1950 Chrysler Windsor 4 door sedan with Spitfire 251 straight 6 cylinder engine.

This car has 69,000 original miles on it and is an absolutely perfect project car.

I am the third owner, the second owner being my cousin who purchased it around 10 years ago from the original owner. The car is currently not running and I purchased it from my cousin with the hopes of restoring it, however finances became an issue and I don't have the money to invest.

Haggerty Classic Car values the car at approximately $4600 dollars, but does not take into consideration the particulars of each car, so they are as follows:

BODY:
THE GOOD-The frame and body are near perfect, having been stored inside most of its life until my cousin got a hold of it and parked it outside. The door jams, fenders, roof, gas tank, trunk, body panels, doors, and all major parts are straight, have no dents and are relatively rust free aside from surface rust.

THE BAD- The paint has oxidized considerably and the front driver and passenger side floor pans are rusted through and need to be replaced. The window weather striping was gone and water got into the carpet and was left wet sitting on the floor boards for several years causing very acute rot to the floor boards. I priced the welding out at about $700 to repair pretty easily.

INTERIOR: The interior needs to be overhauled. The two bench seats are in relatively good shape considering. The door panels need to be replaced as does the headliner, carpet and A-Pillar coverings. The dash pad is in OK shape. Essentially I would just re do everything if you want to make it a daily driver. The sky is the limit on what you can spend doing interior work.

ENGINE: The car is not currently running, however I did some basic diagnostics when I got the car. The engine turned over without any issues when I put a new battery in it. There was spark going to 2 out of the 3 plugs I checked and it sounded like there was compression in the cylinders as I could hear it through the carb. As far as fuel, the tank is completely empty and it appears that it had been drained a while back, which is a good thing. There is obviously quite a bit of dirt and grease on the engine components, but I don't see any obvious leaks anywhere. I planned on simply getting it running and replacing fuel lines and other easy stuff instead of rebuilding the engine. The transmission is a "three on the tree" and switched through the gears without issue as far as I could tell.

CHROME: The chrome is in fair condition. There is rust on front bumper and rear bumper. There is oxidation and pitting in grill and other trim. However there is also several places where the chrome is in great shape, like around the windows and front and rear windshield. The chrome is all original and there is nothing missing from the car, which saves a ton of money and time for a restoration.

DASH PANEL AND GAUGES AND INTERIOR COMPONENTS: There is absolutely nothing missing from the original vehicle, even down to the original cigarette lighter. The knobs, radio, clock, heater levers are all there. When I hooked up the new battery, the clock started ticking and the gauges worked, which surprised me greatly. The steering wheel needs replacing or re done. The emblems are also in good condition. The door handles and window cranks are all there and in working order. BRAKES: I have not had a chance to look into it, but I would always assume the lines need to be checked for replacement and the wheel cylinders need re building, new shoes etc. TIRES AND RIMS: The tires need to be replaced with white walls

STEERING AND FRONT END COMPONENTS: These all appear in working order and I would not expect to need replacing for a daily driver.

GLASS: All original and intact. There is a small crack in the rear venting window but other than that, near perfect.

TITLE: We do not have the original title

The bottom line is this, as with all restoration projects there is a lot of work to be done.If you plan on restoring this to a showroom original quality you probably already know more about it than I do.

PAYMENT: Payment must be made within 72 hours of auction close. BUYER assumes all costs related to shipping. BUYER must arrange shipping and pick-up of vehicle.

Chrysler and Fiat offering $1,000 rebates to VW owners as Marchionne gets tough

Mon, 10 Dec 2012

The throw-down between Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Volkswagen has heated up in earnest. According to Bloomberg, Fiat and Chrysler are now offering current Volkswagen owners in the US $1,000 rebates to trade in their ride. It's the latest in a series of shots Marchionne has taken at his German rival. As you may recall, the Fiat executive entered into a spat with Volkwagen board chairman Ferdinand Piëch and CEO Martin Winterkorn in October after the duo called for Marchionne's resignation from presidency of the European Automotive Manufacturers Association (AECA). At the time, the Volkswagen executives were quoted as saying Fiat would not survive the European economic downturn.
In response, Marchionne called the German executives "reprehensible," and accused Volkswagen of using a pricing strategy that has created created a "bloodbath" in the EU. Volkswagen has taken to steep discounting to carve out ever-larger slices of market share in Europe, but the company has a much smaller foothold in the US. Marchionne may be trying to hit Volkswagen where the manufacturer is weakest with the new Fiat new incentive program.
Late last week, the Fiat executive was voted to a second term as ACEA president.

Pickup prices rising at 2x industry average

Tue, 11 Jun 2013

We've said it before, but bears repeating: Pickup trucks are the financial engines of America's automakers. Good thing, then, that the segment is in rude health - in fact, Automotive News is suggesting that pickup truck sales are arguably healthier than they were pre-recession, even though the segment's volume is still significantly down from where it was before the bottom fell out of the US economy. That's because per-unit profits on full-size trucks are skyrocketing, outpacing the industry's average price increases by more than double since 2005. According to data from Edmunds, the average transaction price of a full-size pickup is now $39,915 - a heady increase over the $31,059 average price in 2005 - a gain of over 8 percent after inflation is factored in.
Just how important are trucks to automakers' bottom lines? Automotive News quotes a Morgan Stanley analyst as saying the Ford F-Series is responsible for 90 percent of the company's 2012 profits, and General Motors isn't far behind, with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins chipping in about two-thirds of the automaker's earnings.
Automotive News points out that Detroit's automakers now have the money to invest in modernizing their full-size truck offerings, in part because they don't have the same overhead and legacy costs that pushed General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy. Certainly, the pickup segment has seen a lot of innovations as of late, including turbocharged V6s, coil-spring rear suspensions and active aero. Those improvements in important areas like fuel economy and ride comfort have given existing pickup buyers new reasons to upgrade. In addition, automakers are piling on the tech and luxury goodies, creating more and more high-content, high-profit models like the Ford F-150 King Ranch, Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn and Chevrolet Silverado High Country (shown).

Chrysler recalling 700k minivans and Dodge Journey for ignition switch woes

Tue, 01 Jul 2014

General Motors isn't the only automaker with ignition switch problems. Chrysler is fighting it too and is now announcing a recall of 695,957 examples worldwide of the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans from the 2008-2010 model years, plus the 2009-2010 Dodge Journey.
According to a statement from Chrysler, the models have a bad wireless ignition node detent ring in the ignition switch, making it possible for drivers to appear to have the key in the "Run" position but for the spring not to fully engage. It can then slip back to the "Accessory" position and shut the car off. If this happens, the vehicle loses power steering, brake boost and the airbags.
There is some disparity about the number of vehicles affected under this recall. In its statement, Chrysler claims that it covers 525,206 vehicles in the US, 102,892 in Canada, 25,591 in Mexico and 42,268 elsewhere. However, the recall announcement posted by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration lists an estimated 438,109 vehicles in the US. Chrysler spokesperson Nick Cappa told Autoblog via email that the reasoning for the different figures "will become clear at a later date."
