Up for auction is my 72 Chevelle convertible. I purchased this car from the original owner in 1987. This car has never been in an accident or fender bender since I have owned it and the original owner assured me of the same. This flame orange (please note, not red) car came out of the GM factory as an air conditioned Malibu convertible with a 350 engine. Over the years with various replacement parts, including cowl induction hood, heavy duty front and rear sway bars and SS steering wheel it became a Chevelle SS.
Some highlights follow:
1. New 502 HO GM crate engine #12568778 with just over 2000 miles on it.
2. New power convertible top with rear glass window, new pads and well liner and top boot.
3. New seat upholstery, with all new padding replaced on the front and rear bench seats.
4. New ceramic coated headers, new Delco 78 series battery, and new 750 cfm Edelbrock carb with electric choke.
5. Turbo 400 tranny rebuilt with quick shift kit.
6. 12 bolt posi rear end.
7. BFG Radial TA tires with just over 4000 miles use.
8. Flowmaster mufflers with 3" mid pipes and 2.5" tailpipes with stainless tips.
9. 4 core radiator with never an overheating problem in Reno's hot summers. Pretty much runs at 180 degrees.
10. Original steering box replaced with close ratio model, KYB gas adjust shocks at the corners.
11. Front disc brakes, rear drum.
12. Most important - a straight rust free body.
I had the car repainted about 10 years ago with the original flame orange, paint code 65, with a clear coat. The finish still looks nice, when polished color really pops, but not show quality and a few chips in the paint. The chrome is original. If I had to rate the exterior paint and chrome maybe a 7-8 out of a possible 10. This car definitely gets praise and thumbs up when driven on the street. It passed the Nevada smog test. Before retiring, I owned a auto parts store so I never held back when repairing or replacing parts. I suspect that over the years every part has been replaced at least once.
With some hesitation I am selling this car, that I must say has never run better in the 27 years i have owned it. My adult children are not interested in it and when I gave my granddaughter a ride she held her hands over her ears and repeated over and over "LOUD CAR".

GM Ultium tech can scavenge heat from everywhere, even you

Mon, Apr 25 2022

GM likes to give us tidbits about its Ultium platform from time to time, and today it’s telling us about the platformÂ’s ability to capture waste heat from the propulsion system. In addition to capturing from the propulsion system, it can also capture humidity from both inside and outside the vehicle and even from passengersÂ’ body heat. Yes, you, your family and/or your friends are a usable heat source as far as GM EVs are concerned. It then deploys the heat in an advantageous way. If at this point, youÂ’re screaming, "Heat pump!" youÂ’d be right. WeÂ’re talking about an elaborate heat pump system that GM is using for its Ultium-based vehicles. Every Ultium-based GM vehicle gets this system that is covered by 11 patents and four publications. The waste heat it collects is used in a number of ways, but its primary use is to heat the cabin quickly and efficiently. GM claims it can heat the cabin of its Ultium-based vehicles quicker than vehicles with traditional internal combustion engines. Plus, when put to use, GM claims that using the heat pump provides its EVs with up to 10% more range than theyÂ’d have without. Beyond heating the cabin, the heat pump is capable of putting waste heat to use by preheating the battery prior to charging so that you can charge quicker. The system can even cool the propulsion system in preparation for Watts to Freedom (WTF) launch control starts. GM says this was vital in helping the Hummer EV achieve its bonkers 0-60 mph time of about 3 seconds. “Having a ground-up EV architecture gives us the freedom to build in standard features like UltiumÂ’s energy recovery capabilities,” said Doug Parks, GM executive VP of global product development, purchasing and supply chain. “This helps us squeeze more efficiency, performance and overall customer benefit out of our EVs.” GM says itÂ’s been developing heat pump technology since the EV1 and its heat pump. This is the modern evolution of that technology, and GM says itÂ’s going to be implemented in every Ultium-based vehicle as a standard feature. Canada opens probe into 250,000 GM pickups, SUVs over brake performance

Sun, Jun 23 2019

Transport Canada, the auto safety regulator, has opened a probe into braking issues in nearly 250,000 General Motors full-size pickups and SUVs after U.S. officials launched a similar probe last year, the agency said on its website. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in November into 2.73 million U.S. 2014-2016 model year SUVs and pickups after receiving 487 reports of hard brake pedal effort accompanied by extended stopping distance that were attributed to deterioration of the engine-driven brake assist vacuum pump. Transport Canada's probe covers 249,700 2015 through 2017 model year vehicles including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon as well as 2014-2017 Chevrolet Silverado LD and GMC Sierra LD vehicles. The U.S. agency said it had reports of nine incidents of vehicles incurring damage as a result of colliding with another vehicle or fixed object at low speeds and reports of two injuries. NHTSA said if the pump fails to operate, the amount of brake power assist can be significantly reduced, extending vehicle stopping distance. The NHTSA sent GM an information request in a Feb. 7 letter. A GM spokesman said he had no update on the investigation. Reporting by David Shepardson; editing by Jonathan Oatis

2014 Chevy Silverado High Country spied wearing trappings of new luxury trim

Wed, 03 Apr 2013

Spy photographers have spotted the new Chevrolet Silverado High Country and GMC Sierra Denali out on public streets for a little testing. From the looks of things, the Silverado will receive a much-differentiated front fascia along with special badges and those honking 20-inch chrome wheels. Expect to find a more posh interior as well. Likewise, the Sierra Denali will wear a tweaked nose with the familiar Denali bling. The one of the GMC trucks spotted here rolls on 21-inch gunmetal wheels instead of the 20-inch chrome pieces of the High Country.
Word has it both trucks will go on sale after the Texas State Fair this summer. While General Motors hasn't said for certain what we can expect to find under the hood, we'd be surprised to see anything outside of the range of engines found in the standard Silverado and Sierra models. That means buyers should be able to get their hands on the efficient, 23-miles per gallon 5.3-liter V8.
