I've decided to sell my C4 to make room for a different model.

Brief Overview, High-Level Info:  The car comes with the original stock L98 350, which has the Bosch Tuned Port Injection system, and is mated to a THM automatic transmission.  Baseline published horsepower was 230 HP with 330 lb-ft of torque.  There were 39,729 corvettes built for the production year 1985.  My car is 1 of 3,579 built with factory paint code '81' (Bright Red) and interior code of '152' (medium gray leather) and number 35,437 of the overall production year.  This model year was the second year for the C4 and was a huge improvement over the 1984 model - there was no 1983 production car.  The original option codes label can be seen in one of my pictures.

Overall Vehicle Condition:   The car should considered a Condition #2 car or Excellent condition for it's age - (Condition #1 would be cars that are completely flawless cars and are the best of the best.  The car should present that same as it did when it was built, flawless).  Condition #2 essentially means the car could win local/regional events and shows, it may have flaws but would require a seasoned observer or judge to find.  The car should represent it's era well and be of the nicest condition possible.  The car still has the majority of the assembly markings on it (usually little dabs of white paint on various components) and also still has the original factory stickers in the engine bay and the Quality Control signature sticker on the driver's door.  The car currently has 26,540 miles on it - it gets driven sometimes so that may go up a little by the time the car is sold, but it would not be a significant amount.

Vehicle Condition Details:  There are no issues/problems/concerns with any of the body, interior, drivetrain or electronics on the car.  The acrylic Targa Roof panel is still in Excellent condition, as well as all of the weather-stripping.  The car presents original but has had the original Air Conditioning system upgraded to R134a in 2006 (of which, is still very nice and cold).  The car has also had the tires, battery, and heater control valve changed.  I don't know for certain if the brake pads have been changed since I haven't owned the car for it's entire history.  Paint appears to be in above-average condition; no webbing or hairline cracks in the paint, the paint shows great for the age of car.  Obviously the paint does show some slight fade because of it's age, but it's not due to neglect or abuse.  The car also shows signs of use on the front bumper cover and lower air dam.  The car has the original 3.5" air dam on it and as I mentioned, it shows sign of usage.  Interior is as expected; minimal to no signs of wear show in the leather seats, center console dash panels.  The instrument cluster works as originally designed and does not have any blacked out spots.  The door thresholds have some very minor wear from climbing in and out of the car.  As seen in a lot of older cars, the rear carpet shows some signs of age; some of the carpet pile fibers appear to have been vacuumed a little aggressive.

The car is kept in a climate controlled garage and is always kept clean.  The car is cleaned after each use, both inside and out, which includes engine bay, wheel wells, and under-carriage.

I'm not in a hurry to sell it but I'm open to all reasonable offers; I'll be taking the car to Bloomington Gold at the end of this month so if I don't sell it by then it will have some additional miles on it.

I have the car for sale through word-of-mouth and some other listing services, if it sells I'll cancel the auction.

Shipping:  Buyer is responsible for ALL shipping expense; if buyer doesn't want to deal with it, I can arrange the shipping for an upfront fee that covers all shipping expenses and my time.  If you arrange shipping you need to make sure your driver is aware that this car only has a front-end curb clearance of 3".

Thanks.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.

GM recalling 118K Colorado, Canyon pickups over missing hood latches

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

General Motors has announced a recall of 118,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks due to the possibility of secondary hood latches not being installed at the time of manufacture. The affected vehicles are from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 model years, all of which were built between November 9, 2009 and August 28, 2012.
According to the official National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, these trucks fail to "comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 113, 'Hood Latch System.' The hood may be missing the secondary hood latch." In other words, owners of these trucks could find their vehicles' hoods opening unexpectedly while driving.
The official recall campaign is expected to begin on January 17, 2013. Dealers will inspect the affected pickups and if a secondary hood latch is not present, one will be installed free of charge. Scroll down to read the official NHTSA report.
