1991 Bmw M5 Dinan E34 3.9 Stroker, Suspension And Brakes M3, M6 on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
REAL DEAL DINAN STROKER SUPERCAR DONE AT DINAN SHOP Was taken to Dinan to have a Stage 2 Dinan stroker, complete suspension with SLS delete and their brake upgrade. Also has Dinan camber plates. Stroker included new engine and 1 camshaft. Orig docs state stage 1 but orig owner states stage 2. I was told this was done for smog purposes. I have pics of cams and was told not stock as lobes have chamfer on edges. Honestly there is no reason he would lie as he provided every receipt and invoice for the car. Also one drive and you will be convinced. Suspension includes springs, shocks, struts, SLS delete and adjustable sway bars. Brakes include Dinan upgraded calipers and lager rotors. At 4k she just gets going, suspension will hang with 911's and was one of the best braking cars of it's era. Car comes with 1" of receipts from almost day one. I am not that great at keeping part receipts so if I say it is new you can obviously see they are new. No I don't have a stamped book on a 25 year old car. Basically everything that can be a wear item has been addressed at least once if not 2x's if needed. This is a car you get in, turn the key and drive across country with no issues. That said it is a 25 year old car that was BMW'S hot rod. These cars are noisy, shake, smell just like a real Hot Rod. It is a raw driving experience and is why purists pay premiums for them. Be realistic in your expectations. I am honest seller that uses car DAILY! Ask any of the other car owners for sale if their car can be used daily. There is a HUGE difference in a car that is worked out and one that is dolled up but has hidden issues. Below is list of items changed in approx last 10k miles. Please note add up the cost even if you did yourself and you almost have the asking price of the car. Tires BF Goodrich under 500 miles. 245 fronts and 275 rear 17x8.5 and 17x10 rear rims. Rims through F Fahey and he clearenced rear and rolled lips. They fit perfectly and have perfect tire wear on old and this set. FFahey also did an alignment. MK Motorsport wheels. I know chrome is not everybody's deal and isn't mine. They are light and fit pertly. You can have powder coated. Hood and trunk shocks all 4 Radiator, ALL hoses, water pump, thermostat, BMW anti freeze (vac drained and filled) fan clutch valve adjustment valve cover gaskets spark plugs, rotor and cap TPS switch all vacum hoses tb sync'd oil , tranny and rear fluids changed Kendal and Royal purple. Oil recommended by F Fahey. Power steering hoses Power steering fluid new filter, flushed and filled Pentosin 7 Fuel sender, fuel filter, hoses, Injectors new matched and flowed set, engine mounts tranny mount oil pan gasket and main seal blueprinted oil pump Fahey Lower engine bearings Fahey crank saver $450 part F Fahey Short shifter FAHEY bush upgrade clutch master and slave brake fluid flush all belts all belt tensioners a/c service NOT a Pep Boys $5 can redo. A/C Is cold and doesn't leak. Also recent complete rontrt end and brakes maybe 20k miles. Car has been well maintained and drives super nice with no e34 wander on suspension brake shudder. All windows operate. No seat twist. I use car daily to take kids to school. No drama just turn key and go. What car needs: paint, it has clear coat fade and lifting. All panels have vin except hood but it's number has fallen off and by the looks of it I would say orig one, lower engine shields put back on. Have new hardware. Front piece has torn hole installs with zip tie, about time for chain tensioner new upgraded one is included but not installed, radio does not work and i have no idea why as it just shut down. i have code card. Couple exhaust hanger rubber I have new ones from BMW. SRS light cam on when I was cleaning car. I accidentally caught sensor on cloth and it undid connection. I will have rest or credit $100. There are NO issues it is the sensor being unconnected. Has rear oil drain small leak, $5 part or $200 repair. They all leak do research. CA buyers, it has passed smog every year since new in CA. I have tons of regi's and smog receipts. It is currently has a 2015 refi tag. That said I hate smog or anything to do with it. It has passed for 25 years and will be delivered AS IS. NOTHING was done to car to indicate it wouldn't pass today but at this price I would rather not get involved. Any other state zero issues. Also I do not have front plate and have to go to DMV to get front plate. I WOULD RATHER DO OUT OF CA SALE AND WILL DISCOUNT FOR THAT. If you live in CA you understand. Nice car that can easily compete with the $25k cars with a paint job.Always a CA car. I have been quoted $3500 and $5000 to have painted. Price reflects this. Again this is not a stock M5. It is not a backyard install it was done at Dinan and is not just a badge car it is the real deal all you can get Dinan super car. There is no other car that is as road and track capable as this car for the money. Why am I selling? I have medical issues that do not allow me to enjoy the car anymore. Time to pay 5x's for a car that is half as capable. PLEASE SERIOUS ONLY. You win, you own end of story. i DO NOT ACCEPT ANY EXCUSES I DO NOT CARE WHAT IT IS IF YOU HIT BUY IT NOW. IT IS A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT. I will gladly assist any serious buy in any way I can but do not assume anything if you have a special request. This is a $12k car not a $120k new one please be respectful and read above before asking questions. Long winded?? Yes, but it should answer. 99% of questions. WITH BUY IT NOW I WILL THROW IN A RADAR DETECTOR (CAR WIRED FOR IT), A $300 CAR COVER AND A CASE OF OIL. Thats about a $800.00 Thanks and get to bidding!!! |

