1973 Chrysler 2-dr Newport Coupe, 440 Big Block on 2040-cars

Year:1973 Mileage:84600
Location:

Springfield, Oregon, United States

Springfield, Oregon, United States

Up for auction is this gigantic  (19'-3" long!) Chrysler Newport, with a 440 big block, and factory AC. It hasn't run since 1992, but ran good when the guy parked it.  He was going to remove the 440 for another project, but decided it was too nice to scrap out.  And I agree.

Body: excellent shape, with 2 exceptions: rust  spot in right rear quarter, and the worst place being under the back window.  Original paint that can still be brought back; I did a small area with rubbing compound. White vinyl roof, with bubbles here & there underneath.  All the trim is in excellent shape, and not missing anything.

Really nice chrome bumpers, with front grill being immaculate.  Nice lights all the way around, too.  Even the black rubber bumper guards look good.

Interior:  Original white vinyl that is still pliable, but needs cleaned.  I took at the rotten carpet; there is one small rust hole in the floor, on driver's side  (shown in photo).  No headliner.  Dash looks very nice, with no cracks, but there is an aftermarket radio.  Trunk is rock solid, but with surface rust color.  Brand new keys that I had made work fine.

Drivetrain:  440 ci big block that hasn't run in years.  I do not know if it will turn over; I do not want to try in case I damage something...it needs prepped first.  3-spd auto tranny.  Has the factory front disc brakes; I took out the rear brakes so it would roll freely - parts are in separate marked boxes in back.

This could be a really great cruiser if someone would take the time to fix it up.  Everything needs to be gone through & checked.  Occasionally  I see 4-dr models come up for sale, but when was the last time you saw a coupe?

Shipping arrangements are up to buyer.  I will trailer it to a pick-up point 10 miles from my house, since big trucks can't go up my road.  Be sure to emphasize that it does NOT run, and does not have brakes, so there are no surprises.

Clear Oregon title, in my name.

Good luck bidding!  Any questions please email or call me (eves PST)  541-726-8467

Chrysler investing $20M in Toledo plant to support 9-speed auto production

Sun, 28 Apr 2013

In 2011, Chrysler announced a $72-million investment in its Toledo Machining Plant to modernize production of the eight- and nine-speed torque-converters for automatic transmissions made there. That upgrade work won't be finished until Q3 of this year, but Chrysler has already announced a further $19.6-million investment to increase production capacity for the nine-speeders.
The extra units will be necessary because the nine-speed transmission they'll be mated to is going into three popular models: it will debut on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, then go into the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart. The company predicted that this year alone it would sell 200,000 units equipped with the nine-speed tranny, and it is spending some $374 million in addition to the investment in Toledo to upgrade production capacity for it.
The work attached to this new investment won't begin until Q3 of 2014, and it will be finished by the end of that year. There's a press release below with all the details.

Chrysler banks $507 million in Q2, trims 2013 earnings forecast

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Chrysler has some good news and some bad news. First, profits were up 16 percent over the second quarter of 2012, bringing the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based manufacturer $507 million on the back of strong demand for trucks and SUVs (a recurring theme this quarter, particularly in the US). Q2 revenue was up as well, from $16.8 billion in 2012 to $18 billion in 2013. The bad news is that the Pentastar's overall earnings forecast for net income in 2013 has been trimmed from $2.2 billion to between $1.7 and $2.2 billion, according to Automotive News.
In addition to the adjusted net income forecast, Chrysler tweaked its operating profit from $3.8 billion to between $3.3 and $3.8 billion. This has gone largely unexplained by Chrysler, perhaps hoping the news of a three-percent increase in its transaction prices for Q2 will allow it to sweep this adjustment under the rug.
The star of the show for Chrysler has been its US sales, which saw a 10-percent jump, both bettering the industry average of eight percent and improving over the same stretch of 2012. As with the increase in transaction prices, Chrysler has the new Ram pickup and Jeep Grand Cherokee to thank. Perhaps most worrying from this report, though, is that every brand in the automaker's stable saw an increase in sales... except for the Chrysler brand itself.

Chrysler IPO to be filed as early as this week

Mon, 16 Sep 2013

An initial public offering for the Chrysler Group could happen this week, following Sergio Marchionne's comments to Financial Times in London, according to a report from The Detroit News. Fiat, which owns 58.5 percent of Chrysler, has been in a battle with the UAW retiree healthcare trust over its minority stake in the company. While the automotive union recognizes its role as a temporary shareholder, the two couldn't come to an agreement on how the shares should be priced.
As Marchionne explained to FT, a Chrysler IPO allows the market, rather than the two competing sides, to determine the value of the shares. The public offering is a risky move, which could potentially hang one side out to dry - if the shares go high, it's bad news for Fiat, but if they go low, the UAW stands to lose. Regardless of where the stock prices go in an IPO, though, it's a move that's being supported by analysts, who are quick to cite Chrysler's near-constant growth and a product lineup that is getting healthier with each new introduction.
