WOW! This car was recently brought to the east coast from Arizona (originally purchased at Coulter Cadillac - which is still in business) and it has virtually NO RUST! The Biarritz option on the Eldorado model means that this baby has all of the options and elegant appointments that were available from the dealer. Body panels are very straight and original. The chrome bumpers and stainless steel body moldings are stunningly beautiful! The double plush brown leather upholstered seats are nearly perfect. No rips or tears, front or back. Driver's seat has all of the adjustable options and the front passenger seat has the rare "full recliner" option which basically turns it into a cushioned bed for those long cruises. All of the wood trim is nearly perfect. No cracks in the dash, the door panels, the rear package tray area etc. All gauges, lights (including the classy side "opera lights"), cruise control and accessories work as they should except the power antenna and windshield washers (wipers work fine). The 8-Track player works fine and the speakers still sound good. Included will be 8-Track tapes of the Beach Boys, Elvis and the official 1977 Cadillac one with some cool old instrumentals and songs. No strange odors or stains anywhere inside the car. Original Cadillac logo floor mats are showing their age a bit but they still serve their purpose of protecting the plush carpeting and floor pans underneath. Period correct white wall tires. Very clean under the hood. No rust or any issues in the trunk either. Full sized spare and all jacking equipment is included. Looks to be free of any past accidents or body filler. The striking retro color paint with original pin striping is very unique and this car simply makes people smile! The Caddy has had new brake pads installed in August of 2013. Calipers were serviced top to bottom. This Eldo has had a full tune up including plugs, fuel filter and air filter, complete Q-Jet carburetor tear down and cleaning, engine timing and oil change done in August of 2013 by a certified GM mechanic. The AC was serviced in July of 2013 and the heater will keep you and your passengers warm and toasty this winter. I have kept it garaged since I've owned it and it has not seen ANY rain, sleet, snow or road salt at all! It is only driven locally a couple times a week to local meets. You can own this nice example of American automotive engineering and absolute elegance if you act now. Included in the sale are the dealer's new car check list, the pre-delivery inspection procedure, 1977 Cadillac Consumer Information pamphlet, Coulter Cadillac service recommendation card, Uniroyal Tires warranty booklet, 1977 Cadillac Maintenance Schedule booklet, Coulter Cadillac Retail Buyer's Order, Odometer Mileage Statement dated 7/1/77, and the original owners manual. PAYPAL will be accepted for the non-refundable $500.00 deposit. NO WIRE TRANSFERS ACCEPTED. Personal checks must clear in my account before car or title leaves my possession. No warranty is implied or given and the car will be sold where is, AS IS. I can help you with shipping or work with a transport service AT YOUR COST AND ARRANGEMENT. Thank you for looking and for your consideration. |

General Motors posts record earnings, but global sales fall
Thu, Apr 21 2016General Motors started the year with record success. The automaker's $2.7 billion in adjusted earnings before interest and taxes was its highest ever in in the first quarter of 2016, up from $2.1 billion in from the same time period a year earlier. Net income grew to $1.95 billion, which was more than double the $953 million in the same period last year. The company's figures also beat analysts' predictions, according to the Detroit Free Press. Despite the financial growth, global sales actually decreased by 2.5 percent to 2.36 million vehicles. "We're growing where it counts, gaining retail share in the US, outpacing the industry in Europe and capitalizing on robust growth in SUV and luxury segments in China," CEO Mary Barra said in the company's financial announcement. GM did well in North America with an adjusted EBIT of $2.3 billion, up from $2.2 billion last year. Sales in the region also grew 1.2 percent to 800,000 vehicles. According to The Detroit Free Press, the company has been especially successful at selling more expensive models in the US. The company's average vehicle was $34,600 in Q1, about $3,000 more than the industry average. Elsewhere in the world, GM also showed improvement. Europe practically broke even after losing about $200 million last year, and Opel and Vauxhall sales grew 8.4 percent to more than 300,000 vehicles for the quarter. South America only lost $100 million, which was half as much as Q1 2015's $200 million loss. China remained flat at $500 million of income. Cadillac volume jumped 6.1 percent there, and Buick's deliveries increased 22 percent, thanks to the Envision crossover's success. GM Reports First-Quarter Net Income of $2.0 Billion 2016-04-21 EPS diluted of $1.24; First-quarter record EPS diluted-adjusted of $1.26 First-quarter record EBIT-adjusted of $2.7 billion GM Europe posts break-even performance DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) today announced first-quarter net income to common stockholders of $2.0 billion or $1.24 per diluted share, compared to $0.9 billion or $0.56 per diluted share a year ago. Earnings per share diluted-adjusted for special items was a first-quarter record at $1.26, up 47 percent compared to the first quarter of 2015. The company set first-quarter records for earnings and margin, with earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) adjusted of $2.7 billion and EBIT-adjusted margin of 7.1 percent.
