1964 Corvair Rampside Pickup Powerglide on 2040-cars
Great Cacapon, West Virginia, United States

1964 Corvair Rampside pickup. Final year they built this truck, and it's very
rare. Chevy only built 851 of them in
1964. This is not a show truck; it's a
daily driver work truck. But it starts,
runs, shifts, and stops just like it should.
Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. Everything works except for the cigarette
lighter. I mean wipers, horn, turn
signals, brake lights, etc. Steers nice
and tight, brakes even and safely, just passed inspection. Heater works, but for some reason the fan
only is off or high. I don't know if the
fan motor is bad, or the switch. But it
gets plenty warm from just the engine fan.
The truck is not perfect. There's some rust under the corner of the driver's side of the cab, and a previous owner riveted in metal. If I were keeping it I'd probably cut and weld that. It also had a spotlight installed on the driver's side, and big side mirrors that I removed, so there's holes that I covered with black duct tape.
It easily runs 70+ on the interstate, and it's stable and tracks true. Brand new tires. Chevy rally wheels. I expected these trucks to be really slow, but this runs 0-60 about as fast as the Corvair sedan with PG.
The odometer is showing 79K miles, but I don't know if that's original or not. The motor is an original truck block (oil filler out the back access door), but it's not original to this truck. I don't know when it was swapped; it was that way when I bought it. It starts and runs without burning oil or leaking.
Extras: I've got new Clarks armrests for it, and windshield weatherstrip. What's in there now was leaking when it rained, so I ordered new ones and never installed them, because some silicone caulk seemed to solve the problem. I've also got the windshield washer nozzle, and a few other odds and ends. The truck has been worked on by Corvair Ranch in Gettysburg, PA (rebuilt carbs, brakes, starter ring on the torque converter, converted back to generator from alternator).
I've owned the truck for about three years. I'm selling it because I recently bought a 1960 Corvair 700 Club Coupe that's taking all my attention, so the Rampside hasn't been driven much lately. Would make a great restoration project, or just a nice looking daily driver as is. People always stop me to ask about this truck, because it's so unusual.
I've also got it for sale locally, so I may end the auction early if it sells here. For shipping purposes, the closest pick-up spot would be Berkeley Springs, WV.

GM recalling 15k midsize pickups over leaky brakes
Mon, Jun 8 2015General Motors has announced a recall in coordination with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration related to the brakes on the 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. In the 14,838 units in the United States estimated to be affected, the front brake calipers may be leaking fluid. Needless to say, that could make them less effective, which could hinder the vehicle's ability to stop in time to avoid a collision. The affected units were all manufactured between January 6 and December 24, 2014. The fix seems simple and straightforward enough, with dealers being instructed to inspect the front brake calipers, and replace them if necessary. See below for all the details from NHTSA. RECALL Subject : Brake Fluid Leak Report Receipt Date: MAY 12, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V278000 Component(s): SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Potential Number of Units Affected: 14,838 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured January 6, 2014, to December 24, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience the front brake calipers leaking brake fluid. This is due to air pockets, an imperfection in the metal caliper body. CONSEQUENCE: If the vehicle experiences a brake fluid leak it can increase the stopping distance, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the front-brake calipers if necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 10, 2015. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14888. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. Some 2012-13 Chevy Volts may not have enough battery coolant
Mon, Jun 23 2014The 2012 and 2013 model year Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in vehicle may have a battery glitch caused by low coolant levels. No recall has been issued and General Motors is taking care of the issue at no cost to drivers. Some of the affected Volts may have lower-than-advisable coolant levels because of some pesky air pockets in the car's cooling circuit. When the coolant levels get too low, the charging system for the battery powering the car's onboard generator (i.e. the Rechargeable Energy Storage System, or the RESS) may be shut down, turning one's Volt into a run-of-the-mill gas-powered car, and a pricey one at that. The Car Connection says GM is advising owners of the '12 and '13 Volts to contact their local Chevy dealer for a free fix. GM representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from AutoblogGreen for more details. We believe this is a separate issue than the one that brought 8,000 Volts back to the dealers for a battery coolant fix, what GM called a "voluntary customer satisfaction effort," a few years ago. General Motors sold 23,094 Chevy Volts last year after selling 23,461 Volts in 2012, so that fix-it list may get fairly lengthy. Check out a GM-Volt.com user thread related to this issue here. *UPDATE: Chevrolet spokesman Randy Fox confirmed in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen that the company issued a service bulletin to dealers that they may need to top off coolant levels on certain Volts because of the issue, and that the vehicle will "return to normal charging operation" once that's done.
GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups
Mon, 14 Oct 2013General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.
