BUICK FOR 1960

The 1960 Buick launched a new decade in design innovation as Americans sought to identify success and prosperity with bold automotive statements cast in brilliant colors and remarkable shapes. Perhaps the finest example came from General Motors’ linear styling efforts using innovative driver controls and time-tested V8 power. Introduced in 1959 together with Buick's “Jet-Age” look, 1960 marked the second year of the “Four Fin” Buick characterized by deeply sculpted sides and B-52 inspired “Twin Jet-Pod nacelle headlamps” neatly tucked under the forward fin eye-brows.

Totally new for 1960, however, was the innovative “Jet Command Instrument Panel.” This ingenious design so impressed Harley Earl that he craved exposing it to other designers. Earl simply gave the Buick stylists a day off while marching the other design chiefs through the Buick studio! The highly innovative concept included “Mirro-Magic” technology that projected instrument readings to the driver through an actual mirror. The unique panel also included a gun-sight shift indicator finished off with “barber pole” aircraft inspired heater controls.

Under the hood is a 364 “Wildcat 385” “Nail head V8,” among the maker’s most dependable mills delivering smooth effortless power through the dependable Turbine Drive (Dynaflow) transmission.

Buick’s 1960 model year set lasting innovative design trends and remains today a technical and aesthetic feast for the eyes and senses.

Updated Buick LaCrosse, Regal to debut at New York Auto Show

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Judging by the spy shots we saw last week for the 2014 Buick LaCrosse and 2014 Buick Regal, we knew it wouldn't be much longer until we saw both sedans receive a grand debut. Today, Buick confirmed to Autoblog both cars will be introduced at the New York Auto Show next month, but no further information has yet been released about either model.
Having been on the market for an extra couple years, the changes to the LaCrosse appear to be more significant than those coming for the Regal, but both will be getting refreshed exterior designs as well as updated interiors. The Regal's new face brings it more in line with the all-new Encore and the restyled Enclave, while the LaCrosse should get a more distinctive, upscale appearance.
Both cars will be introduced exactly a month from today, and we'll be there to bring you all the coverage.

Buick trademarks several variants of Electra name

Thu, Nov 3 2022

The Buick Electra was a sometimes-handsome full-size car that sold for decades, but its time came to an end in the early 1990s as the automaker moved toward smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. That will soon change, as Buick and parent company General Motors recently filed for a series of trademarks for the name. Motor Authority reported that GM filed trademark names ranging from Electra E1 to E9. Though Buick unveiled the Wildcat EV concept earlier this year, it is GM’s only brand without a publicly announced electric vehicle. It has said that an Electra EV would be coming to the U.S. but has not confirmed when itÂ’ll arrive or what it will look like when it does. The automaker says its first EV will come in 2024 and notes that it will offer an all-electric lineup in the U.S. and Canada by 2030, though, so itÂ’s only a matter of time. General Motors already trademarked the Electra GS name last month, which could indicate a high-performance variant in the model line. ItÂ’s unclear if Buick will stick to the Electra formula and make a sleek electric car or if it will use the name on a line of electric crossovers, following the rest of its vehicle catalog. GM Authority spotted an electric crossover testing in China in late October, which could be our first look at the automakerÂ’s newest EV.   The Electra will likely ride on GMÂ’s Ultium platform, whatever the form. The architecture underpins the GMC Hummer EV and will carry the upcoming crop of electric SUVs and trucks from Chevrolet and GMC. Related video:

GM sweetens military discount for Buick, Chevy and GMC

Sun, 06 Oct 2013

American servicemen and women interested in a new vehicle from Chevrolet, Buick or GMC now have a bit more incentive to head down to their local dealer, as General Motors has announced plans to improve its military discount program.
The new GM Military Discount Program offers eligible consumers a new Chevy, Buick or GMC at invoice pricing, which in some cases can take very large chunks out of a car's retail price. When factored in with other incentives, most of which are available with the Military Discount, the bargains are thick on the ground for members of the US armed forces.
GM's Retail Sales and Marketing Support general manager, Chuck Thomson, said, "GM has long supported the military and military families, and we hope this simplified and enhanced discount will show our appreciation for their service and help make it easier for them to own one of our great new vehicles." The program is open to all active duty and reserve members in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard and Coast Guard, as well as veterans that have been out of the service for less than a year. Military retirees and their spouses are also eligible for the discount.
