64 Corvette Coupe (Triple Crown Winner)
Out of my private collection, is this one of a kind mid year Corvette, in the stunning color combination of Silver/Red!! A recent Triple Crown Winner (2007)! The car was originally purchased at Hicks Chevrolet in Washington D.C. by a female school teacher who kept it until 1997 when it was sold to a local resident in the D.C. area. In 2005, the second owner sent it to Rob English, at Restoration Connections in New Jersey, to undergo a 3 year 'frame off' restoration with the purpose of winning the coveted Triple Crown awards. The restoration was completed just in time to be judged at Bloomington Gold in 2008. I happened to be at that event and noticed this car. I tried to purchase it. However, the owner wanted to finish the Triple Crown quest first. And he wanted $110,000.00 for it! I got his number and decided to call him a couple years later after the economic downturn to see if he would sell it. He informed that we won the Triple Crown, and had only put 8 miles on the car since the restoration was complete. He decided he would sell it since he could not win any more awards. He had over 100k in the car, but sold it to me for current market value at the time in 2010. During the purchase negotiations, I learned that the car was all original including the drivetrain, and had just under 25,000 documented original miles. There is extensive paperwork that comes with the car, including the original sales contract with financing information, original title, numerous documents form the original owner showing incremental miles accumulation over the years when service work was done and when the car was registered over the years. I have restoration receipts and many photos of the restoration process. After enjoying the car for a year or so, I contemplated taking it to Newman Car Creations in California to have a chassis built with modern technology in the frame, suspension, and drivetrain. You may wonder why I would consider doing that to an original Triple Crown winning Corvette! Well it's pretty simple. The car was an original powerglide automatic. I like automatic cars because I hate shifting gears! However, I know they are not good for resale. And the powerglide is just not fun to drive! Combine that with the fact that it's a 64 (the least desired of the mid-years) I felt like it was justified to add some modern technology, as it would be a blast to drive and likely make it more desirable if I decided to sell it later. I have seen many cars recently that have modern technology improvements sell for much more than originals. After extensive consideration, I compromised and made some modifications to it by keeping the original 300 hp drivetrain and chassis. I added MSD bolt on throttle body fuel injection, with matching MSD electronic ignition that mates with it. I had to change the original cast iron intake to a 64 340 hp aluminum intake that had been completely restored. The MSD bolts right on as it's a Holley flange. And the original style chrome breather fits right on and conceals the fuel injection. I also added a 700 R4 overdrive transmission from Bowtie Overdrives in California. They specialize in overdrive conversions for classic cars. The original shifter was kept so the car appears factory. I added an electric fan that bolts on to the original aluminum radiator to keep the car cool when stopped or slow speeds. Sold by the company that makes the radiators, it fits within the shroud and is not noticeable. Since an electric pump is needed to supply the fuel for the injection system, I had a custom built stainless fuel tank installed with baffles and a built in submerged electric pump. The most trouble free system you can have. Comparable to modern cars. I also used stainless steel fuel lines. To make the ride better, I bought a new set of Michelin Diamondback redline tires and installed them on a new set of bolt on aluminum "knock of style" wheels from Corvette America. the latest design. All of the work was done by a local GM mechanic with over 30 years experience. The end result of the modifications I made, is a stunning silver/red coupe that looks completely original. However, it drives nothing like an original with the fuel injection and overdrive! You can reach in, hit the key and the car starts instantly. Just like a new one of today. No pumping the gas pedal 20 times trying to get it to fire and then waiting 10 minutes for it to warm up. This is a factory air car and the original system works great! It has power windows, original power brakes, and power steering as well. You can literally drive this car anywhere trouble free! The fuel injection system and ignition is computer controlled with a handheld monitor that plugs into the module located under the fender by the battery where it can't be noticed. The idle can be set at the desired rpm's. The car will maintain that idle speed when it's placed in gear and when