The Ferrari FF is an all-new model for 2012. Power comes from a 6.3-liter V12 that cranks out 651 horsepower and 504 pound-feet of torque. That's all directed through a dual-clutch, seven-speed automated manual transmission and a unique all-wheel-drive system. Essentially things begin with a typical rear-drive Ferrari layout that features a rear transaxle fitted with an electronic differential that can shunt power left or right depending on which tire has more traction. But instead of adding a traditional (and heavy) transfer case to send power to the front wheels, there is a second, smaller gearbox forward of the engine. This secondary transaxle sends power to the front wheels when the main transmission is in gears 1 through 4. It's all rear-wheel drive for gears 5 through 7. It's complicated, but the result is a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system that aids traction without killing that quintessential Ferrari fun. Ferrari claims a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds, and our initial driving experience with the FF reveals that it still delivers the expected thrilling acceleration and sharp, racecar-like handling. More surprising, our drive also revealed a comfortable ride thanks to its programmable suspension with Magna-Ride magnetorheological shock absorbers. As for the Ferrari FF's other oddity -- the body style -- there is no denying that it creates the most practical Ferrari yet. Not only does it have the traction to get to a ski locale, you can bring an extra pair of people with you. This is also the most luxurious Ferrari yet, sporting an abundance of leather trim previously reserved for Aston Martins and Bentleys. Day-to-day usability can be frustrating, however. Beyond the antiquated touchscreen electronics interface shared with various Chryslers, the turn signal and windshield wiper control stalks have been removed in favor of buttons on the steering wheel. This was done to free up space for the large paddle shifters, but can be annoying nevertheless. In total, the Ferrari FF is without question a unique car -- both for Ferrari and the exotic sports car class. For those seeking a GT car that can attack a winding road one weekend and go on an interstate road trip the next, there are few cars that can do it with such equal aplomb.

Ferrari FXX K could get even more extreme Evoluzione version
Tue, Jan 6 2015Whenever a new Ferrari comes out – a mid-engined one especially – speculation begins to ramp up over how the boys in Maranello could make it even faster. When the 458 Italia was revealed, for example, focus immediately turned to what would become the 458 Speciale – just as the F430 begat the 430 Scuderia before it. Ditto LaFerrari, which was instantly projected to breed a new track variant, and that's exactly what we got with the debut of the FXX K in Abu Dhabi last month. And now that it's here, speculation is beginning to mount for an even more hardcore Evoluzione version. Look over the history of Ferrari's Corse Cliente version and you'll see the original Enzo-based FXX was followed by an FXX Evoluzione, and the subsequent 599XX bred a similarly enhanced 599XX Evoluzione. It would stand to reason, then, that an FXX K Evoluzione could be in the cards, but it won't come anytime soon. Speaking with Autocar, Ferrari test driver, former grand prix pilot and Le Mans winner Marc Gene said, "Right now, I think we cannot improve" on the FXX K, "but no doubt something will come up. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens, but it won't be in two years." Approximately three years separated the debut of the FXX and FXX Evo, but the 599XX was only out for a year or two before the 599XX Evoluzione came around. If and when a FXX K Evo does arrive, Gene figures it will focus more on weight reduction, efficiency and handling than on power. As it is, the FXX K already produces 1,035 horsepower, after all. Given the nature of the XX development program, however, owners of the FXX K can expect their track machine to get incrementally more advanced as the Prancing Horse marque uses the program to test new components.
Ferrari Purosangue SUV test mule spied in video
Mon, Oct 22 2018We all know Ferrari has lost its shame and is working on an SUV, but here's the first hint of it with this video of what's most likely a Purosangue test mule. Yes, Ferrari Purosangue is the terrible name reportedly being given to the upcoming vehicle that Ferrari will not want you to call an "SUV." But what we're looking at here is the body of a GTC4Lusso with some obvious SUV hints. Just look at the ground clearance and wheel gap on this thing. That's clearly not typical Ferrari style. The video was captured by SupercarsNews on YouTube, and is actually quite comical too. As soon as the driver of the Ferrari notices the videographer standing by the fence, he jumps on the brakes and backs out of there behind the cover of trees. All was for naught, however, because we got to see and hear the test mule anyways. We don't imagine the Purosangue SUV/crossover thing will end up looking like this when it comes out. It is the first physical "proof" of the Ferrari utility vehicle, though, with a launch sometime early in the next decade forthcoming. Unfortunately, the quality of the video is on the poorer side of things, so it's difficult to pick much out beyond the high ride height. The sound of a modern Ferrari engine is evidently there — we wouldn't doubt this car being offered with an electrified powertrain too eventually. There's no information on where this video was shot, but chances are the videographer is right next to Ferrari's home in Maranello with this kind of a vehicle out and about. So go ahead and watch the video above -- it's a pretty weird sight to see a lifted Ferrari. Related video: Rumormill Spy Photos Ferrari Crossover SUV Luxury Performance
Ferrari-driving kid's parents charged by Indian police [w/video]
Tue, 30 Apr 2013Earlier this month, we reported on a video that was circulating the internet which showed a young boy driving a Ferrari F430 on a street in India while other children watched and two adults recorded the whole thing. And that was all that we knew at the time. Now, there is more information about the car, the kids and their parents thanks to an article in the Daily Mail. As it turns out, a wealthy businessman let his son drive the Ferrari as a present for his ninth birthday and recorded the whole thing while his six-year-old son was riding shotgun.
According to the report, the father, Muhammad Nizam, faces charges and possibly the seizure of the car for letting his son get behind the wheel. Oddly enough, the video is still up on YouTube, and we have it posted for you below.
