Rare Ember Firemist (98) Mostly Original Paint, Nice Original Interior, Loaded! on 2040-cars
Summerfield, North Carolina, United States
1966 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible "Regarded by Many as the Last Year for the Best Eldorado.....If you ever drove one you would understand why!" HIGHLY OPTIONED CAR *** SPECIAL "ELDORADO ONLY" EMBER FIREMIST COLOR *** ORIGINAL CONDITION UP FOR AUCTION is my 1966 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. The 1966 Eldorado is regarded by many to be the "Last of the Best" of the Eldorado offering with a convertible and rear wheel drive....The 1967 model got a complete remake and though a styling breakthrough, it was now front-wheel drive and was not offered again as a convertible until 1971. I love them all, I really do, but the 1966 models are my favorite. The 429 makes smooth power and idles so quiet you barely hear them running at a stop light. This Eldorado is a highly optioned car that is still wearing almost all of it's original paint with the exception of the passenger fender which suffered a minor "Grandpa parking/garage entry bruise"(.....It's always the passenger side, right?) The floors and frame are very solid and the original interior is terrific for being all original: The dash pad has NO cracks and the instruments are clean...The temperature sensor plastic bezel is 100% (most of the time these are trash). The original carpet is great and the door panels are super nice with only the top edge of the wood needing refinishing. The trim is complete and the rear bumper center is straight (most of the cars you see are always pushed in at the license plate and the top gap along the trunk is irregular). As for the front bumper, I have an arrow straight spare on a parts car that's included in the sale. All the "E L D O R A D O" letters are on the car but an "O" and the parts car has that one so it's covered. The white top is in great condition (almost new) but it's dirty....The car is coded for a black top and I think it would look better with black since the interior is black. Back to the options.....This Eldorado had the boxes checked when it was ordered: A/C, Power Trunk Closer, Trunk Release, AM/FM Stereo (That still plays and the power antenna still works), twilight Sentinel Headlight controller, Cruise Control, as well as the power vent windows and primary windows (all working) and power seats. If you want to dress it up with an option it did not have, the parts car has the rare Bucket Seats w/ Headrests and Consolette. This Eldorado drives well....Bump the key and the engine comes to life and goes to high idle for the warm up. Blip the accelerator when it's warm and it drops to operating idle without issue. The transmission shifts as it should (I have serviced it and replaced the rear seal back in the fall...Also had the driveshaft balanced while it was out). The brake system was also gone thru last fall and received new lines, master cylinder, and wheel cylinders. The more it is driven, the better it runs. I have owned the car for 4 years and intended to give her all the love she deserves, but I am planning on relocating to the west and away from the cold/wet east and decided that I would not start anymore projects than I already have on-going, so it is with regret that I offer this great car to someone else. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to buy a good solid mostly original car that you can drive around in and give it the "refreshing" when you can, as you can. Most of the time when these cars are available, they are rusty clap wagons that are missing parts and pieces or they are restored cars asking over $80,000 (and these classic Cadillacs are not Camaros,Tri 5s, or Mustangs....You can't build the whole car with a cowl tag or just order the parts from Year One or NPD.....If you're missing something you have to hunt for the correct part and then restore it. Starting off with a complete, solid and original car makes a BIG difference. DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!!! Call with any questions 336-202-8762 or email. |

Cadillac Super Cruise priced from $2,500 on the 2021 Escalade
Thu, May 14 2020Super Cruise will find its next home in the 2021 Cadillac Escalade. The brand had rolled out Super Cruise three years ago on the CT6 as a $5,000 option for the top two trims, then switched up pricing for 2020 when MSRP increases on the top two trims made the more full-featured Super Cruise standard. Cadillac Society reports that the brand will make the hands-free driving technology an option on all but the base 2021 Escalade. On the Premium Luxury and Sport, the feature will cost $2,500, but requires the $3,650 Driver Assist and Technology Package that bundles adaptive cruise control, air ride adaptive suspension, automatic seat belt tightening and soft-close/cinching doors, enhanced automatic emergency braking and reverse automatic braking, and illuminated front sill plates. This brings the total to $6,150 for the middle two trims. The top Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum trims include the Driver Assist Package, making Super Cruise a no-fuss $2,500 option. The pricing is the same on the standard model and long-wheelbase ESV trims. Earlier this year, Cadillac announced the improvements its made to the SAE Level 2 autonomous driving system, prime among them being the automatic lane change feature. After the driver flicks the turn stalk to indicate the desired lane, the system will automatically locate an opening in traffic where it can safely change lanes. Numerous small improvements will make life easier for drivers, too, like 70,000 more miles of compatible highways, easier Super Cruise engagement, finer steering and speed control, smoother turns, better control through highway interchanges, and much richer map information. After the Escalade, the CT4 and CT5 sedans, and the XT6 are in line to receive Super Cruise blessings. A couple of years ago there were rumors that the XT4 and XT5 would get Super Cruise, but that's likely a ways off, if it happens. Related Video:
GM CEO Akerson calls out Tesla, says Cadillac will compete on EVs
Tue, 24 Sep 2013Cadillac will be taking on Tesla Motors, the underdog EV manufacturer that's seen heaps of critical acclaim and stock market buzz with its most recent sedan, the Model S. "If you want to compete head-to-head with Tesla, and we ultimately will, you want to do it with a Cadillac," Dan Akerson, the chairman and CEO of General Motors, told media in Washington, according to The Detroit News.