the a/c is turned on! And the electric fan can be set to turn on and off at the desired temps. With the original carb it use to drop as much as 400 rpm's when the air was turned on and you put it in drive. You can also adjust the timing and timing advance to your desired setting. You can actually make the adjustments while driving down the road to get it perfectly tuned! And the fuel injection is incredible!! Instant response and very smooth. Less fumes and cleaner burning. No dying when you stop at a stop sign or coughing when you enter an intersection! All of the modifications I made were bolt on parts and can be returned to original at any time. All of the original parts will go with the car. I have the original wheels, new set of whitewall bias ply tires, with beautifully restored original wheels covers I just spent $700.00 on. Buyer will get choice of the originals wheels and covers, or the bolt on's pictured. Both can be bought for a negotiated price. I assume the buyer would want the originals. This car is perfect for the person that wants a stunning mid year Corvette that can actually be driven and enjoyed with modern technology and the look of an original classic! Without fear of a breakdown!! I have a ton of money in this car and will not sell it unless I get a reasonable price for it. Please call Bill at 573-724-0313 with any questions you may have. I reserve the right to end the auction early as it's for sale locally and request a 1,000.00 deposit within 48 hours of auction end to secure the purchase. Thanks for your interest. |

Kid Rock's Chevy Silverado is a working-class hero [w/video]
Thu, Nov 5 2015Rock stars are known for their swagger, and Kid Rock brings a mountain of that confidence to his design for this chrome-festooned 2016 Silverado 3500HD at the SEMA show. Inspired by his song Born Free and a visit to the pickup factory in Flint, MI, the styling is meant to celebrate the folks that build these trucks everyday. The Silverado sparkles like a beacon under the lights at the SEMA Show thanks to its black metallic-flecked paint and acres of chrome. The shiny stuff covers the custom grille, exhaust stacks, 22-inch wheels, and side steps. In a patriotic nod, silver Stars and Stripes run down the side to offer a little contrast to the dark body. Further emphasizing the pickup's huge size, a trailer carries a pair of Gibbs Sports Quadskis that are decorated to match the truck. Kid Rock takes inspiration from – get this – acid-wash jeans for the interior by combining Sky Cool Gray leather seats with metallic-looking inserts. Appropriate for a musician, there's also a custom Kicker stereo in there, and Made in Detroit logos adorn the door sills and glovebox. The truck was introduced today at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where it joined other personalized Chevy truck concepts designed to showcase the depth and breadth of the brand's pickup truck lineup. Michigan-born Kid Rock visited the Silverado HD assembly plant in Flint, Mich., to meet with the members of UAW Local 598, who built the truck, before driving it to Chevrolet's design studio to share his ideas for its customization. "The Flint plant – and everyone on the line – is the backbone of America," said Kid Rock. "I wanted the design for the truck to be bold, but with features and elements that wouldn't be out of reach for working-class guys." As a result, his Silverado features several enhancements, including a custom chrome grille with the Born Free logo and an enlarged Chevy Bowtie emblem, chrome exhaust stacks and patriotic graphics that flow across the body sides. A unique execution of the patriotic motif was an idea he expressed at the start of the project.
The Corvette Museum sinkhole has been filled
Wed, Feb 11 2015After swallowing eight of the most prized pieces of the collection from the National Corvette Museum, the massive sinkhole from a year ago is rapidly becoming nothing but a bad memory. Based on the museum's weekly construction update, you can barely see the remnants of the 25-foot deep hole once in the floor. The Corvette Museum's Skydome was not always going to look like this. The original hope was to keep the sinkhole there as a tourist attraction. That plan eventually fell through, though, and instead it was decided five of the less-damaged Corvettes would remain unrestored. Progress has been moving fast to get the repairs done. Even a month ago, the hole was still very visible, and the construction company used remote-controlled Bobcat loaders to fill it in. Now, the museum has launched a contest to guess how many tons of stone it took to fill in the massive crater. The winner gets a print of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil being lifted out. GM recalling 250,000 SUVs over door electronics
Mon, 20 Aug 2012After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.
Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.
