Restomods are something everyone can appreciate. It doesn't matter if you're a fan of authentic, factory-correct
builds or wild pro streets, cars like this 1973 Dodge Challenger will catch everyone's eyes and bring them in for a
closer look. After going through a ground up, rotisserie restoration, this car mixes some of the best features of
Challengers and a 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda of the era, for one incredible E body car....dubbed the "CHACUDA".
This car started life as a 1973 Dodge Challenger, but that would be hard to identify as the front grill,
headlights, and bumper are from a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda. That grill was fitted very nicely and blends well with
the Challenger fenders. Topping that grill is an authentic '70-72 shaker hood that maintains its asthetics, but has
not been modified to be functional due to the fuel injected motor underneath. Walking toward the rear of the car
you'll notice the door handles, marker lights, side mirrors, and antenna have been shaved for a smooth look. The
trunk deck is brand new and is capped with a 1970 'Cuda spoiler. Beneath that spoiler is a custom fabricated 1970
'Cuda rear valance that perfectly melds to the Challenger body and houses OEM tail lights with a matching 'Cuda
bumper below. You'll also notice the gas filler has been shaved from the passenger side and has been relocated to
the rear behind the license plate just like the Barracudas. Covering all of this wonderful body work is a glossy
coat of Bright Silver Metallic from a 2012 Challenger, with a Tungsten Metallic finish covering the hood and top of
the front fenders for a subtle two-tone finish. No restomod look is complete without the right wheels, and the 18"
5 spoke wheels from a 3rd generation Challenger are a good choice.
Pop open the doors with the remote electronic actuator and you'll find an interior that is familiar to a '73
Challenger, but benefits from a few modern updates. The first update you'll notice are the black vinyl seats up
front that flank the center console. That console houses the cool pistol grip shifter and is accented in carbon
fiber look to help tie in the vehicles appearence. The guage cluster contains factory instrumentation and is also
highlighted with the faux carbon fiber. Below those gauges is a JVC AM/FM/CD head unit, and cotnrols for the
Vintage Air air conditioning, and heat. With exception of the very clean dash, everything inside is new. The rear
bench is covered in taut, black vinyl, the carpets have seen little wear, and the driver takes control with a great
looking 3-spoke steering wheel. To get the fun started, there is a secret push button start located in the ash trat
for security to make it hard for any unwelcomed joy riders to take control of this CHACUDA.
Quite possible the best feature of this car is that is is powered by a 5.7L fuel injected Hemi V8 thats creates 335
horsepower. That Hemi is nestled in a clean and tidy engine bay that is surrounded by color matched, silver painted
fenders and firewall. Power is sent to a rebuilt 727 automatic transmission that sends power to an 8.75" rear end.
Underneath you'll find a very clean chassis. The suspension is all recently new, and all of the hardware has been
cleaned, sanded, primed, and painted. The floor pans and frame rails have been painted in a gloss black for a great,
show worthy look. There is also a new gas tank with a new fuel pump, a new wiring harness, and a rebuilt
radiator...so you can be sure that this car was restored with reliability in mind. Supplementing the drive is power
steering and power brakes with discs up front, while 235/40/18 Falken Ziex ZE612 rubber keeps this CHACUDA planted
to the road. Included with the sale is a large photo album that documents the build of this car from start to
finish and shows the level of detail that was put into this amazing car.

