1955 CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE PROJECT CAR

UP FOR AUCTION IS MY BELOVED 1955 CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE PROJECT. THE MISSUS SAYS I WON'T OR CAN'T DO IT (THAT IS- PART WITH IT), BUT I GOTTA  DO IT! I SIMPLY HAVE TOO MANY PROJECTS THAT DEMAND MY IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND MY IMMEDIATE DOLLARS.  I STARTED THIS RESTORATION IN EARNEST IN 1994 ACQUIRING ONE 1955 CADILLAC COUPE DEVILLE IN BARBERTON, OHIO NEAR MY HOMETOWN (THE CARS AND I ARE IN TENNESSEE NOW). I THEN SET UPON COLLECTING PARTS, ACQUIRING MORE PARTS, CARS, REBUILDING THE ENGINE, RESTORING A BODY THAT WAS TOO ROUGH FOR ANYONE BUT THE HARDIEST BODY MAN. I WILL ATTEMPT TO DESCRIBE EVERYTHING THAT I CAN THINK OF TO HELP YOU CADILLAC LOVERS MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION. THE GRAY PRIMERED, STRIPPED DOWN CAR IS THE ONE THAT HAS RECEIVED THE WELD-IN WORK AND IS THE ONE IF YOU DECIDE TO FULFILL MY HOPE AND FINISH RESTORING THE CAR TO IT'S ORIGINAL GLORY.  THIS COUPE WAS LIFTED OFF BODY TO HAVE BODY GUSSETS WELDED IN, INNER AND OUTER ROCKER WELDED IN, FLOOR PAN SECTIONS WELDED IN, AND QUARTER PANEL SECTIONS WELDED IN. THE QUARTER SECTIONS THEN WERE LEADED IN AT THE SEAMS FOR A BETTER BOND OVER THE LONG HAUL. THE CAR WAS THEN PRIMERED IN EPOXY GRAY, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES IT NEEDS TO HAVE A DUST-OVER WITH A SAND BLASTER TO ELIMINATE WAS IS MERELY SURFACE RUST. HEY, DID I MENTION I PUT NEW BODY BUSHINGS AT THE FRAME MOUNTING POINTS TO RESTORE THAT SIGNATURE CADILLAC RIDE FROM THE 50'S. I DID NOT GET AROUND, WHILE THE BODY WAS LIFTED, TO DOING ANYTHING WITH THE FRAME DESIRING AS I DID TO HAVE A NICE DAILY DRIVER. OF COURSE, THIS COULD STILL BE DONE AT THIS STAGE OF RESTORATION. AS YOU CAN PROBABLY TELL FROM THIS DESCRIPTION THAT I HAVE A COUPLE HUNDRED OR MORE HOURS ALREADY TIED UP IN THIS PROJECT AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE CAR FINISHED AND RESTORED TO IT'S FORMER GLORY. ENOUGH ABOUT THE BODY THEN.

I HAVE AT LEAST ONE OPERATIONAL TRANSMISSION THAT CAME OUT OF A FOURTH CADILLAC THAT I PERSONALLY DROVE. I HAVE NEW WEATHERSTRIPPING THAT I BOUGHT AHEAD OF THE GAME IN ANTICIPATION OF MY COMPLETION. I HAVE FIVE NEW PERIOD CORRECT WIDE WHITE WALL DUAL 90' TIRES (SEE PICTURES).

THE PARTS THAT WERE REMOVED BY ME FROM THE RESTORATION CAR ARE STORED IN BOXES IN MY GARAGE AND ARE FAIRLY WELL LABELED. I HAVE A WINDSHIELD AND BACK GLASSES. THERE IS A GOOD TRUNK LID (SEE PICTURES ) WITH THE ORIGINAL DIAGRAM FOR THE TIRE CHANGE INSTRUCTIONS STILL INTACT. I HAVE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS AS WELL THAT DO NEED RESTORED AND RE-CHROMING.

PARTS CARS- AS YOU CAN TELL FROM THE PICTURES I HAVE 2 ADDITIONAL PARTS CARS THAT ARE PART OF THE PACKAGE THAT CAN SERVE TO SUPPLY ANY NECESSARY PARTS AND TO SERVE AS A GUIDE TO ASSEMBLY AND RESTORATION. ONE OF THE PARTS CARS IS A VERY DESIRABLE AIR-CONDITIONED CAR AS YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED AS IS THE RESTORATION CAR.  THE OTHER CAR HAS THE VERY REAR AUTRONIC EYE SYSTEM. THESE CARS WERE PURCHASED FROM A GENTLEMAN IN MISSOURI AND HAULED BACK TO OHIO WHERE I WAS AT THE TIME.

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES, YOU HAVE 2 CARS WITH ENGINES.
EITHER OF THESE ENGINES WILL MOST LIKELY NEED A COMPLETE REBUILD.
ALSO ONE UN-RESTORED CAR HAS THE VALUABLE AND HARD TO FIND AUTRONIC
EYE DIMMER OPTION. ALONG WITH THAT THIS CAR HAS FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING
WHICH WAS VERY RARE FOR THAT ERA.

AS YOU CAN SEE ON THIS PROJECT I HAVE DONE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF LEGWORK IN THIS RESTORATION THAT CAN SERVE TO MOVE THIS THING ALONG FOR WHOEVER WILL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND SEE THE COUPE DEVILLE TO COMPLETION.

