Original Numbers Matching Engine
Protect-O-Plate
Very straight body and excellent interior
Original four-speed floor-shift car
Runs and drives great
For the 1971 model year, Chevrolet continued with its popular Mid-sized Chevelle, now with a mildly refreshed front
end that featured single headlights and a new grille. Much as before, a myriad of engine options and trim packages
was available that ranged from the mild-mannered six-cylinder sedan to the fire-breathing LS6 454 Big Block Super
Sport convertible. No fewer than six V8 engine options were offered to suit any number of customer needs. The base
V8 was the low compression 307, next came a pair of 350 cubic inch engines with either a 2 or 4 bbl carburetor, the
400 big block and two versions of the 454 big block. With coupe, convertible, sedan, pickup and station wagon
bodies available, the options for building the Chevelle of your dreams were seemingly limitless.
RB Collection is pleased to offer this numbers-matching 1971 Chevelle Malibu Sports Coupe with the L65 2-bbl V8 and
a four-speed manual transmission with floor shift. This is a rare and desirable car in that it still retains its
original matching numbers engine and hasn’t been converted to an SS clone or otherwise modified. It has an
attractive and clean appearance with correct dog-dish hubcaps and minimal exterior trim. The interior has been
restored to correct specs, executed to a very high standard, with an excellent black perforated headliner, correct
black vinyl trim on the seats and correct nylon-loop carpeting. The body is clean, straight and very
well-restored. Panel gaps are consistent and the doors shut beautifully with a satisfying solid feel. Structurally
sound, it is a rust free car with a clean and straight undercarriage. The chrome trim is excellent, with no pits,
scratches or dents in the bumpers. Detailing on the engine is to a high standard with correct clamps, fittings and
finishes. There is no evidence of leaks, drips or smoke and the underbody is very clean and well detailed.
On the road this Malibu delivers excellent performance from the 350 along with a proper muscle car soundtrack
thanks to the mild exhaust system. The engine idles incredibly smoothly and always starts with just a quick turn of
the key. The restoration and good quality cosmetics make it a great choice for cruising or casual show. The sale
includes the original jack and spare wheel, warranty book with Protect-O-Plate, and clear Pennsylvania title,
showing it has been a PA car since new.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

Chevy Cruze CNG available from Crazy Diamond Performance

Thu, Aug 7 2014

Anyone out there who can somehow find a second way to link Pink Floyd to natural gas vehicles gets a prize. Because so far, we have one Michigan-based company called Crazy Diamond Performance (Shine On You Crazy Diamond being a longtime Floyd fave) that's setting out to convert Chevrolet Cruze vehicles to run on compressed natural gas (CNG). All in the name of cheaper fuel and domestic security, of course. Crazy Diamond says it can offer a converted CNG-powered Chevy Cruze for a price as low as $26,000. That four-cylinder version has 130 horsepower and an 8.5-gasoline-gallon-equivalent capacity that provides a full-tank range of as many as 250 miles. Pony up another $2,000 or so and the peppier, turbocharged CNG Cruze can be yours. The company says it will provide a 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and is trying to get EPA certification for its conversions. The selling points are cheaper fuel (CNG is about half the cost of regular gasoline in some parts of the country) and homeland security (CNG reduces dependence on foreign oil). The only production passenger vehicle CNG in the US is the Honda Civic CNG, which sells in very limited numbers. Check out Crazy Diamond's flyer here. GM might lose 90-year U.S. sales crown over chip shortage

Sat, Oct 2 2021

Automotive News editor Nick Bunkley tweeted on October 1 that according to AutoNews data, General Motors "has been the largest seller of vehicles in the U.S. every year since passing Ford in 1931." With automakers having turned in light car and truck sales data for the first three quarters of 2021, GM's 90-year-run might not reach 91. According to AN figures, Toyota was 80,401 vehicles ahead when the October workday started. Worse, GM is so far behind its historic pace that it might only sell enough light vehicles in the U.S. to match its numbers from 1958.  Meanwhile, the New York Times put a few more salient numbers to the pain GM and Toyota are enduring alongside the the rest of the industry. GM sold 33% fewer cars in Q3 2021 than it did in Q3 2019 during the dark days of the pandemic, 446,997 units this year as opposed to 665,192 last year. GM's Q3 2020 was only down 13% on Q3 2019. Over at Toyota, the bottom line showed a 1% gain in Q3 2021 compared to 2020, with 566,005 units moved off dealer lots. The finer numbers show two steps forward and one step back, though; Toyota's September sales were down 22% compared to last year.  GM remains optimistic about what's ahead, GM's president of North American operations telling the NYT, "We look forward to a more stable operating environment through the fall." We'd like to see that happen, but we don't know how it happens. The chip shortage said to have been the inciting incident for the current woes isn't over, and not only can no one agree when it will be over, the automakers, chip producers, and U.S. government still can't get on the same page about who needs what and when. Looking away from that for a second shows articles about "No End In Sight" for supply chain disruptions in early September, before China had to start working through power supply constraints, global supply chain workers started warning of a "system collapse," and roughly 500,000 containers sat waiting to be unloaded at Southern California ports — a record number seemingly broken every week. And back to chips, we're told just a few days ago the chip shortage is "worse than we thought."   For now, the NYT wrote that GM dealer inventory is down 40% from June to roughly 129,000 vehicles, and down 84% from the days when dealers would cumulatively keep about 800,000 light vehicles in stock. However, GM just announced it would have almost all of its U.S. facilities back online next week, although some would run at partial capacity.