Dodge Challenger ADR prototypes spied with massive rubber
Mon, Oct 3 2016In an effort to give the Dodge Challenger one last hurrah before making the switch to the Giorgio platform in 2018, Automotive News reports that the automaker will come out with the Challenger ADR. The ADR, which stands for American Drag Racer, is expected to be a wide-body, Hellcat-powered variant that is closely based off of the current model. The report seems to have merit, as photographers have captured Challenger prototypes testing with massive tires. The prototypes look extremely similar to the current Challenger SRT Hellcat with the same hood scoop, front fascia design, rear spoiler construction, and rear end. The white and purple vehicles, though, are wearing extremely wide tires. The extra-wide rubber on the prototypes appear to have a similar tread design as the ones found on the Dodge Viper ACR, which features the grippy Kumho Ecsta V720. While the ACR wears 295 mm tires at the front, the car's rear tires are massive at 355 mm. The tires found on the prototype don't appear to be as large as the ones found on the ACR, but are expected to be larger than the current Challenger SRT Hellcat's, which are Pirelli P Zero Neros measuring 275 mm at all four corners. The Challenger ADR, with its wider, stickier tires is expected to cater to drivers that are looking to put all of the supercharged 6.2-liter V8's power to the ground. The rear-wheel-drive ADR is expected to come with a wide-body kit, which is missing from the prototypes. The Hellcat-powered, wide-body Challenger ADR is expected to make an appearance later in 2017, with an all-wheel-drive model (sans Hellcat engine) known as the GT AWD following closely thereafter. 1985 Dodge Omni GLH | eBay Find of the Day
Thu, Mar 7 2019Cars from the 1980s weren't exactly known for performance. The muscle car days had ended a decade prior, and computer controls and precision engineering standards were still in their infancy. But that doesn't mean the decade was a complete loss for automotive enthusiasts. For proof, take a look at this 1985 Dodge Omni GLH that's currently for sale on eBay. Carroll Shelby's affiliation with Ford was in hiatus (and under litigation in court), but the legendary tuner wasn't content to sit around and do nothing. Shelby turned to Dodge right around the time that the American company was dipping its toes into turbocharging. The partnership led to several interesting vehicles, but perhaps none of them were as unexpected as the Shelby-modified Omni hatchback. The '85 GLH you see above is powered by a turbocharged 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that sends 146 horsepower to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. These days, that might not sound like a lot of power. But when you consider that the base LG4-code 305-cubic-inch V8 in the Chevy Camaro Z28 spun out 155 hp that same year, you start to understand why the Shelby Omni was a big deal. Suspension changes to the Omni GLH included stiffer springs, firmer shocks, and a lowered ride height that dropped the bodywork closer to its 15-inch aluminum wheels. GLH badging — which, in true Shelby fashion stood for "Goes Like Hell" — and blacked-out bodywork rounded out the updates. Dodge sold 6,513 Omni GLH models in 1985, and just 3,509 were equipped with the turbocharged engine. You'll have to look long and hard to find one that's nicer than this on eBay. The seller claims it's mostly in original condition, and its low odometer reading of 15,901 miles seems to back that up. It's located in Wixom, Michigan, with an asking price of $18,900.
Consumer Reports says Ram 1500 tops fuel economy fight [w/video]
Wed, Aug 27 2014Consumer Reports takes its independent vehicle testing procedures seriously. In an era when we have to question the EPA's official ratings thanks to recent re-evaluations from Ford and Hyundai, an independent voice is important. So, when CR says something is the best, it's worth paying attention to. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has "about the same fuel-economy numbers that we typically see in a midsized SUV." – Jake Fisher In this case, CR took a look at the fuel economy of the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and found that it came out on top of the fullsize pickup truck pack. The Ram did so with 20 miles per gallon overall and 27 mpg on the highway. CR gave the truck a total road test score of 82. The EPA says that the EcoDiesel 1500 gets 28 mpg on the highway, 20 mpg city and 23 mpg combined. Comparing official EPA numbers, the Ram is also the best among trucks in its class. It's nice when people agree on something. As we know from first-hand, long-distance experience, you can push the 1500 EcoDiesel to 38 mpg. CR found in its own testing that the truck had, "about the same fuel-economy numbers that we typically see in a midsized SUV," said Jake Fisher, CR's director of automotive testing, in a statement. Speaking of midsized SUVs, CR also announced this week that the new Toyota Highlander Hybrid got the top spot in CR's ratings in that category. CR liked pretty much everything about the SUV, saying that the "transitions between electric power and the gas engine are seamless" and that, "the new Highlander also handles better, with a steadier ride and reduced body lean in corners." You can find more at the CR website, in the October print issue of Consumer Reports or in the video and press release below. This content is hosted by a third party. RAM ECODIESEL 1500 TOPS CONSUMER REPORTS FULL-SIZE PICKUP TRUCK RATINGS Redesigned Toyota Highlander Hybrid Climbs to Top of Midsized SUV List Yonkers, N.Y.- The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel climbed to the top of Consumer Reports' full-size pickup truck ratings with an impressive performance in the organization's fuel economy tests. The EcoDiesel (82 point overall road test score) turned in a best-in-class fuel economy of 20 mpg overall and 27 mpg on the highway, to help it score better than the previously tested Ram 1500 V8 (81) regular gas version and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT (80).