Akerson continued, telling The News, "We'll sell more Volts and lose less money on the Volts than they'll lose on the Model S." He also took time to point out that Tesla getting vehicles out to customers isn't a guarantee of success or permanence, using Fisker as an example, saying "Does anybody even remember Fisker? I mean, there were a number of them; they are all gone."
This strong talk from Akerson comes after Doug Parks, another GM exec, let slip that the Detroit-based manufacturer has an EV in the works that will cover 200 miles per charge and only cost about $30,000, a massive upgrade over similarly priced EVs that struggle to top 100 miles per charge. Until that vehicle arrives, though, GM is preparing the Cadillac ELR, a small coupe that, like the Volt with which it shares technology, uses a gas engine as a mobile generator to recharge the batteries. Akerson took aim at Tesla again, saying, "But I do think when the ELR comes out late this year, early next - it's certainly the same postal code as Tesla, but now we're going to move up. It's not going to be a mass-produced car."
General Motors could turn Hamtramck into its electric pickup, SUV hub
Fri, Nov 15 2019Electric off-roaders could revitalize the Detroit-Hamtramck factory that General Motors previously announced it will close. While official details remain shrouded in secrecy, analysts believe the plant will be re-tooled to manufacture at least three electric models due out during the early 2020s. The plant's scheduled closure was one of the grievances the United Auto Workers (UAW) union cited when it embarked on a 40-day strike in September 2019. General Motors agreed to keep it open without shedding much light on what it planned to build there. Analyst at LMC Automotive told the The Detroit News they believe an often-rumored electric SUV that will resurrect Hummer's name, image, or both will be one of the models assigned to the Hamtramck plant. Battery-powered variants of the GMC Sierra and the Cadillac Escalade will be made there, too, as will an enigmatic van. LMC Automotive's Jeff Schuster believes the van will come first; it could enter production as early as 2021. The Hummer — which might also be offered as a pickup — will follow before the end of 2022, while the Sierra and the Escalade will both arrive in 2023. We're taking this report with a grain of salt, though, because only one of the aforementioned models has been announced by General Motors. Rumors of a Hummer resurrection emerged in the summer of 2019, just a few weeks before we heard unverified reports of a battery-powered variant of the next-generation Escalade. General Motors confirmed plans to enter the burgeoning electric pickup truck segment, which Ford, Rivian, and Tesla also have their sights on, but it hasn't detailed how or when. The van is a mystery. General Motors refused to comment on the report. It previously announced it will keep Hamtramck open, and invest $3 billion to build electric vehicles there. The investment will create 2,225 jobs. Inaugurated in February 1985, the Hamtramck factory has churned out a diverse selection of models over the past 34 years, including Cadillac's Eldorado, Seville, and Allante, the Oldsmobile Toronado, the Buick Riviera, and more recently, gasoline-electric Chevrolet Volt. General Motors announced plans to close Hamtramck in 2018, but it quickly backpedaled and extended its lease on life until 2020 by keeping the Chevrolet Impala and the Cadillac CT6 around for a few additional months.
