For auction is a beautiful 1990 Corvette ZR-1. This is an early production (#454) from the first year of the C4 ZR-1.

The car has 24,650 original miles. Service records and a clean Carfax substantiate the mileage.

Included in the sale are the original owners manual, drivers manual, pizza box materials, dealer brochures from 1990, original unwrapped tire pressure gauge and much more. It's all here with this pristine example.

The only option for the ZR-1 in 1990 was dual tops. This sale includes the red paint to match top as well as the blue tinted glass top.

I will also include a duplicate window sticker from the National Corvette Museum and Chevrolet Factory Service Manuals.

It is my goal to represent the car fairly and honestly. It is a gorgeous, red on red, fast example of the C4 ZR-1. To my knowledge the car is mechanically original other than Flowmaster Cat Back Exhaust (reported to add 20-35 horsepower) and the 1-4 shift has been bypassed.

A previous owner upgraded the body molding and wheels to 1995 ZR-1. I have a clear title and a clean Carfax so I believe this was done as owner preference. The was originally sold in Palm Beach Florida (I have the salesman's business card) and has lived in California and North Carolina so it has never been exposed to salty roads.

I have recently installed Michelin Pilot Sports on the fronts, but at some point in the near future the car will need rear tires. The existing tires have tread but are beginning to show signs of dry rot.

The car does have a few of the typical ZR-1/C4 issues -- but they are very common, very minor and easily fixed. Occasionally the starter gets heat soaked and will not start when hot. There is a small vacuum leak, and the driver's power seat track is partially broken.

1990 was the first year the Corvette got a CD player, and this one in fact has a Factory Installed Bose AM/FM + CD + Cassette deck combo. The lucky buyer will receive period-correct Bon Jovi and Vanilla Ice cassette tapes.

The car runs and drives great. It is very strong and very fast. I would not hesitate to drive the car anywhere.

Car is located in Eastern North Carolina. I would prefer an in-person pickup to make sure the buyer is completely satisfied, but I am willing to assist with shipping at the buyer's expense.

Feel free to call or text with questions. Brad Sewell 910-620-0698.

Bid with Confidence and buy it now in order to enjoy Corvette Season!

MotorWeek Retro Review revisits 1984 Corvette

Thu, Oct 1 2015

MotorWeek's Retro Reviews are always a great glimpse into the cars of yesteryear. However, the newly uploaded look back at the 1984 Chevrolet Corvette is an absolute treasure trove for any auto history buff. This is a full episode of the show from the '80s, and it's dedicated to all of the details about the newest 'Vette to hit the market at the time. Beyond just the usual drive and an in-depth walk around, one of the major highlights here is a brief look at some on the concepts that eventually resulted in the fourth-generation Corvette of 1984. The C4's shape harkens back to sketches from 1978, and there even shots of early clay models that led the way for the design. MotorWeek also takes a tour through the Bowling Green, KY, factory for a detailed inspection of the entire production process. John Davis repeatedly calls the Corvette "the plastic fantastic" during the episode, and he can't find too much negative to say about being behind the wheel of the then-new coupe. See how it stands up to your own memories in the clip above.

GM recalls 8,500 Chevrolet Malibu models for rear suspension glitch

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

According to a letter from General Motors to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, flaws in the build process of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu have led to the recall of 8,519 cars. Units built between December 6, 2011 and January 15, 2013 may have been assembled with rear suspension cradles that had insufficient torque applied to certain bolts. That out-of-spec assembly could lead to issues ranging from slight noises to a loss of vehicle control.
The problem was first noticed in December of last year by a GM test fleet driver and eventually tracked back to the improperly torqued bolts on the suspension cradle assembled through July 2012 by a supplier located not too far from the Malibu's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Since an official NHTSA recall notice has not been issued yet, it isn't clear whether or not Detroit-built Malibus were the only ones affected (the 2013 Malibu is also built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas). Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting vehicles for proper torque specs, retightening if not within specs and, in some cases, perform a rear-wheel alignment.

2020 Ford Explorer vs 3-row crossover rivals: How they compare on paper

Thu, Jan 10 2019

The 2020 Ford Explorer has finally landed, and if history serves as an indicator, it should be bigger than sliced bread. And people sure love themselves some sliced bread. This new Explorer may look familiar on the outside, but beneath the skin is a radically new rear-drive platform related to the Ford Mustang (as opposed to a front-drive platform related to the Ford Taurus and a Volvo from the 1990s). Turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines now exclusively rest under its hood, which as you'll see below, both better anything its competitors offer. Ah, but if you're curious to know how the new 2020 Explorer compares to its various three-row family crossover rivals, take a look at the chart below where we stack it up against the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse, 2019 Honda Pilot, 2020 Hyundai Palisade, 2019 Subaru Ascent and 2019 Toyota Highlander. There are others of course (Mazda CX-9, Dodge Durango, GMC Acadia, VW Atlas), but we only had so much room on the chart, and these were the newest and/or most likely to be cross-shopped with the new Explorer. Engine specs and towing Although the Traverse's V6 just nips it on horsepower, the 2020 Explorer's base 2.3-liter "EcoBoost" turbocharged four-cylinder engine smokes it on torque. Therefore, "best-in-class" power seems like a fair claim from Ford. That there's also a 365-horsepower turbo V6 available, plus a hybrid and even-more powerful ST model on the way shows that Ford isn't kidding around under the hood. Curb weight also seems competitive for the segment. In terms of drivetrain, the Explorer is the only member of this particular group to come standard with rear-wheel drive (2.3-liter only). The Durango is the only other three-row, non-luxury crossover to do so. This is significant for two reasons: First, you could potentially do a power slide in an Explorer. Second, and more important, those in the Snowbelt will have to opt for all-wheel drive (it comes standard with the 3.0-liter). By contrast, a set of winter tires will probably do the job just fine if you want to save some money and gas by sticking with its rivals' standard front-wheel drive. Well, except for the Subaru Ascent — that's standard with AWD. In terms of towing, the Explorer takes the cake with as much as 5,300 pounds for the four-cylinder and 5,600 pounds for the V6. Everything else tops out at 5,000, though again, the Durango is capable of besting them all thanks to its Hemi V8 engine option.
