Ripon, Wisconsin, United States
This is your chance! You have a 300 hardtop you want to build, but you would rather have a convertible! Here is the car you need. Take your solid hardtop and turn it into a convertible.
This car came out of pole shed in Michigan. Untouched for the last 20 years, other than being used as a table from time to time, it appears. The upside is that the lack of movement has prevented parts from going missing. That I am aware, the only parts not present in this car are: Carpet Front Kick Panels Passenger Mirror 1 hubcap I have the keys for the car. I am going to walk through all areas of the car regarding condition. My goal is that you know what you are buying as much as possible. If I haven't covered an area that you have questions about, please do ask a question or ask for additional pictures. My reserve is low for what I think this car could be. I will not share what my reserve is. Overall, the car is rusty on the bottom. The higher up on the car you get, the better the car is. It appears to have been redone at some point. The paint currently is silver, but it appears it was white at some point. There is some white over-spray on some of the trim. I am going to start with the rear of the car. The rear bumper has lots of crazing, and it has several dents in it. The tail lights are in good shape. No apparent cracks. The chome has pin point pitting, but they clean up fairly nice. The trunk sealing lip is solid with no rust through. The trunk floor has some small holes, but it is pretty solid overall. The sides have had some metal added in. It appears it was added in during a rebuild, or it could be factory. I am unsure. The trunk lid does have some rust on the underside. It is bubbling. Not sure if there is rust through, but it appears there is some filler from the prior repaint. The lower inner quarters are rusted on both sides. The passenger frame rail is solid. The Driver's side frame rail is rusted out. Frame rails are rough on the underside, but the sides and tops appear solid. Rearend is present. Unknown condition overall. Tires are rollers at best, but they are holding air. The Inner fenders that the top mounts are welded into are in good shape and do not have rust. The panel between the inner fenders does have some rust through in the pressed in channel. The drain is present. The top boot has been cut out at some point. The top trim where the cover snaps onto is there and in good condition. The cover is present, but there is a seam that is coming apart. The top motor is present. Unknown condition. The top cylinders are present, but they are disconnected. The top can be raised by hand currently. The top frame is in good condition overall. The top itself is not. The frame does have some detioration mainly in the tack location on the rear most cross piece. The top latch is present, as are the catches and pins on the front edge of the top frame. The interior is all present with the exception of the carpet and the front kick panels. The door panels are decent, but they appear to have different fade rates between them. Front seat is present. Seat bottom needs redone. Seat tops have some seams coming apart and the fabric is dry. The rear seat frame is also present, and it has some seams coming apart as well. The material is there, so patterns could be made. The rear side panels are present and in fairly good condition. the convertible only rear seat pieces are there and restorable. The floors are gone in the lower sections. They are better at the high points, including the trans tunnel. There is some rust through under the rear seat, but not bad overall. The frame sections under the seats have rust through in spots in the underside, but the car feels solid overall. The doors appear to be in fairly good condition, and they may have been changed at some point in the car's life. The door handles are pretty cool looking, but they have some crazing. T he outer door handles don't appear to have much pitting, just the crazing. The chrome/stainless trim along the body line of the car is in good condition, but there are some dings along it. The inner door handles and window cranks appear to have some pitting. The dash is in really good condition. There is surface rust on the steel, but the panels the switches are in are in good condition. All switches and buttons are present. There are 2 missing screws in the heater face plate. The transmission buttons operate, as does the park pawl. All switches move, but I am unsure of condition. The dash pad is in really good shape. I was not able to find any cracks in it. Some of the chrome on the dash has pitting. The glove box opens hard. The inside glove box is good. There is an owner's manual with the car. It does have some water damage. The windshield has a scratch in it. This is a scratch, not a crack. It is likely savable. The window frame is in good condition. The vent window frames are good, and they have some tiny dot type pitting, but they shine up nice. The window moulding is there and in good condition. Wiper arms are in good condition. Blades need changed. Side window and quarter windows are all present and in good condition. Window mechanisms all work. Doors shut really nice. Cowl vent appears good. Hood appears to have some filler, but does not appear to be rusted out. The fenders have had some rust repair and filler. The rockers have had rust repair. Front frame is in better condition than the rear frame. The 361 engine does not currently turn, but it is complete. The PO had begun a swap to a 4 barrel intake, and the car was running prior to that. The new intake is on, and the carb that is now on the car is corroded. Wiring in the engine bay does not appear to be hacked. The engine is complete., I do have the air cleaner, though it is not shown in the pictures. All accessories are present. The radiator is present. Condition unknown. The car does have power steering and power brakes. The brakes are currently working and keep the car from being moved while it is pushed. There is some rust through in the inner fender and radiator support area. Grill is in good overall condition. Hood latch works, and the way it is hidden in the grill is pretty darn cool. Front bumper has some damage. Light bezels are good overall. They have a couple spots of pitting each.Trim on the car is all complete. In the trim around the trunk and the rear bumper, there are a couple locations where a PO has used screws to hold them on. The fuel tank looks to have been epoxy coated on the outside. Overall, my assessment of this car is that it is best used in conjunction with a rust free 2 door to build a nice convertible. I do know the location of such a car. I have tried by best to let you know EXACTLY the condition of this car. If you do have other questions about things I have not answered, please let me know. I will try and respond as quickly as I can. If the car sells, I would like a non-refundable 500$ deposit via paypal within 3 days. I feel that I have given you all enough information about the car that you can make an informed decision. I have WAY WAY WAY more pictures available than Ebay will let me post.... You can also come check out the car if you are local to me. It is POSSIBLE I may be able to deliver the car, as I have been buying cars throughout the midwest to part out. Please communicate with me regarding that possibility prior to bidding. If the car does not sell, I will be parting it out. In all likelihood, I have forgotten something. I will add it should I remember, or, please ask if you desire further information. |

