To start with, let me first say that I understand that there is a lot of information in my ad. I also understand that this may be boring to the person who is just looking and not buying. However, for the person who is looking to buy and spend their hard earned money, I feel that there is never too much information.

As to myself, I am not a dealer, just a (64) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I recently retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and have worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback which is 100% with (1,088) transactions. Many of those have been muscle cars which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland and Australia.

Just some quick history on the Super Bee. GM divisions had been doing it for years, but it wasn't until 1968 that the two MOPAR divisions, Dodge and Plymouth, began to engage in a bit of sibling rivalry. The result was the Dodge Super Bee, a direct competitor to Plymouth's Road Runner. Although a capable budget muscle car, it never was as successful as the Road Runner, which truly must have hurt.

Dodge watched as Plymouth launched their budget muscle car, the Road Runner, in the fall of 1967 as a 1968 model. Already upset that Dodge had coined the "road runner" name in a 1967 Coronet ad, Dodge responded by launching its own budget muscle car. Based on the redesigned Dodge Coronet pillared coupe, Dodge looked to its Scat Pack symbol and released its new model in the spring of 1968 as the Super Bee. The $3,027 base price was $131 more than the Road Runner, which used the same basic chassis. Curb weight was nearly identical, and both used the same engines, so performance was almost identical. The standard engine was the 335 bhp four barrel 383 cid V8 that borrowed cylinder heads, camshaft and induction system from the Magnum 440. The 426 Hemi was the only engine option, but at nearly $1,000 more, it clashed with the budget nature of the Super Bee and only 125 were ordered. The low price meant minimizing amenities, and although the Super Bee borrowed the Rallye gauge package from the Charger to edge out the Road Runner, a tachometer was still a $38 extra. A heavy duty suspension, brakes, four-speed manual transmission with Hurst Competition Plus shifter, and red-line wide oval tires were standard. The low price didn't mean low profile, and the Super Bee had bumble bee racing stripes circling the tail, and a big Super Bee emblem hovering on the rear fenders. The grille was finished in black matte and the hood had a decorative power bulge. The wheel lips and the rear body panel were accented with thin bright moldings. Inside, the Super Bee had door-to-door carpeting, pleated vinyl seats and door panels, and a standard bench seat.

The big news for MOPAR muscle car fans in 1969 was a new optional engine in several cars, including the Super Bee. MOPAR engineers took the existing 440 cid V8 and replaced the single Carter four barrel carb with three Holley two-barrel carbs on an Edelbrock Hi-Riser manifold, creating the Dodge 440 Six Pack (Plymouth called it the 440+6). Only the center carb was used for normal driving, but slamming on the fun pedal opened all six carbs for a combined 1,375 cfm rush. Hemi valve springs, a hotter cam, magnafluxed connecting rods, and other improvements helped boost output to 390 bhp. A Hurst four speed manual transmission was standard. Torqueflite automatic was optional, but disc brakes, air conditioning, and cruise control were not allowed. The Super Bee Six Pack came with one of the wilder hoods in muscledoom. The lift off hood was made of fiberglass, had a matte black finish, four NASCAR tie down pins, and a large air scoop molded right in with Six Pack written on the sides. The all business look was completed with standard black steel wheels, unadorned except for chrome lug nuts. The 440 Six Pack was a $463 option in 1969, and 1,907 were produced. The Six Pack could keep up with a Hemi up to 70 mph and came with a Hemi grade suspension that turned the Super Bee into a decent handler.

I am selling this A12 Super Bee for a good friend of mine and have actually seen this car in person and it is outstanding. Restored in 2000 by a retired teacher from northern Maine who has a passion for Mopars, he restored this rare example from the ground up, while maintaining it's factory appearance with no modifications. The A12 has only been driven approximately 800 miles since.  Driven to local car shows, this, Super Bee has won 1st place trophies everywhere it went.

