 05 Feb 2014According to Consumer Reports, the automotive brands that stand out in the minds of car buyers are, in order: Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevrolet. This news comes after the magazine polled its readers, asking them to take into account vehicle quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design/style, and technology/innovation - which are the factors that car shoppers are most influenced by.
It's important to note that this award is only about perception. In other words, it's perceived quality, not actual quality. "Often, perception can be a trailing indicator, reflecting years of good or bad performance in a category, and it can also be influenced by headlines in the media," said Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy automotive editor.
The brand that made the biggest jump in perception amongst Consumer Reports readers is Tesla, which posted an impressive 47-point gain to finish in fifth place. Subaru is also notable for finishing in the top 10, despite being one of the smaller manufacturers doing business in the US. Is Tesla's next project an F-150 competitor? [w/poll]
Wed, 13 Nov 2013What's the future look like for Tesla after it launches the Model X CUV and possibly a smaller, sub-Model S sedan? Would you believe a pickup truck? Yes, Tesla could be looking to use its EV know-how to take the fight to Ford and the F-150, based on comments made by company founder Elon Musk.
"If you're trying to replace the most gasoline miles driven, you have to look at what people are buying," Musk said during an impromptu Q&A session following a speech at Business Insider's Ignition conference. "[The F-150 is] the best selling car in America. If people are voting that's their car, then that's the car we have to deliver."
And while the idea of electric pickup may sound kind of absurd to some, Musk makes a very valid point - if Tesla's goal is to replace gas miles with electrical miles, it simply can't afford to ignore pickups.