Daily Driver: 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Sedan
Tue, Oct 13 2015Daily Driver videos are micro-reviews of vehicles in the Autoblog press fleet, reviewed by the staffers that drive them every day. Today's Daily Driver features the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V sedan, reviewed by David Gluckman. You can watch the video above or read a transcript below. And don't forget to watch more Autoblog videos at /videos. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Hey, it's David Gluckman with another Daily Driver. Today I'm driving a 2016 Cadillac ATS-V. This is the sedan model and it has the optional eight-speed automatic transmission. The ATS-V is the small performance car in Cadillac's lineup. It sits below the CTS-V, which is also new for 2016. Ever since the base ATS came out a few years ago, this has always been a wonderful chassis in search of a great engine to compliment it. This car really changes that. [00:00:30] They've dialed up the chassis, the suspension is a little stiffer, the body is even stiffer, and they've put this really nice 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine under the hood. In terms of power and torque, the new V6 outguns it's main bogey, the BMW M3 and M4. The Cadillac engine puts out 464 horsepower and 445 pound feet of torque, which is tons. [00:01:00] The one issue, though, is the way it delivers that power. It's not as smooth as the BMW and there's a bit of turbo lag that you really don't feel in the German engine. Once you get moving, however, this engine really just wakes up. There's no lag once you're at highway speed. You can floor it and there's plenty of power and torque for easy passes and runup to extra-legal speeds. [00:01:30] It's tons of fun there but around town it just kind of lacks a little bit of the smoothness and responsiveness that we're kind of expecting for a car in this class. The engine does sound pretty nice, though. It has this nice little growl when you start it up and when you get on it, it actually sounds more like a supercharged engine than a turbocharged one. It's a little strange, I think that's maybe some active noise cancellation that Cadillac is doing to cancel out the whooshes and whirs that we're used to from a turbocharger. [00:02:00] That's fine with me. Whatever it is, it sounds good. This car gets the same fancy rear limited-slip differential that the Corvette introduced a couple years ago. It does a really good job of keeping everything manageable. You almost can't tell that the car has 464 horsepower. It keeps everything in line.
Junkyard Gem: 1981 Cadillac Eldorado with V8-6-4 engine
Sun, Aug 18 2019Skyrocketing fuel prices caused by geopolitical events in 1973 and 1979 led to gas lines, federal fuel economy requirements, and an increasing reluctance on the part of American car shoppers to buy big, thirsty Detroit luxury machines. General Motors had pulled off some amazing technological feats in the past — the small-block Chevrolet V8 engine and Hydramatic transmission being two extraordinarily successful ones — and so Cadillac's bosses figured that a combination of computer wizardry and clever mechanical engineering would give the 368-cubic-inch Cadillac V8 a cylinder-deactivation system and resulting superior fuel economy. Here's a very rare example of one of those 1981 Cadillacs, found in a California self-service wrecking yard. The idea behind the V8-6-4 was that computer-controlled solenoids would physically disengage the rocker arms for one or two cylinders on each engine bank under low-load conditions, converting the engine from a 368-cube V8 to a 276ci V6 or 184ci V4 (that's 6.0, 4.5 or 3.0 liters, respectively, for the metric-system aficionados among us). This sort of variable-displacement magic is commonplace today, but it was science-fiction stuff in 1981. An "MPG Sentinel" display on the dash would let the driver know how many cylinders were active at the moment, and the car would get Chevy Citation fuel economy with Cadillac luxury. The V8-6-4 was the standard engine in all 1981 Cadillacs (except for the Seville, which had the troubled Oldsmobile diesel engine as the base powerplant and the V8-6-4 as an option). Unfortunately, the V8-6-4 worked about as well as the Oldsmobile diesel: very poorly. Within a few years, most owners of these engines had disconnected the rocker-deactivation solenoids and just drove their cars as regular full-time V8s. This one has the snazzy "Cabriolet Roof Treatment" option, which boasted "textured elk grain" vinyl and could be had in one of 17 available colors. Front-wheel drive gave the early-1980s Eldorado plenty of interior space, despite its more proletarian Olds Toronado origins, and these velour-covered seats made for very comfortable road trips. The price tag started at $17,550, or about $51,650 in 2019 dollars. The 1981 Imperial went for $18,311, and that car was based on the same platform as the lowly Plymouth Volare. Meanwhile, A BMW 733i cost $28,945 and a new Toyota Cressida a mere $11,599. The 1981 Cadillacs were just a little too much ahead of their time, it turned out.