The engine bay is nicely detailed, new engine bay wiring harness, solid inner fender aprons, firewall refinished in vibrant Red finish and just as nice as the exterior finish. The exhaust manifolds could use some refinishing in the powder coat system.  Original fender tag has some slight rust, but legible.  A new reproduction tag is also included with the car.  Reproduction Six Pack hood that fits great.  Metal hood props, hood pin tie downs riveted to the hood plates that are not scratched or worn.  The overall appearance of the engine compartment is very good, only needs minor detailing to bring it to show quality. The exterior body and paint has countless hours of labor comprised to achieve the straight body and exceptionally nice paint with no flaws noticed.  Restored bright work and stainless, polished and looks fantastic.  White vinyl Bumble bee tail stripe.  Doors that open and close with ease.  High attention to detail in the door, trunk and fender jamb areas.  Complete new weather strip kit, window felts, quarter vent rubbers, excellent chrome on the vent windows, stainless roof drip rail, driver's side remote mirror, new wheel opening moldings, orig. The bumpers are re-chromed to show quality, restored original front grille, refinished turn signal lenses, original side marker lenses are in fantastic shape.  GE head lamp bulbs, new door handles, door locks with new gaskets, keys work and lock both doors.  The car has the correct style radio antenna, rear bumper guards, original tail light bezels and the chrome trim is in excellent shape.  Looking in the trunk, the car has its original trunk pan with factory spot welds, full size H wheel spare tire, original jack, new reproduction trunk mat. The underside of the trunk has a beautifully restored appearance with new jacking instructions and crayon markings, G70x15 as the factory would have done. Restored trunk and striker with the correct finish. Looking at the interior of this A-12 Six pack car, you'll notice the car shows like a freshly restored car. New seat covers, door panels, carpet, headliner, dash pad, factory seat belts, arm rest pads and bases, new chrome, plastic chrome on the switches, restored quartz clock, am radio, factory tachometer, all the gauges work.  Aftermarket single oil pressure gauge neatly installed under the dash.  Custom embroidered Super bee floor mats, restored shoulder belts, new sill plates and glove box liner, restored ash tray with working cigarette lighter, brake and e-brake pedals, the steering wheel is an original 3 spoke sport imitation wood steering wheel that has been repaired in one area, yet has 2 small cracks in the wheel.  New rear package tray. The interior is very comfortable and is in A-1 condition. Colum shift automatic with 6 passenger seating for the entire family!  Checking out the underside of this Mopar...it has a factory or dealer installed undercoating that is hard as a rock!  Appears to have all its original floor pans, with one tiny repair by the gas pedal right where your heel would rest, but looks great.  All new front end components, shocks, brake and fuel lines, reconditioned orig. gas tank, completely overhauled brake system, e-brake cables etc.  Ball joints, tie rod ends, center link, sway bars bushings are all new.

Let’s face it, how many of these 6-Pack Super Bees are left? It seems like all I see today on the internet are what they call; CLONES, REPRODUCTIONS, RECREATIONS and TRIBUTE CARS. I am not knocking these cars but my point is that it is becoming more and more difficult to find the “REAL DEAL.” However, if you win this auction, that is exactly what you will get, the “REAL DEAL.”

I know from previous experience that there is never too much information for the serious collectors. So, for all of you numbers guys and gals, this is for you.

