Offered here for sale has got to be the most documented first generation convertible Camaro on the planet. The huge binder that accompanies the car is packed full of all documentation, photographs, and related starting from birth and continues to date. A complete provenance. I did not take pictures of everything as there is so much but will do so for a specific request. I originally looked at literally hundreds of first generation Camaros searching for this car. There are many out there but unlike this one few have any legitimate documentation and many have been pieced together from multiple cars and reproduction parts. Additionally this car was purchased by a Canadian collector, I believe via a Barrett Jackson sale, and I rescued it not only back to the U.S. where a car like this belongs but also back home to within a few miles from where it was originally purchased (see additional info on that below). The only reason I am selling this fabulous car is my son is now in college and my daughter is a high school senior thus this one has to find a new home to help support the cause. In addition to the documentation this car is a special order X-11 code car. The car was specially-ordered locally in Georgia in 1969 by Judson Whatley for his 24th birthday. He kept the car for almost 20 years and apparently was extremely anal saving every piece of paper associated with the purchase and his 20 year ownership of the car. This precedent was continued through the years by others up to and including my period of ownership. You will not find another car documented to this extreme. Very original “Survivor” RARE X11-coded Special Order Camaro. 327ci/210hp manual 3-speed Camaro convertible. Includes one of a kind detailed and comprehensive provenance as well as complete photographic documentation of 1993 correct-color repaint. What Makes This Car Stand Out Above Others?

Examples of items in the huge binder include original special order (X-11) paperwork/original Bill of Sale, first gas receipt on purchaser's own street, some kind of original owner's name badge "Judson Whatley, Personnel Division", additional original keys, original Protect-O-Plate and owner's manual, all registration, insurance, and tax related paperwork over the years, original owner's (Judson Whatley) Auto Trader page at time of first sale after 19 years of ownership at 77K miles showing original special order "hockey stick" stripes and other special order options, 1993 restoration and correct-color and only repaint, photos at several car shows to include 1992 Southeastern Nationals, infinite and methodical documentation of any and all repairs to date over the car's life, and everything else one might want to see. I personally added photos of the car in front of the original dealership, located about 20 miles from my home, as well as next to the new retro Camaros. The third generation family owner of the still in business dealership (Andean Chevrolet in Cumming, Georgia) spent time looking at the car and reviewing the original documentation. He specifically commented his late Mother's signature on the original Bill of Sale and made a copy of it for himself. He also provided a hand-written letter on Andean letterhead for the binder as well as some dealership decals and trinkets. I added some additional pictures to include departure from Canada and arrival back to its original home in Georgia. Added the GT Parade booklets and photos as well. Also included is the prior Alberta, Canada plate. Car still wears it's 1993 restoration repaint which presents very well. No rust anywhere, no scratches, no dents, just a few very minor nicks touched up in the past with correct match touchup paint. Car has parade boot, as well as original jack and spare tire. Body panels including floor pans and trunk are believed to be original. The car was featured in a commercial 5 years ago which is still on YouTube at the link below. Car is driven regularly and can easily be driven anywhere with no concern. Has been driven in the last two Georgia Tech homecoming parades and the rare and original color Olympic Gold is very similar to the color of the Ramblin' Reck color of the mascot vehicle. Car can be made available with adequate notice for professional inspection or personal visual inspection. $1000 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hours of auction close. Car is will be also for sale locally shortly and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thank you for looking at my auction and good luck. You will not be disappointed! You will not find a better documented and unmolested original First Generation Camaro plus the unique X-11 code special order features. If you would like any additional information do not hesitate to contact me via ebay email. Don |

Ford GT dominates Le Mans qualifying, gets slapped with performance adjustment
Fri, Jun 17 2016Fifty years after Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon drove the Ford GT40 to victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford is poised for a historic return to the Circuit de la Sarthe. The new Ford GT took the top two qualifying positions in the LMGTE Pro class, and four of the top five. Ferrari's 488 filled in the rest of the spots in the top seven, the first two from AF Corse. In other words, we're primed for a reboot of the classic Ford-Ferrari feud at this year's race. Or not, as the ACO, which organizes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, announced sweeping pre-race Balance of Performance (BOP) adjustments this morning that make this year's GT class anybody's race. In LMP1, last year's overall winner Porsche locked up the top two spots with the 919 Hybrid and will lead the entire field at race start. Toyota's two-car factory effort followed with qualifying times 1.004 and 2.170 seconds behind the pole lap. Audi rounds out the manufacturer-backed LMP1 class in fifth and sixth. Full qualifying results can be found here. The storyline for the GT cars is perfect - some say too perfect. Ford's class-leading times came after BOP adjustment to the Corvette Racing C7.R before qualifying. BOP is intended to level the playing field in the class by adjusting power, ballast, and fuel capacity. (Check out this explainer video for more, or even just if you love French accents.) But the process is riddled with unknowns and ripe for accusations of sandbagging. That is, if the Ford cars were intentionally slow in practice they could hope for BOP adjustment to improve their race chances. On the Corvette side, last year's GTE Pro winner went from the top of the field to the bottom, barely improving from practice to qualifying. If you think Le Mans is as rigged at the NBA Playoffs, well, it's not that simple. Because if Ford and Ferrari held back until qualifying - the eighth-place Porsche 911 RSR is three-and-a-half seconds off the class pole time - it was a pretty dumb strategy. This morning, the ACO tried to put things back in order by limiting the boost in the Ford GT's twin-turbo V6 and adding 11 pounds of ballast. Ferrari was also given extra weight but allowed more fuel capacity. The Corvette and Aston Martin teams were both given breaks on their air restrictors, which will allow their engines to make more power. Both Ford and Porsche also received extra fuel capacity.
Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
'84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia
Fri, Jan 16 2015These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models.
