Up for auction is this 1971 Datsun 240Z. I rescued it from the back yard of the previous owner who had owned it for the past 25 or so years. She brought it up from California to Idaho several years ago and after a few years she parked it and that is where it sat for the past several years. Cosmetically it is in very good unrestored shape. It has a nice driver quality paint job with American Racing wheels and good tires. The body is very straight. The only rust through I have found is a very small area on the passenger side floor pan, shown in one of the pictures. The head liner and rear plastic panels are in good shape. The rear carpet is in place and in good shape. It is missing the front floor board carpets. The seats are in very good shape also. The driver’s seat has a small imperfection on the lumbar pad as seen in the picture. The dash has some cracking also. The original tool kit, jack and Nissan wheel chocks are in place in the rear compartment. Speedometer doesn’t seem to be accurate and the clock doesn’t work either. The rest of the gauges seem to work fine. The stereo doesn’t currently work. This is a factory optioned air conditioning car. The air conditioning pump is missing off the engine, so currently it doesn’t work but all controls are in place. The heater has been by-passed and the heater core removed so currently the heater isn’t operational. The engine still has the original smog pump on it and operational. I have a folder of maintenance records from the previous owner. The car currently has 87,659 original miles on it. I have receipts showing the engine was rebuilt around 40,000 miles ago. Since it has sat for some time I added some Sea Foam to it and have ran it around for a bit and it seems to run very good. It has a lot of power and I think with a simple tune up, some tlc and just running it some more it will be an awesome driver. The brakes work great too. The original 4 speed transmission was replaced with a 5 speed. The original 4 speed transmission is included with the auction. The clutch seems to be in need of replacement soon although I am not a mechanic and that is only my unprofessional opinion! The throw-out bearing is making some noise and the clutch doesn’t have much play at all before engaging. It is still drivable and shifts through all the gears. This is a great classic Z that will make an awesome daily driver or easily taken to the next level. I have a clean and clear Washington state title in my name and ready to sign over to the new owner. Datsun to unveil second model later this month
Sun, 08 Sep 2013Datsun, Nissan's new sub-brand for emerging markets, has announced plans to unveil its second model. Its first, the Go, was unveiled almost two months ago, and promised affordable, connected motoring for five in a handsome hatchback body. Datsun is following that up with a pair of new models for Indonesia.
The first of these two new vehicles will be shown on September 17 in Jakarta, eschewing the typical auto show debut. It's targeted at so-called "risers," the nickname for a group of highly aspirational customers in the Indonesian market. Datsun developed it locally with help from Nissan, and it'll cost under 100 million Indonesian rupiah (about $8,900 at today's rates).

Malaise Era All-Stars
Fri, 17 May 2013A few weeks ago, we bid a fond happy 40th anniversary to the automotive dark ages of 1973-84 that have come to be known as "The Malaise Era" - the performance ice-age when 160 horsepower was a lot and a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds was remarkable. Like music in the 1980s, everything in automobiledom didn't suck, however. There were a few bright spots. Here are five of our favorites:

Datsun Redi-Go is reborn brand's first concept car [w/video]
Wed, 05 Feb 2014Nissan's plan for its reborn Datsun sub-brand just got a shot in the arm, as the emerging-market manufacturer has unveiled its first concept car since its resurrection back in 2012. Called the Redi-Go Concept, it looks like a high-riding version of Datsun's recently launched Go hatchback that's been fitted with a few concept car cues (not a bad thing).
The Redi-Go packs LED taillights, Datsun's "D-cut grille" and LED running lights into its Go-inspired body. Funky two-tone 15-inch wheels add a bit of cheek to the overall design, and in our minds look quite good, despite being so small. The ruggedized front and rear bumpers, as well as the sill and wheel arch surrounds add to the Redi-Go's rough-and-tumble aesthetic. We like that Datsun has kept the overall package short, giving the Redi-Go a 92.5-inch wheelbase, rather than creating a lifted version of the upcoming Go+. There are no specific mentions of the Redi-Go's mechanicals, although we'd wager that a production model might share the 1.2-liter engine and five-speed manual found in the standard Go.
While it might be easy to dismiss a concept like the Redi-Go in America, there's no denying its importance to the Indian market, which is decidedly more limited when it comes to available bodystyles. "If we were to make a car like Datsun Redi-Go Concept it would be a segment creator in India, an aspirational car that at the same time is attainable, a car that would be within reach of the first time buyer. This concept shows how serious we are about reinvigorating the market by catering for the needs of a growing class of Indians who have the chance to own a family car that will enable them to enjoy a new sense of independence," said Vincent Cobee, the global head of Datsun.
