1985 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe

Original Saddle Tan Firemist Exterior with Matching Vinyl Roof and Light Tan Leather Interior

4.1L V8 and 4-Speed Automatic Transmission

Excellent 100% Original Condition with Only 37,489 Original Miles

This 1985 Cadillac Eldorado Coupe is a superb 100% original example of the final year of the final generation of traditional Eldorados; the model was dramatically downsized and downgraded the next year. We purchased the car from Daniel Schmitt & Co. of St. Louis, who bought it from its original owner in Palm Springs, California (see original listing here). Since then it has been garage kept and driven locally in good weather only. With only 37,489 original miles it has been driven less than 1,500 miles a year, and its condition reflects its exceptionally low mileage.

It is finished in original Saddle Tan Firemist paint with matching vinyl roof and a light tan leather interior. Inside and out, it presents exceptionally well for its age with no major cosmetic flaws. The paint is still shiny, the leather trim still soft and supple. There is no rust or body damage.

As befits one of the premier American luxury cars of its era, it is fitted with a high level of equipment including 4.1L V8 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, leather upholstery, wire wheel covers, automatic climate control, power windows, power door locks, power driver's seat and more.

The car has just had the oil changed, transmission fluid flushed and the rear self-leveling air suspension repaired. The car will also have a new battery installed before being delivered to its new owner. The only significant mechanical flaw of which we are aware of is that the air conditioner needs a recharge as it no longer blows cold.

This is an excellent opportunity to buy one of the best examples you will find of this generation of Eldorado.

Please remember that while this car is in excellent condition, it is still a used car, and therefore has wear consistent with its age and (very low) mileage.

We believe this listing is a fair and accurate representation of the car and its condition, to the best of our knowledge. However, because of its age, it is being sold as-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have and we will be happy to answer them to the best of our ability.

The car is located in Islip, Long Island, NY. The buyer is welcome to collect the car in person, or it can be shipped to them. If the buyer chooses to have the car shipped, the buyer will be responsible for all shipping charges and for making all shipping arrangements.

The winning bidder will be required to pay a deposit of $1,000.00 via PayPal within 48 hours of the close of the auction. Full payment via cashier's check is required within 7 days of the close of the auction. Payment may also be in cash at the time of pick-up if the buyer chooses to pick the car up in person. If the buyer chooses to have the car shipped, we will not ship the car until we have received full payment.

Please note that this car is for sale to US and Canadian buyers only.

Thank you and good luck!

Best sport sedans for 2022 and 2023

Thu, Nov 11 2021

SUVs dominate the car industry at every size and price level, but some people still prefer the looks, and more importantly, the performance and comfort, of the traditional sedan. With a lower ride height, lighter weight and generally smaller size, they often are much more fun to drive, and can even be more comfortable. Sport sedans of course lean harder on the performance side of things, and are among the best options for sheer speed and fun, thanks to those inherent characteristics. We've rounded up the ones in the segment that do the sporty dance better than any others in 2024 to give you a handy guide when you're shopping for one of your own. You'll find a wide array of cars here including gas, electric and hybrid powertrains. They'll have manual and automatic transmissions and drive the front, rear or all four wheels. Technically a few hatchbacks have slipped in, but they're close enough in look and feel that we wanted to include them. And excluding them means you might miss out on some of the best-driving options available. You wouldn't want that, would you? Alfa Romeo Giulia Why it stands out: Punchy four-cylinder; astounding power from Quadrifoglio; light and nimble character; awesome shift paddlesCould be better: Clunky infotainment; sub-par switchgear Read our Alfa Romeo Giulia review We start this list with one of the most predictable inclusions: the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Yes, it's a stereotype that the Italian sport sedan is fun to drive, but the fact is, well, it is. The Giulia comes standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 280 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful four-cylinders in the segment. It's paired with a snappy and smooth eight-speed transmission and either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.  The engine is lively and torquey, if a little short of revs, and the chassis feels super-light. The steering is eager and the car jumps into corners. We also highly recommend getting a version with the enormous and superb aluminum paddle shifters that make clicking through gears much more entertaining. And on the topic of the interior, it's attractive, but the various switches and knobs feels a little cheap, and the infotainment system is clunky. Of course there's also the incredible Giulia Quadrifoglio at the high end. It gets a Ferrari-derived twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 making 505 hp, and it's rear-wheel drive only.

