1998 Bmw Z3 Isr-3 Roadster on 2040-cars
Brownsville, Vermont, United States
This Estoril Blue Roadster BMW Z3 is the ultimate performance version of that car, an BMW/Dinan ISR-3 Roadster. Less than 100 BMW Dinan ISR-3 were ever produced. I am told that the actual number was 46. ISR-3 roadster stands for Intercooled Supercharged Roadster. Each ISR-3 made is unique, they are numbered. Each has a prominent number plate under the hood. And this one bears the number “07”.
The ISR-3 Package, which stands for Intercooled, Supercharged Roadster, adds virtually every high-performance upgrade that Dinan offered for the E36/7 M Roadster. The S52 3.2L inline-six engine now features a Dinan/Vortech belt-driven supercharger that delivers 10lbs of boost, with a Dinan air-to-air intercooler to prevent heat soak. To best utilize the added power from the supercharger, the engine also features Dinan performance software, high-flow intake, high-flow throttle bodies, high-flow fuel injectors and a low-pressure Dinan Free Flow exhaust system. The 5-speed manual transmission is also upgraded with a lightweight clutch and the OEM rear end has been replaced by a 3.38 limited slip differential. The car rolls on lightweight 18″ Dinan wheels and the suspension has been improved with an aluminum & carbon fiber strut tower brace, Koni dampers, performance springs and larger sway bars. All said and done, this M Roadster pumps out incredible horse power and torque in a 3,100lb package that will rocket to 60mphin the low 4s and pulls .91gs on the skid pad and touch a top speed near 160mph.
Factory features of this M Roadster include a premium Harman/Kardon audio system, heated sport seats, optional AM/FM radio with CD player, a sport steering wheel, power-operated soft top, roll bars and air conditioning.

BMW dishes on 'lightweight' 2014 M4
Mon, 15 Jul 2013BMW's M cars are not what we'd call featherweights. Sure, the big, bruising twin-turbocharged V8s deliver a lot of power, but the fact of the matter is that more weight often equates to less fun.
Which is why we're so excited over a recent sit-down the blokes at Top Gear had with BMW's product manager for small and medium cars, Matt Collins. The chat led to talk of the M3 Coupe replacing M4. Collins confirmed that, yes, the new M4 would be turbocharged. The new engine will also be a six-cylinder, which should make purists happy.
"What we'd like is more focus on lightweight engineering." -Matt Collins
Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo offers Europeans a pre-M3 performance 3er
Tue, 05 Mar 2013Anyone that's spent some time behind the wheel of the Alpina B7 probably knows enough to understand what Americans are missing with this, newly launched Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo. We've got no lack of M models to choose from, it's true, but the Alpina touch offers a completely different driving character, with almost as much performance. A pity then that Alpina has no plans that we've heard of to bring this one across the pond.
Filling the gap between the current 3 Series offerings and the outgoing M3 (we're not likely to even see the new M3 and M4 until September's Frankfurt show, nor be able to buy one until after that), the B3 Bi-Turbo brings serious performance to the F30 3er. As the name indicates, two turbochargers are used to force-feed BMW's 3.0-liter inline-six engine, for a total output of 410 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. That power offers a big jump from even the BMW 335i sedan, and will push the B3 to 62 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 190 miles per hour. Alpina's own sport suspension underpins the thing, while the power is modulated by way of a eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new B3 will be easily recognizable thanks to its "Classic" 20-inch, 20-spoke Alpina wheels, and a rather subtle, aero-enhancing body kit. No pricing has yet been announced, but you will find a host of additional information in the attached Alpina press release below.
10 automakers sued over keyless ignitions
Thu, Aug 27 2015Keyless ignition has rapidly proliferated throughout the auto industry to become a fairly normal feature on new cars. It's supposed to offer the convenience of keeping the fob in your pocket and just pressing a button to drive away. However, ten major automakers are now being sued in US District Court over claims that the system is dangerous, Reuters reports. The suit alleges that people are forgetting to shut off the engine, and the lack of an idle timer is the cause for 13 deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and multiple injuries. The suit currently includes 28 plaintiffs, according to Reuters, but the lawyers are asking for class-action status to potentially add many more. The case goes after a major swath of the industry, including BMW, Daimler, FCA, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen, plus their related brands like Acura, Infiniti, Mini, and Lexus. In all, over five million vehicles are affected. The assertion here is that people walk away from their vehicle without shutting it off because they believe the engine shuts off automatically. If parked in a garage, carbon monoxide can build up, leading to poisoning. The lawyers claim automakers know this is a problem and also cite 27 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue, according to Reuters. The plaintiffs are asking for an automatic shut-off and damages from the companies. These concerns have come up before, though. Toyota previously faced a lawsuit over a carbon monoxide death after a woman accidentally left her Lexus running. Also earlier this year, GM recalled 64,186 examples of the 2011-2013 Chevrolet Volt because owners weren't shutting them off. The problem resulted in two injuries, and the company released a software update to limit the idling time.
