Very Unique Car.... Auction Ends Monday, June 10, 7:30pm EST

Proudly listing a 2001 ABT TT Roadster with only 58K miles.  Car was modified and tuned by ABT Sportsline of Kempten, Germany.  ABT is the world's leading tuner of Audi and VW for both racing and street use.  The car is only 3234 lbs and with 310 hp, resulting in very impressive acceleration.  Spectacular bodywork consisting of front spoilers, extended fenders, side skirts, and a rear wing, all developed through extensive wind testing by ABT, gives the car more downward force at high speed. The fact that the car is lowered 30mm does make it a challenge driving on city streets of Buffalo.  You will notice a cracked front spoiler on some of the pics as a result.  I do have a replacement spoiler available but sold separately from the auction.  Words can't describe the deep growl of the exhaust.  ABT used a 4 pipe rear muffler and it sounds better then a Lambo.  This car does 0-60 in 5.4 and a top peed of 157 and corners like no other with the help of all-wheel-drive.  Not the best with fuel economy at 11mpg, but then it's all about performance and not efficiency.

This car has no issue mechanically and everything works as it should.  Air Conditioning blows ice cold.  Battery was replaced two weeks ago.  Cosmetically only the front spoiler needs some attention.  It was not replaced prior to the pics.  The convertible top has no rips or tears and is in excellent condition. I can email a Carfax to anyone wishing to have a copy, but basically the car checks out.  No indication of odometer rollback,  and has never been in an accident.

The car is located in either Toronto or Buffalo depending on the day of the week.  I'm not expecting this car to sell based on description or pics alone and really a test drive is needed to appreciate the car.  Reserve is well under what most ABT's are selling for if one can even be found.  I can provide airport transportation from BUF to the car if need be but please arrange a test drive with me at least two days in advance.

Car does have Canadian origins and if financing the car, be aware that the modifications and tuning by ABT will not be found in the NADA or Kelly Blue Book.  Sale of the car will include a clear Ohio title.

As I mentioned, car must be paid in full within 72 hours.  Accepted forms of payment are cash (in person of course) and wire transfer only.  I do not accept paypal (although you do need an account to bid on the car).

Ready to bid? If you intend on bidding, and have had the account for less then 30 days, or have only bought/sold 15 items or less, you will need to contact me PRIOR to bidding or your bid will be cancelled.  Thanks for your understanding.

eBay messages also come straight to my Smart phone,
so I can respond very quickly.

Thanks for your attention and happy bidding.

Audi buys Ballard fuel cell patents for $80 million

Wed, Feb 11 2015

While some auto companies (e.g., Toyota and Hyundai) are giving away some hydrogen fuel cell patents, others are paying a pretty penny to gain access to the H2 tech. Audi announced today that it has purchased a suite of fuel-cell patent from Ballard Power Systems. The deal between Volkswagen Group and the Canadian fuel cell pioneer is worth over $80 million US. Unsurprisingly, the value of Ballard's stock shot up about a dollar (to $2.61 as of this writing) on the announcement. VW and Ballard will also extend their development agreement, originally scheduled to end in 2017, to March 2019, and possibly another two years after that. Thus far, the deal – which revolves around the "design and manufacture of next-generation fuel cell stacks" for VW's H2 demonstration program – and Ballard says it is a leader in "critical areas of fuel cell product design – including the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), plate and stack components – along with certain testing and integration work." At the LA Auto Show last fall, VW showed off a Golf SportWagen and a Passat with a hydrogen hybrid HyMotion powertrain as well as a Audi A7 Sportback H-Tron Quattro. Audi buys fuel-cell patents from Ballard Power Systems Development agreement with Ballard extended until 2019 Audi's Head of Development Prof. Hackenberg: "The entire VW Group will use these patents." Ingolstadt/Burnaby, February 11, 2015 – AUDI AG has acquired a package of patents relating to fuel-cell technology from Ballard Power Systems Inc. In addition, the Volkswagen Group has extended its cooperation with the Canadian clean energy company until 2019. The purchase of these patents will provide new impetus for the development of fuel-cell drive systems at Audi, VW and the Volkswagen Group. As explained by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG and responsible for the steering of the development departments of all brands in the VW Group: "Audi is acquiring these strategically important patents for the entire group and will make them available to all the brands. In this way, we are securing crucial expertise that will provide new impetus for the further development of this technology." Ballard Power Systems Inc. is based in Burnaby, Canada, and is one of the world's leading companies in the technology of proton exchange membrane fuel cells.

Audi RS3 and Volkswagen Golf R face off in Evo test

Fri, Aug 7 2015

Typically when an automotive publication pits two rivals against each other, they come from different companies. After all, why would one automaker – even one parent company – develop two distinct models to compete against each other? Well, the Volkswagen Group isn't like most. It pits Porsches against Lamborghinis, Audis against Bentleys, Seats against Skodas... all under the same roof. In the high-powered hot hatch market, it offers both the VW Golf R and the Audi RS3. The question is, which is the better drive? Evo put them both on track for a quick bout of sibling rivalry to find out. On paper it would seem like an unfair fight. Sure, both are based on the same platform and channel their power to the tarmac through all four wheels. But the Audi's five-cylinder engine packs considerably more muscle than the Golf's four: 362 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque trump 296 hp and 280 lb-ft. There's just no way around that – at least until the Golf R 400 comes along. The Audi, as you might have guessed, also costs substantially more than the Volkswagen. But that's not Evo's concern here. This is a cost-no-object, bare-knuckle throw-down. Watch the ten-minute video above to find out if the cheaper, less powerful Golf R can keep pace with its more upscale and brawnier brother. Highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the McLaren P1 and a Ford Transit running the hill

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.