Investors want answers about Marchionne’s final days
Mon, Jul 30 2018The mystery of Sergio Marchionne's surprise death last week continues, with investors now questioning the timeliness of disclosures by the company and family. Bloomberg reports that Italy's market regulator is making a routine check into how Fiat Chrysler handled communications regarding his illness. Fiat Chrysler's stock is down 12 percent in both Italy and on the New York Stock Exchange since the announcement of Marchionne's death. University Hospital Zurich last week issued a statement saying that Marchionne, who died July 25 while recovering from an unspecified should surgery, had been treated for more than a year for a serious illness that it didn't define. Marchionne's family told Reuters the companies hadn't been aware of his health conditions. The Italian business website Lettera 43 reported July 5, and FCA later confirmed, that Marchionne had undergone shoulder surgery in a Swiss hospital. But the company later denied a July 20 report by the website that Fiat Chairman John Elkann planned to meet with company leaders to divide Marchionne's responsibilities. Yet the FCA board indeed met on July 21 and chose Mike Manley, who had formerly overseen the Jeep and Ram brands, to succeed Marchionne as CEO. The company on July 25 published a brief statement acknowledging the former CEO's death. "Unfortunately, what we feared has come to pass. Sergio Marchionne, man and friend, is gone," Elkann said in the statement. Marchionne told no one outside his inner circle — reportedly not even Elkann — that he was seriously ill. His partner, Manuela Battezzato, who works in Fiat's press department, told Bloomberg that Marchionne's family didn't tell the company about his health condition. The famously hard-working CEO, who had quit smoking about a year ago, had also reportedly stopped responding to messages and calls from some advisors since the end of June. People close to him told Bloomberg that Marchionne died from complications following the shoulder surgery, including two cardiac arrests. Fiat Chrysler open to mergers, and PSA is looking for one
Fri, Mar 8 2019GENEVA — Fiat Chrysler (FCA) is open to pursuing alliances and merger opportunities if they make sense, but a sale of its luxury brand Maserati is not an option, Chief Executive Mike Manley said on Tuesday. "We have a strong independent future, but if there is a partnership, a relationship or a merger which strengthens that future, I will look at that," Manley told reporters at the Geneva Motor Show. Asked whether he would consider selling Maserati to China's Geely Automobile Holdings, as suggested by recent media reports, Manley said: "Maserati is one of our really beautiful brands and it has an incredibly bright future. ... No." FCA is often cited as a possible merger candidate. Bloomberg said this week that the Italian-American carmaker was attractive to France's PSA Group given its exposure to the U.S. market and its popular Jeep brand. The Detroit News' headline on the situation Friday read, "Fiat Chrysler CEO open to a deal as PSA circles" and stated that Manley's open-to-just-about-anything comments were aimed directly at PSA. Bloomberg said talks between the two were preliminary and said PSA chief Carlos Tavares has also contemplated mergers with General Motors or Jaguar Land Rover, which is losing money for Indian owner Tata. PSA has enjoyed a decade of turnaround and has $10.2 billion in net cash available. The maker of Peugeot, Citroen and DS, acquired Opel and Vauxhall in 2017 and made them almost instantly profitable. Manley, who took over after the death of Sergio Marchionne, said he currently had no news on possible deals. Manley also said the world's seventh-largest carmaker, which is lagging rivals in developing hybrid and electric vehicles, would take the least costly approach to comply with increasingly more stringent European emissions regulations. "There are three options. You can sell enough electrified vehicles to balance your fleet. Two: You can be part of a pooling scheme. Three is to pay the fines," he said. "I don't see a scenario when (carmakers) continue to subsidize technologies ... indefinitely." The carmaker had said last June it would invest 9 billion euros ($10.19 billion) over the next five years to introduce hybrid and electric cars across all regions to be fully compliant with emissions regulations. Asked about a 5-billion-euro investment plan for Italy FCA announced in November but then put under review, Manley said the plan had been confirmed as originally presented.
Junkyard 1983 Dodge Rampage has Franco-American roots
Mon, Jun 20 2016Lee Iacocca and the K-Cars get most of the credit for saving Chrysler after the company's 1979 bailout by the US government, but the success of the Simca-derived Omnirizon platform was a large, if overlooked, component of Chrysler's early-1980s resurgence. The Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon were sold in the United States for the 1978 through 1990 model years, and variants included the 1983-1987 Dodge Charger and the Rampage, this well-worn example of which I spotted in a Denver self-service wrecking yard last week. The early Omnirizons came with a Volkswagen-sourced 1.7-liter engine, but all of the Rampage pickups (and their near-identical Plymouth Scamp siblings) came from the factory with a 2.2-liter K-Car engine making 96 horses. This truck has a 4-speed manual transmission, which would have made it reasonably quick by Malaise Era standards. This one had plenty of body filler and rust, even before the crash that sent it on that final tow-truck ride to this place, so it wouldn't have been worth restoring. Still, we can hope that some of its parts will live on in other L-body trucks.
