1973 Chevrolet Corvette L-48 Take a look at this beautiful 1973 Chevrolet Corvette brought to you by CARuso Classic Cars. The 350 engine was rebuilt about 8K ago. It was bored 0.030-inch
over. TRW pistons and rings were used. Crane cam, lifters and timing set were
used (0.450-inch lift and duration cam). All new Clevite bearings were used. The
connecting rods were replaced with stock shot peened rods. The crankshaft is
original and the block is a 2 bolt main bearing design. The distributor is an
original design with tack drive. Current Owner has installed electronic components in it.
The intake and carburetor are Edelbrock. The carburetor is a 650 CFM. The heads
are a GM 194 and were rebuilt when the engine was. The engine numbers are
matching for the car and as far as current owner knows it is the original block. The transmission is a Turbo 400 Automatic and it was replaced with a rebuilt unit when the engine was overhauled. This car has had the following work completed during the rebuild: Rear trailing arms , new brake lines, new fuel lines and sending unit, new brake calipers, master cylinder, brake booster and brakes. The interior was dyed where it could be and replaced where needed. The seats are Corbeau Racing seats and 3-point harnesses (The current owner has the original seats but they need to be rebuilt no belts). The battery cover lid is broken and needs replacement as well. The odometer stopped working recently. The speedometer and tachometer are operational. The dash pad is in fair condition. It has some tears where the speakers are. The body was stripped down to the bare fiberglass before painting. The front clip of the car was replaced and has a solid nose cone vice the soft original style. This modification also ended up removing some of the metal supports located in the front end. (The current owner has taken photos to try and capture what was done). The T-Tops leak as most do. There is some paint wear around the headlights. (The stops need some repair) the vacuum system is intact and the lights are operational. There is also a paint chip on the top of the driver’s door. The windows are operational as are the locks. The windshield wipers work, but the linkages require new bushings. The blades are not original to the 1973 and the wiper doors aren’t there. The washer also doesn’t work. Overall, this is a very solid and great looking Corvette with reasonable reserve.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel First Drive [w/video]
Tue, Oct 6 2015The first thing you notice inside the diesel Chevy Colorado is that it's quiet. Almost too quiet. A lot has been done to quell noise and vibration with this new powertrain, and it shows – or rather, doesn't. There's some characteristic diesel clatter at idle, but even then it's distant and practically disappears as you start moving down the road. At full throttle, when the engine is at its noisiest, the sound isn't particularly diesel-like, just a pleasant intake breath. The accompanying smoothness is almost eerie. When we ask where all the noise went, Chevy's engineers, marketing guys, and PR reps all explain that this refinement is what Americans want. We're still not sure. This is a truck, after all, and the diesel pickup customer is different from the guy buying a diesel Cruze for his highway commute. Chevy contends that they're also not the same as the buyer of a Silverado HD. Although this 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder has been in service elsewhere around the globe, its first US application is in the Colorado and its GMC Canyon twin. The engine puts out 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and it does so unobtrusively as a result of a lot of modifications for our market. To keep normal diesel sensations out of the cabin, the intake and oil pan both get acoustic treatments. A new, thicker material is used for firewall sound deadening. Redesigned balance shafts have tighter tolerances to increase smoothness. The diesel powertrain is smoother than the Colorado's gasoline V6. One of the more interesting and certainly unexpected vibration-reduction changes is a special torque converter from German supplier LuK equipped with a centrifugal pendulum absorber. This pendulum spreads from the center of the torque converter as engine speed increases and is tuned to absorb the four-cylinder's second-order vibrations, not just those in a narrow frequency band. It does an admirable job, especially considering the engine's biggish, 0.7-liter cylinders, which lead to bigger vibrations. The result is a powertrain that's smoother than GM's (not particularly smooth) corporate V6, which is available in the standard Colorado. It's quieter than a Cruze diesel and even out-softens some gas direct-injection engines on the market. Paradoxically, it may be the most refined of all of the Colorados. No vibration comes through the steering wheel, pedals, floorboards, or even the rearview mirror. But you can tell it's a diesel when you hit the throttle.
'84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia
Fri, Jan 16 2015These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models. Chevrolet SS previewed by Holden VF Commodore SS V show car
Thu, 14 Feb 2013It won't be long before we see the official, production-ready Chevrolet SS sedan (hint: it will be revealed this weekend). And to tide us over until all of the official details are released about the US-spec version, we have this: the Holden VF Commodore SS V show car, a performance-oriented brother to the Calais V that debuted earlier in the week.
What we really want to know about the SS V is what lies underhood, but General Motors' Australian arm is keeping that under wraps until the Chevy model breaks cover this weekend. Nevertheless, it's obvious that the SS V will be a serious performer, with all sorts of aggressive cues driving that home on the car's exterior. Take a look at those 20-inch billet aluminum wheels that hide big Brembo brake calipers up front, the sculpted hood and front fascia, the wide air intakes with LED running lights and the quad exhaust pipes out back. It's like the Pontiac G8 GXP never even left us.
Inside, there's a sporty-looking interior with aluminum accents that mix in with black leather and suede surfaces, all tied together in the middle with an eight-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system. It looks great, and again, while we don't know anything regarding powertrain details, it makes us oh-so happy to see a manual shifter smack dab in the middle of the center console.
