The tailgate is shot (rusted though) and doesnt latch- will need a new one from the junk yard. Rusty-especially underneath."

Up for sale is my father's 1986 Ford Escort L diesel wagon with the 2.0l Mazda diesel engine and 5 speed manual transmission. Dad bought her new and drove it lovingly for 304,000miles, regularly changed oil (97 times), changed the timing belt every 80-100k, and logged it all in his log book (included).  It has set in the machine shed since 1999, but all I had to do was replace the battery and fuel filter, and it started right up. He got 40-50 mpg. So let's break it down like this:
The Good:  That Mazda diesel engine. It will run forever if you take care of it.  My dad drove like a Grandpa.  Really, he didnt change the brakes until 200k miles. He was the guy you had to pass on the two lane roads going 5 under the speed limit. The interior is good, the radio and tape player work, I'm including the log book and and the tech manuals that he had.  Tires are good, but 15 years old. Clutch is strong.
The Bad: The brakes are spongy, and the lines are rusty.  I would go through the entire brake system before feeling confident about whats behind the pedal.  The left rear wheel was stuck and took some muscle to get turning.  The parking brake doesnt work.  The tailgate is shot (rusted though) and doesnt latch- will need a new one from the junk yard.
The Ugly: Guys, she's rusty-especially underneath. I live in Minnesota, heart of the rust belt, and between the road salt and the moisture in the barn, the rust cancer has started and taken hold. I am including 4 doors from the junk yard, as the ones on it are flapping in the breeze.

You could drive it out of here, but go easy on the brakes- could break a line if you push too hard.

No reserve on the auction.

Ford calling in 28k Edge crossovers over fuel line leak

Thu, 16 Jan 2014

A problem with the fuel line on certain examples of the Ford Edge has prompted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall. The issue revolves around the metal housing on the fuel line pulse damper, which was apparently improperly manufactured in the first place and is prone to crack in certain circumstances, leading to a fuel leak. And as we all know, a fuel leak is not a good thing.
The problem affects model year 2012 and 2013 Edge crossovers equipped with the 2.0-liter engine and manufactured between September 2, 2010 and April 25, 2013 - a total of 27,933 units. Although the Lincoln MKX is closely related to the Edge, since it isn't offered with the same engine (to which the problem is related), the recall does not include the premium-badged version. See the recall notice below for further details.

Mustang driver proves wheels are overrated

Mon, 21 Apr 2014

We don't need to tell you that there's something missing in the image above. What we do need to tell you is that this is not a picture of a parked car stranded on the highway. This is, rather, just one frame from video of that three-wheeled Mustang traveling down the highway at highway-appropriate speed.
We don't know where you'd have to be nor how badly you'd have to be there to go shooting down the freeway in a car with three wheels, but if the New Daily News is correct, that place is somewhere in Texas. The video's short, but you'll have plenty of time to shake your head at it by just scrolling down.