IT IS MY HOPE THAT SOME HARDY CADILLAC AFICIONADO WILL DESIRE TO FINISH THIS PROJECT AS THESE CARS HAVE GONE UP IN PRICE AND VALUE AND ARE HARDER TO FIND THAN EVER. MY LOW PRICE IS REFLECTIVE OF MY DESIRE TO HELP TOWARD THAT END. PLEASE GIVE THOROUGH CONSIDERATION BEFORE BIDDING AND CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, WOULD LIKE MORE SPECIFIC PICTURES. OR WOULD LIKE TO ARRANGE FOR AN IN-PERSON INSPECTION OF THE CARS. I CAN BE CALLED AT MY PLACE OF BUSINESS HERE IN SUNNY COOKEVILLE, TENNESSEE AT 1-800-277-3575.

SHIPPING - IF YOU ARE THE SUCCESSFUL BIDDER ON THE PACKAGE DEAL I CAN OFFER SHIPPING AND TRANSPORT AS I HAVE BOTH A BOX VAN FOR THE PARTS AND A 3 CAR WEDGE TRAILER TO HAUL THE CARS TO YOUR LOCATION. THE COST FOR THIS SERVICE WOULD BE $2.00 PER TRUCK PER LOADED MILE.

GM threatens predatory dealers with order cancellations, non-transferrable warranties

Fri, Jul 29 2022

General Motors will launch a second salvo against misbehaving dealerships next week with a new set of policies aimed at curbing predatory markup strategies. With the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06, GMC Hummer EV SUV and Cadillac Escalade-V about to head into production, GM is putting its foot down yet again. Dealers that attempt to circumvent GM's markup restrictions by dealing directly with brokers or other resellers could find themselves in a particularly nasty spot, as the company is threatening to withhold future allocations and end the transferability of warranties when dealers facilitate the reselling of vehicles within 12 months.  While this may help curb some dealership chicanery, it's possible the real loser in such a deal could end up being the customer who unwittingly ends up with an un-warrantied vehicle. We suspect GM has accounted for that, but we'll have to wait until next week to find out exactly how these new policies will be enforced.

Cadillac Escalade driven by Tony Soprano for sale

Fri, Nov 6 2015

If you're a fan of The Sopranos imagining a trip to the Bada Bing, then check out this white 2003 Cadillac Escalade ESV for sale by RR Auction. James Gandolfini drove this luxury SUV in the role of Tony Soprano for the last three seasons of the mafia-themed series. Gandolfini also signed the interior to give you something to show off to your buddies. If you've ever watched the show, you've almost certainly seen this white SUV before. According to the auction listing, the series featured two Escalades, and this one was used for exterior shots. The Caddy even starred in an action scene in season 5 when Tony chased after Phil Leotardo. Gandolfini's signature appears inside twice: once with "Thanks for the truck, James Gandolfini" and again with just his name. The auction also includes a letter of authenticity that's signed by the actor, and a second document asserts the SUV's use in the series. Apparently, Gandolfini had a habit of signing messages in his vehicles from the show – at one point he wrote a threatening "Be nice to my car" message in a red Chevrolet Suburban from earlier episodes. The auction for Tony's Escalade runs from November 12-19, which still leaves plenty of time for a meeting of the families to decide to buy it. Bidding starts at $5,000, and according to The Drive, the consignor estimates a final price between $30,000 and $50,000. This sale should at least come to a more definitive end than The Sopranos did. If Cadillac’s smart, the CT5 will be a CTS without baggage

Fri, Jul 28 2017

Cadillac is, mercifully, about to rationalize its lineup, something that's been a long time coming. The CTS is one of those cars that gets admiration from reviewers, like us, for a concerted effort from GM to engineer an underlying platform that matches the Germans in terms of raw dynamics. From buyers, it gets not even a shrug as they, oblivious to its existence, walk right into BMW and Mercedes dealerships. The reasons for this have a lot to do with the sheer brand recognition, and the image, of the German competitors. You can't really lay that all at GM's feet, but what you can do is critique the uninspired drivetrain selection. The 3.6-liter V6 is a crude implement, making its 335 horsepower roughly. The BMW's equivalent inline six makes its power smoothly, with modern forced induction. There's no directly comparable E-Class sedan until you get into the V-Sport versus E43 situation, but the turbo four is smooth. And the interior? No question. The Mercedes is jaw-slacking. The story for the CTS's turbo four is largely the same. Some blame also has to be leveled at the first- and second-generation CTS sedans, which adopted an odd strategy: sell a slightly larger sedan to folks looking at 3-Series, A4, and C-Class, but at about the same price. Folks weren't interested in a larger car for the same money. Despite the third-gen CTS's growth into the 5-Series size class, the CTS still seems like an odd in-betweener in the sport luxury segment – psychologically, if not physically. CTS sales are in the toilet in 2017, and GM is smart to shake things up. So with the announcement that Cadillac head honcho Johan de Nysschen has finally been allowed to kill off underperforming models, the CTS is toast. (As is the ATS, and much more importantly, the XTS – a shambling dinosaur of a sedan.) What's next is the CT5, and that's what we're interested in now. Cadillac has until 2019 to figure out what the CT5 actually is. That isn't a lot of time, so our money is on it being a repositioned, rationalized CTS. The platform's not bad; it's heavier than the larger CT6, but it's fairly modern. Sadly, it's unlikely that any of the standard powertrain options will get a revamp, but maybe some additional sound deadening or an active engine mount system to reduce NVH will quell the V6's bad habits. View 32 Photos More importantly, Cadillac will get a chance to work on the interior look, almost certainly aligning it more closely with the much improved CT6. That'll help a lot.