Car technology I'm thankful and unthankful for
Mon, Nov 27 2017The past few years have seen a surge of tech features in new vehicles — everything from cloud-based content to semi-autonomous driving. While some of it makes the driving experience better, not all tech is useful or well thought out. Automakers who are adept at drivetrains, ride quality and in-cabin comforts often fail at infotainment interfaces and connectivity. From testing dozens of vehicles each year and in the spirit of gratitude, here are three car tech features I'm thankful — and a trio I could live without. Thanks Connected search: This seems like a no-brainer since everyone already has it on their smartphones, but not all automakers include it in the dashboard and as part of their nav systems. The best ones, such as Toyota Entune, leverage a driver's connected device to search for a range of services and don't charge a subscription or require a separate data plan for the car. I also like how systems like Chrysler Uconnect use Yelp or other apps to find everything from coffee to gas stations and allow searching via voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: It took two of the largest tech companies to get in-dash infotainment right. While they have their disadvantages (you're forced to use Apple Maps with CarPlay, for example), the two smartphone-integration platforms make it easier and safer to use their respective native apps for phoning, messaging, music and more behind the wheel by transferring a familiar UI to the dashboard — with no subscription required. Heated seats and steering wheels: I really appreciate these simple but pleasant features come wintertime. It's easy to get spoiled by bun-warmers on frosty mornings and using a heated steering wheel to warm the cold hands. I recently tested a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe that also had heated armrest that added to a cozy luxury experience. Bonus points for brands like Buick that allow setting seat heaters to turn on when the engine is remotely started. No thanks Automaker infotainment systems: Automakers have probably poured millions into creating their own infotainment systems, with the result largely being frustration on the part of most car owners. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming along to make them obsolete. While some automaker systems, such as Toyota Entune and FCA's Uconnect, are easy and intuitive to use, it seems that high-end systems (I'm looking at you BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND) are the most difficult.
2014 BMW 4 Series
Tue, 23 Jul 2013Because Four Is Greater Than Three
Say what you will about the name 4 Series, there is a method to BMW's madness. On one hand, it's easy enough to just buy into the logic that odd numbers are reserved for sedans and wagons, and that even numbers are reserved for coupes and convertibles. On the other hand, consider the idea that the higher numbers are used to separate the more dynamic, more engaging vehicles that use the same platform. It's that sort of separation that differentiates the 6 Series so nicely from its 5 Series roots, after all. And if we're being cynical, it also allows BMW to charge a bit more money for its lower-volume offerings.
So with the new two-door version of the 3 Series, BMW has gone the route of strengthening the dynamic virtues of its F30 chassis to create a car that's more removed from its sedan kin than one might think. And after spending some time with the new 4 Series on the roads around Lisbon, Portugal, as well as the famous Circuito do Estoril racetrack, it's increasingly clear that calling this car a 3 Series Coupe simply wouldn't be fair.
BMW X4 M40i spotted testing in Germany
Mon, 04 Aug 2014The stream of segment-busting BMW variants is showing no signs of letting up, and with the latest addition now upon us, questions have been circulating as to whether the Bavarian automaker would do an M version of the new X4 crossover. The jury may still be out on that proposition, but the latest intel suggests that, while a full-on X4 M may not be in the cards, a next-best-thing X4 M40i is in the works. And that appears to be what we're looking at in this fresh batch of spy shots.
Spotted for the first time undergoing testing in Germany, this X4 is tipped to be the next addition to the M Performance line that's already given us near-boiling models like the M135i and M235i on the one hand and the diesel-powered M550d, X5 M50d and X6 M50d on the other. Power in this case is tipped to come from the same 3.0-liter turbo six as the upcoming M2, producing between 360 and 380 horsepower.
Unlike the current top-of-that-specific-line X4 35i, which has two tailpipes on one side, this partially-camouflaged prototype has one pipe protruding from each corner of the rear bumper, but looks like it could easily accommodate twin pipes on both sides. Expect commensurate suspension, brake, rolling stock, aero and trim upgrades to come as part of the package, though they likely won't be quite as substantial as those applied to the X5 M and X6 M.
