SELLER REMARKS

Chrysler's 300-series cars were always an inviting blend of sporty and luxurious, and by 1968, the 300 had grown into a genuine contender for the top for the luxury/muscle food chain. This awesome convertible looks dynamite in triple black and is powered by Chrysler's finest horsepower factory, a 440 cubic inch V8. To truly stand out, this giant convertible makes it easy.

The styling evolved right along with the rest of the industry, and the unique styling on this 300 ragtop borrows a lot from the Imperial lineup. A little bit gothic in the front end with its hidden headlights, it continues the 300's tradition of impeccable taste and it was still an iron fist in a silk glove. The gorgeous black paint is in very good condition, making the car look big and imposing on the road and highlighting some straight sheetmetal underneath when it's parked. The pointed hood begins a theme that can be seen throughout the car, and while there are heavy chrome bumpers at both ends, the Chrysler stylists took it easy on the bright stuff for a change. Only 2161 of these full-sized convertibles were built in 1968, so it's doubly-important to get one with all its trim intact like this one. Hidden headlights were all the rage for luxury cars in 1968, so this car wears them, and the tastefully understated rear end shows off both the series and the engine with big emblems that were undoubtedly placed there for the benefit of the guy you just passed.

There's definitely a sporty attitude inside, where bucket seats flank a center console, almost as if there was some Mopar performance DNA running through the 300's veins. The handsome seats wear correct seat covers, there are nice black carpets on the floor, and the door panels are so nice that they have to be reproductions that were recently installed. Looking past the console, you'll also find luxury features like air-conditioning (converted to R134a and blows cold), burled walnut appliques on the center console, and a beautifully symmetrical dashboard that's pure 1960s slick. The back seat may very well be original and remains in excellent condition and has a kind of bucket seat look of its own thanks to the rear speaker for the AM/FM stereo system. A black convertible top fits well and offers a glass rear window and matching black boot, and the trunk is simply gigantic.

Chrysler's 440 cubic inch V8 really needs no introduction, and in the big 300, it remains an effortless cruising partner. With endless reserves of torque and a willingness to run hard, the 375 horsepower big block shrinks the size of the car for the guy behind the wheel, making this luxury ragtop feel downright agile. Some of that credit is undoubtedly due to Chrysler's innovative torsion bar front suspension, which was actually a better idea that worked rather well. The 3-speed TorqueFlight automatic is still a reliable link in the powertrain and it feeds the original rear end with highway-friendly gears inside. Aside from a chrome air cleaner and Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, the engine is stock, but then again, when something runs this well, most folks leave well enough alone. BFGoodrich Silvertown wide whitewall radials offer a classic look and modern handling and are topped with a set of very cool OEM hubcaps.

Fast, comfortable, and rare, this big convertible offers a more grown-up Mopar experience and you'll probably find that not many luxury cars of the era could quite match its performance. Call today!

Chrysler recalls small number of 2013-2014 cars and trucks over engine debris

Thu, 12 Dec 2013

Chrysler is recalling a small number cars over issues with their 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. The recall, which affects 522 examples of its 2013 Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 models, as well as 2014 Jeep Compass and Patriot CUVs has to do with potential debris in the balance shaft bearings.
The abrasive stuff can cause the oil pressure to drop, which could lead to the engine stalling or outright failure. This situation could at best leave drivers stranded and at worst lead to a crash.
Chrysler will begin notifying owners, who will need to report in to have the balance shaft module replaced. All repairs are naturally free of charge. Scroll down for the bulletin from NHTSA.

Chrysler and Fiat offering $1,000 rebates to VW owners as Marchionne gets tough

Mon, 10 Dec 2012

The throw-down between Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Volkswagen has heated up in earnest. According to Bloomberg, Fiat and Chrysler are now offering current Volkswagen owners in the US $1,000 rebates to trade in their ride. It's the latest in a series of shots Marchionne has taken at his German rival. As you may recall, the Fiat executive entered into a spat with Volkwagen board chairman Ferdinand Piëch and CEO Martin Winterkorn in October after the duo called for Marchionne's resignation from presidency of the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (AECA). At the time, the Volkswagen executives were quoted as saying Fiat would not survive the European economic downturn.
In response, Marchionne called the German executives "reprehensible," and accused Volkswagen of using a pricing strategy that has created created a "bloodbath" in the EU. Volkswagen has taken to steep discounting to carve out ever-larger slices of market share in Europe, but the company has a much smaller foothold in the US. Marchionne may be trying to hit Volkswagen where the manufacturer is weakest with the new Fiat new incentive program.
Late last week, the Fiat executive was voted to a second term as ACEA president.

Chrysler's completely redesigned 200 caught totally uncovered

Fri, 13 Dec 2013

Preparing for a big debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month, the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 was out for a late-night photo shoot fully undisguised, and our spy shooters were there to capture its all-new design completely uncovered. While there's no camouflage, the cover of darkness proved to be almost as effective, but we still get a good idea of what this former sore spot in the brand's lineup will look like after its clean-sheet redesign.
The first thing we notice is the stylish four-door-coupe roofline doing its best to impersonate something like the Audi A7, or maybe the Volkswagen CC. The front-end styling is a departure from recent Chrysler designs with narrow headlights and an equally short, chrome-trimmed grille. In profile, the bullet-nosed 200 is somewhat reminiscent of the Tesla Model S. This new design language should definitely help the 200 get noticed in a segment filled with hot sellers like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, as well as more stylish offerings like the Ford Fusion and Mazda6.
Our spies also caught up with the 200 testing in daylight and got some good shots of the interior. The instrument panel design looks similar to what is found in the Dodge Dart, including the oversized instrument gauges and possibly even the LED accent lighting. We would have to assume - and hope - this prototype is a test model due to its small touchscreen display, as Chrysler's 8.4-inch screen would look much better in its place. The center stack and console are clean with minimal buttons and knobs, but we do see a rotary gear selector, which may confirm reports from last year that suggested the 200 will use a nine-speed automatic transmission to help hit 38 miles per gallon on the highway.