GM extends vehicle production cuts into mid-March due to global chip shortage

Tue, Feb 9 2021

DETROIT — General Motors said on Tuesday it was extending production cuts at three North American plants until at least mid-March due to the global semiconductor chip shortage, while vehicles at two other factories would only be partially built. GM, whose shares dipped 1% after the announcement, did not disclose the impact volumes or say which supplier and vehicle parts were affected by the chip shortage. But it said it would focus on keeping production running at plants building its highest-profit vehicles, full-size pickup trucks and SUVs. GM said it intended to make up as much lost production as possible once the shortage chip eased. "Semiconductor supply remains an issue that is facing the entire industry. GM's plan is to leverage every available semiconductor to build and ship our most popular and in-demand products," GM spokesman David Barnas said. GM said it was extending downtime at its U.S. plant in Fairfax, Kansas, its Canadian factory in Ingersoll, Ontario, and its Mexican facility in San Luis Petosi until mid-March when it would reassess the situation, he said. In addition, GM would build but leave incomplete for final assembly vehicles at Wentzville, Missouri, and its Mexican plant at Ramos Arizpe. GM vehicles affected by the idled plants include the Chevrolet Malibu sedan, Cadillac XT4 SUV, Chevy Equinox, and GMC Terrain SUVs. Vehicles to be left incomplete for now included the Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon pickups and Chevy Blazer SUV. This week, GM had said it was idling the three factories where it has now extended downtime and said it would halve production at a plant in South Korea. The chip shortage has affected many automakers, including Toyota, Volkswagen, Stellantis, Ford, Renault, Subaru, Nissan, Honda and Mazda. Asian chipmakers are rushing to boost production but say the supply gap will take many months to plug. German chipmaker Infineon said the shortage would get worse in the near term. The chip shortage is expected to cut global output in the first quarter by more than 670,000 vehicles and last into the third quarter, IHS Markit said. AutoForecast Solutions estimated total lost production this year could reach 1 million vehicles. Honda and Nissan said on Tuesday they would sell 250,000 fewer cars in total this financial year due.

Cadillac ATS sedan is in its last year

Wed, May 9 2018

Cadillac has just confirmed that the ATS Sedan dies at the end of the 2018 model year. In an e-mail to CarBuzz, spokesman Donny Nordlicht wrote, "Production of the ATS Sedan is ending due to extensive plant upgrades, expansion and re-tooling to prepare for the next generation of Cadillac sedans." The admission confirms several months of deduction based on a document trail put together by The Truth About Cars. Last December, TTAC reported that General Motors didn't list a 2019 Cadillac ATS sedan on VIN documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Only the coupe remained, the presumption being that 2018 would be the last year for the sedan. That presumption was bolstered by industry sleuth Bozi Tatarevic's discovery this week that GM hasn't included the ATS sedan in the carmaker's fleet order guide. The death of the four-door ATS won't surprise anyone paying attention to statements from Cadillac or ATS sales figures. Brand then-president Johan de Nysschen strongly hinted last summer that three sedans would bite the dust come 2019, and one would be refreshed. We've seen the gussied-up CT6, so that put the XTS, CTS, and ATS in the funeral home. The XTS would die an unavenged death, while the CTS downsized into the properly midsized CT5 and targeted buyers in the $35,000 to $45,000 range, overlapping with $34,595 ATS sedan pricing by doing so. The ATS would go on hiatus, eventually resurrected as a compact luxury offering possibly called CT3 in coupe form and CT4 as a sedan sometime around 2020. As for the market situation, ATS sales are up 7.3 percent in the U.S. through the end of April this year compared to 2017. However, the ATS sold only 13,100 units in the U.S. in 2017, compared to 21,505 units in 2016 and a high of 38,319 in 2013, its first full year on sale. Assuming new Cadillac president Steve Carlisle stays the predicted course, GM might keep the ATS Coupe as a lure to sporty buyers in the segment until a possible CT5 coupe arrives. Otherwise, Nordlicht's e-mail said "Cadillac's future sedan portfolio will consist of three sedans, positioned in different segments and clearly differentiated by size and price." The 2019 ATS Coupe will stick with its three current engines, the 2.0-liter turbo with 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, the 3.6-liter V6 with 335 hp and 285 lb-ft, and the 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 in the ATS-V with 464 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque.