Rare Dodge Shelby Dakota is a very '80s sport truck

Fri, Jun 3 2016

The late-great Carroll Shelby built an incredibly successful career of making all sorts of cars faster, more often than not, with a bigger or more potent engine under the hood. The icons are well known—legends like the Shelby Cobra, GT350 Mustang, and the big GT500. But by the 1980s, Shelby was plying his trade over at Chrysler, at the behest of chairman Lee Iacocca, churning out special editions like the Dodge Shelby Charger, zippy CSX, rorty GLHS, and this—the 1989 Shelby Dakota muscle truck. 1,500 of these racy pickups were built for just one year and a whole two-and-a-half decades later they still turn heads. This one especially. The spotless pickup recently turned up for sale online , and its odometer reads a claimed 25,307 miles. So what makes these rarified work trucks special? As with most Shelbys, it starts under the hood. Up until 1989, the standard Dodge Dakota pickups were offered in only four-cylinder and V6 variants. But Dodge (and Shelby) wanted more, so the larger 5.2-liter Magnum V8 from Dodge's full-size pickup was shoehorned into the midsize Dakota, albeit not effortlessly. To fit, Dodge had to swap the V8's belt-driven fan for an electric unit mounted in front of the radiator. That did the trick, as well as earned the V8 a few extra ponies, pushing the special Dakota up to 175 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. That performance may sound paltry by today's standards, but in 1989 it was seen as quite sporty, and netted a zero to 60 mph dash in 8.5 seconds. A four-speed automatic with lockup torque converter transmitted that power to the rear wheels. Additional Shelby performance goodies included a limited-slip differential, transmission cooler, along with a host of eye-catching body mods, including a unique air dam and bumpers, Shelby floor mats, monogramed seats and door panels, a "CS" steering wheel, 15-spoke hollow alloy wheels, and shouty body graphics. While the Shelby Dakota didn't return for 1990, its V8 legacy did continue, and in 1991 the 5.2-liter eight-cylinder became an option on new Dakotas. Of the 1,500 Shelby Dakota pickups built, 860 were dressed in red while a rarer 640 came adorned in Bright White. This '89 is said to be #245 of those white trucks, sold new to its original (and sole) owner in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, for $15,985 (the Shelby package cost $3,933 in its day). Currently, it's demanding bids north of $10,000 for its low-mileage originality. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.

Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker and Mopar '14 Challenger up the retro appeal

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

The reborn Dodge Challenger might be getting a bit long in the tooth, having been on the market in its current form since 2008, but Chrysler isn't going to give up on its brutish, full-size two-door just yet. For this year's SEMA Show, the Challenger will be getting a new Mopar edition, as well as a retro-cool shaker hood on the 5.7-liter, Hemi-equipped R/T models.
As we mentioned last night, the Shaker Package will cost $2,500, but includes the Super Track Pak (new steering rack, brake linings, upgraded shocks and 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car tires), a $595 option on its own. The shaker hood result in a performance bump of any kind, but the blacked-out, pop-up scoop is a nifty feature that hasn't been seen on a production car since the Ford Mustang Mach 1 in the early 2000s.
The Mopar '14 Challenger (pictured right) follows the cues of previous Mopar Editions, which have included the 2010 Challenger, 2011 Charger, 2012 300 and 2013 Dart. Only 100 Mopar '14 Challengers will be produced, and they'll include the new shaker hood, Mopar's distinctive blue graphics and wheels, and whatever is pilfered from the accessory catalog.

Dodge Challenger Shaker cars get Shakedown package stripes

Thu, Mar 8 2018

In 2016, Dodge brought a custom 1971 Dodge Challenger to the SEMA show called the Shakedown. It melded modern Challenger parts with the classic model's body, and did so almost seamlessly. It of course featured a shaker hood scoop, and it also had a set of stripes to one side that gradually decreased in size to give the feeling of vibration and movement. The reception was clearly good, because Dodge has created a set of stripes just like those on the show car for modern shaker Challengers and made them available in a package with the Shakedown name. The Shakedown package is new for 2018 and available only on Challengers with the shaker hood scoop. These include the R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker, and 392 Scat Pack Shaker. Just like on the concept, the stripes are all to one side and wrap around the hood scoop. The only difference is that they're all one color, whereas the '71 custom car had one stripe in red. In addition to the stripes, the package adds white-face gauges and an upgraded Alpine audio system. On R/T and R/T Plus models, this system has six speakers with a 275-watt amplifier, while the system on the Scat Pack has nine speakers with a 506-watt amplifier. The cost of the Shakedown package is $995, and it's available with any color of Challenger Shaker. And on the topic of colors, Dodge has also revived Plum Crazy and B5 Blue for 2018 Chargers and Challengers. Those colors will be available on any Charger or Challenger regardless of trim level.
