2022 Chevy Silverado HD gains Multi-Flex tailgate as an option
Mon, May 17 2021GM is spreading the Multi-Pro Tailgate love around its truck lineup, and the Silverado HD is the latest pickup to gain the option. Just like the 2021 Silverado 1500, Chevy uses the “Multi-Flex” name for it in the HD, eschewing GMCÂ’s “Multi-Pro” branding for the bowtie vehicles. YouÂ’ll be able to option the tailgate on 2022 model year Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD models. ItÂ’ll be available optionally in every trim, so thereÂ’s no need to grab a more expensive trim to gain access to the trick tailgate — youÂ’re also not required to take it in higher trims. Functionality is the same as the standard Silverado and Sierra. The primary gate opens and closes like any other tailgate out there. ThereÂ’s a primary gate load stopper that allows you to put the gate down and still keep things from flying out the back (it can also be arranged such that the load stopper is at a higher height by using the inner gateÂ’s stopper). The inner gate folds down perpendicular to the ground to allow closer access to the bed. A full-width step is available if you fold both “gates” down and pop out the inner panel. And lastly, the inner gate can be lowered to use it as a small work space. You can watch the short video above to get a quick run through of all the positions, or scroll through the gallery at the top of this post. Besides the tailgate, Chevy says the 2022 Silverado HD is gaining a new Greenstone Metallic exterior paint color. Other changes for 2022 were not detailed at this time, but Chevy says the trucks with this tailgate should be available sometime this summer. Related video:
2018 Chevy Sonic caught testing in The Motor City
Sun, Feb 28 2016Despite its role as the entry point into Chevrolet's lineup of sedans in America, the Sonic can be a fun little urban runabout in the same vein as the Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit. It's also impressively fuel efficient. Suffice it to say, then, that the Sonic is way better than the Aveo it replaces. And, as you can see from these spy shots, the next version of the Sonic is currently being tested in the wintry climes of Detroit, Michigan. The 2018 Chevy Sonic will be based on an updated Gamma platform that will be shared with the all-electric Chevy Bolt. In place of that's car electric motor and massive battery pack will be either a naturally aspirated four-cylinder or small turbocharged engine. Our spy shooters suggest a three-cylinder engine is also a possibility. While it's clear from these spy photos that the development of the next Sonic is well underway, nobody is quite sure where it will be built. Last October, we reported that 500 workers at GM's production facility in Orion Township were being laid off due in part to slow sales of the Sonic – you can thank the growing popularity of crossovers for that – and that plant is now being retooled for production of the Bolt. It's entirely possible that GM has decided to move production of the Chevy Sonic to Mexico, which would allow it to build a more profitable vehicle at Orion Township alongside the Bolt. GM to idle Indiana truck plant for two weeks over chip shortage
Fri, Mar 25 2022WASHINGTON —General Motors said Friday it will idle for two weeks in April an assembly plant in Indiana that builds pickup trucks, over ongoing semiconductor chip shortages. The Detroit automaker said it will halt production at its Fort Wayne assembly plant, which builds the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, for two weeks starting April 4. "There is still uncertainty and unpredictability in the semiconductor supply base, and we are actively working with our suppliers to mitigate potential issues moving forward," GM said Friday. The automaker said this is its first semiconductor-related full-size truck production downtime since August. GM noted that overall it has "seen better consistency in semiconductor supply through the first quarter compared to last year as a whole. This has translated into improvement in our production and deliveries during the first three months of the year." GM Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra met with some lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week, including Republican Senator Todd Young of Indiana. GM is backing a bill in Congress to provide $52 billion in government subsidies to boost U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. GM said that legislation could help "alleviate the ongoing shortage that continues to impact U.S. automotive manufacturing."
