1957 Dodge Custom Royal

Hello classic Mopars and Exner's big fin car fans.  Here is a very rare, all original and unmolested 1957 Dodge Custom Royal 2 door hardtop with super rare factory installed air (AC) and power brakes (with booster).  I believe that this is the model under the even rarer D500 Dodge.  This very solid and straight automobile has been in enclosed storage for many, many years awaiting restoration and/or refurbishing (no need to go all out to make this car a nice driver).  Very solid body showing only minimal and/or no damage except for the driver side fender, which shows a good "ding" on the front edge.  I will include a replacement fender and side stainless steel trim piece which are damage free if the car is purchased at the "Buy It Now" price - it will cost extra otherwise.  There is normal, minor rust here and there (mostly surface discoloration, but some areas do show pitting, such as the floor and trunk pans).  It appears that a patch was partially installed over the existing front floor pans (looks  quite solid, but not exactly professional as far as workmanship goes); this was done a long time ago, before I bought the car.  The frame looks very good and solid.  The exterior paint is in good condition and may not even need to be redone; a very good detail or buffing with compounds/waxes may produce quite a surprisingly good result.  The car does not run, but rolls and steers fairly well.  I do not remember which size the big V8 engine is (318 or 331?).  I was told that the motor did turn when I bought the car but I never tried to find out as the car went into storage as soon as I received it.  I would suggest that a good mechanic have a go at it.  I don't think the engine needs much, (it's all there) but do expect some mechanical work to be needed for sure.  It has a push button transmission, most likely a  727 Torqueflite.  The windshield is cracked/has a small hole on the driver's side and will need to be replaced.  The passenger side front window has a crack in it but the rest of the glass is in great/excellent condition.  All the stainless steel trim is in good to very good condition.  Some of the DODGE scripts/letters are missing on the hood and trunk lid.  The bumpers are very solid and straight, the rear one could be re-chromed.  The interior is all original, but will need to be restored.  The seats need to be reupholstered, new carpet installed, etc.  Three of the original headliner panels will need to be reinstalled (they are now in the trunk).  The instrument panel and dashboard are in pretty good condition and are complete, a good cleaning and buffing should work magic.  The odometer shows only just over 75K (75,025 miles) from new, which are believed to be original based on the good/great overall condition of the car.

This big fin '57 Dodge is in remarkable condition (by comparison with what is usually found/available) and is absolutely worthy of someone's time and financial investment.  Although needed, the restoration can be as minimal or as involved as the new owner will want.  This was my intent several  years ago when I bought this car (and another 1957 Dodge Coronet 2 door post to perhaps also restore and/or use as a perfect donor for a few items the Custom Royal could use - windshield, scripts, etc.).  I, however got busy, life happened/changed and I never got to it.  Although I love cars, I unfortunately do not know how to work on them and I have no choice but to have to use shops and other people, and they are not cheap!  Now, as I am moving and my storage situation has changed I have decided to pass the torch to someone with more experience, time and enthusiasm and hope that they will be able to bring this great original survivor back to its former glory.  They don't make cars like this anymore you know and they are harder to find as time goes by - especially the ones with these rare options.  You always see a lot of classic muscle at car shows, but seldom enjoy any big fin late 50's and they always do bring attention and deserved appreciation. It is my wish to see this rare car be acquired by a similarily appreciative person.

Please see my other auction currently running, for a 1957 Dodge Coronet 2 door post, white & gold.  I would entertain/prefer to sell both cars together as they are the perfect match for each other in terms of restoration ease, as well as transaction and shipping details.

Please call me with any questions at 303-941-1765.  You are welcomed and encouraged to look at the cars in person before bidding, but the photos should be quite helpful in assisting you to make a good decision.  Bid with confidence - see my 100% positive feedback.  More photos may be available upon request.  Please note that the red tail light plastic lenses are inside the trunk in a box with a couple of extra parts.

Thanks for your interest in my action(s)! Happy and successful bidding!

Dodge Dart falls short of Consumer Reports Recommended, Caddy XTS and Lincoln MKS, too

Thu, 22 Nov 2012

The Dodge Dart, Cadillac XTS and Lincoln MKS all failed to earn a "Recommended" rating from Consumer Reports. When it came to the compact Dart, the organization's testers thought the vehicle offered a quiet cabin, solid-feeling chassis and nimble suspension, but the new model ultimately fell short of the coveted rating due to powertrain issues. The institute's reviewers found the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to be underpowered and noted "drivability issues" when the available turbocharged 1.4-liter four was paired with the optional dual-clutch transmission (some of our editors disliked it paired with the six-speed manual). CR also dinged the latter powerplant for sounding "raspy." For what it's worth, we think the forced-induction engine offers an excellent and playful exhaust note, but that's just us.
As for the XTS, CR lauded the car for its luxurious cabin, but the vehicle's experience was dulled by its finicky CUE infotainment interface. Overall, the big Cadillac scored much higher than its cross-town rival from Lincoln. While testers found the American luxury sedan to offer a quiet ride and quality fit and finish, they felt the MKS delivered a "cramped driving position, ungainly handling, uncomposed ride, and limited visibility." Ouch. At the end of the day, both cars fell short of rivals from Japan, Germany and Korea. Check out the full press release below with more details, along with CR's musings on the Chevrolet Spark and Lexus ES.

Mopar '13 Dart will roll into Chicago next week

Thu, 31 Jan 2013

We think this officially counts as a tradition. Every year going back to 2010, Mopar has rolled out a limited edition version of a popular product from the Chrysler Group portfolio. First it was the Mopar '10 Challenger, then the Mopar '11 Charger, then last year's Mopar '12 300, and this year it will be the Mopar '13 Dart, which will make its official world debut next week at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.
Limited in number to just 500 units, the Mopar '13 Dart is no mere appearance package, though the demeanor of the Dart will be murdered out with a gloss black finish, gloss black 18-inch wheels, a set of Mopar blue stripes and a mean-looking Mopar ground effects kit. Likewise, the interior is touched up with leather seats (a blue one for the driver and black hides for the passengers), gloss black and black chrome trim, blue accent stitching, a sport pedal kit and other Mopar interior accessories.
Turning our attention back to the mechanical bits, the Mopar '13 Dart comes with the car's most powerful engine, a turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir four (shared with Fiat 500 Abarth) that's paired with a manual transmission. Those big, black wheels get wrapped in low profile 225/40R18 performance tires, and keeping everything in check is an upgraded brake kit with slotted rotors. The steering has also been calibrated for performance, the suspension lowered seven millimeters, and the exhaust tuned for better engine breathing.

Dodge pulls New Girl and The Office stars for new Dart spots

Wed, 06 Aug 2014

Dodge is hoping that a heavy dash of humor helps it move some more units of the Dart with a hilarious ad campaign called Don't Touch My Dart. The spots star actors Craig Robinson, best known for his role as Darryl on The Office, and Jake Johnson from New Girl as neighbors and friends playing a game of one-upmanship over Robinson's new car. Johnson is envious of the ride and just wants to touch it.
The ads are pretty funny if you're a fan of somewhat absurdist humor, and Robinson has just the right amount of over-the-top seriousness to really make the commercials work. They have kind of a Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote vibe with Johnson constantly in inept pursuit of what he wants, but he clearly isn't getting it.
The first four spots in the campaign are already online, but according to Dodge this is just the beginning. The company says that it's planning about 24 different versions of these ads in various lengths to play on TV and online. You can check out the ads titled First Scratch, Birdhouse Police Garage Door and Voice Touching below, along with the brand's release about the new ads. There's also a pretty good gag on its YouTube page with Robinson protecting his Dart.
