Vintage 1984 Volvo 244gl on 2040-cars
United States
Cosmetically this car is in fantastic shape.
On the interior the leather has one little crack on the drivers seat, and some wear but all the seats are still very comfy and over-all look decent. The dash and interior cloth are in good shape. The lower interior plastic storage compartments on the front doors are both intact, but one is cracked. All the gauges, warning lights, solenoids, and electrical bits work. The dome light works but does not come on with the front doors, only the back doors actuate the switch (or manually turning it to the "on" position). The headlights, blinkers, brake lights, hazards etc all work fine. All the electric windows and switches work, but the rear windows are not in a race to close. Like everything else, those window motors are 30 years old and tired, the switch contacts could be cleaned again too. The power locks still work well by key and manually but they should be greased. On the exterior there are only a couple of spots. The driver-side rear fender just behind the wheel has the only "real" rust, about the size of a couple nickels next to each other. We just found this recently. The sunroof (manual) works well, but at some point it did not and has some scratches on the paint where it was scraping along in and out. Other than that, aesthetically she is a slough of compliments just waiting to be garnered. The issues are mechanical. The New: plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, timing belt, exhaust system, radiator, overdrive solenoid, we recently replaced the starter (for no apparent reason) and very new tires (they maybe have a couple hundred miles on them). Engine: the head gasket needs replacing, so she does not run real nice right now. This has been getting progressively worse. The valves tap at high rpm. The Lambda-sond warning light is on (fuel injection), we have not pulled the injectors to pop test. We do have new Injectors* in case they are bad but have not done any of this engine work. The Water Pump may have a leak as we loose a little water to the road, but this may also be from the leaky head gasket. The bottom bolt on the timing belt cover was a bit rusty (very close to the water pump) so I thought it worth mentioning. Again, brand new radiator. The Front Brakes are going bad again. The brake lines have all been cleaned and/or replaced. The brake line junction has been removed and cleaned but the warning light has still never gone off, might be a bad sensor? We have new vented rotors*, calipers* and pads* for the front to swap on, but have not done so because... The front McPherson Struts are tired. The Rear Shocks aren't great either. We have the heavy duty versions of both* (sold at rockauto.com) but again, have not done the work. The Rack-n-Pinion is done, Rockauto sells a brand that will fit for around $120. It makes us very sad to see her go, but time and money are not things we are flush in. She needs a good home with someone to love her, and spend more time with her than we can... and not be melted down in china. *These items are not included in the sale but will sell them at a deep discount that will make you incredibly happy. |

Volvo and GM team with Amazon for in-car deliveries
Tue, Apr 24 2018Volvo and GM are the first automakers to pair their vehicles with a new service from Amazon that lets owners have their packages delivered inside their cars, without them having to be there. The service will initially be rolled out in 37 U.S. cities at no extra charge to Amazon Prime members with a Volvo On Call or OnStar account, and it works with same-day, two-day and standard shipping. It's intended as an alternative for people who don't want to risk having their package stolen from their front porch or receive deliveries at their workplace, and both automakers say it's an example of how they're embracing innovation as a way to make their customers' lives easier. Volvo released a video (above) showing how the service works. Users download the Amazon Key App (or " Ama-zin," as the narrator pronounces it) and link their Amazon Prime account with their Volvo On Call account — or OnStar, in the case of GM-branded vehicles. Once they register their delivery location in a publicly accessible location, users can select the "In-Car" option at checkout. They get a notification when the delivery is en route and once it's completed and the car is relocked. Volvo has been offering in-car delivery in certain European countries since 2015 through its Volvo On Call platform, which enables services like the ability to send calendar-based navigation destinations directly to the vehicle, find nearby gas stations and help locate the vehicle when you forget where you parked it. Volvo says the platform is now available in roughly 50 countries and covers more than 90 percent of its global sales. The service is compatible with 2015 or newer Volvo, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. Volvo says it's available to the majority of Volvo owners, while GM says more than 7 million vehicle owners can qualify. The service is expected to roll out to more cities later. Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrids get big range and power bumps
Mon, Mar 14 2022Volvo's plug-in hybrid powertrain is getting a significant upgrade for 2023, resulting in all its 90- and 60-series Recharge models effectively doubling their electric range and becoming eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit. A new rear electric motor now delivers 143 horsepower from 87 hp, resulting in a combined output of 455 hp and 523 pound-feet of torque. That's a significant bump from the previous 400 hp and 472 lb-ft. These changes apply to the Recharge versions of the XC90, S90, XC60 and S60, plus the Polestar Engineered trim levels of XC60 and V60. Below are the new electric ranges for each of the Volvo Recharge models. Their previous ranges are in parentheses. S60 Recharge: 41 miles (22) V60 Polestar Engineered: 41 miles (22) XC60: 35 miles (19) XC60 Polestar Engineered: 35 miles (19) S90 Recharge: 38 miles (21) XC90 Recharge: 35 miles (18) These range increases are the result of a new long-range battery pack featuring a third layer of cells. This brings total capacity from 11.6 kWh to 18.8 kWh. There are other advantages, as well. The XC60 and S90 Recharges will now be capable of one-pedal driving, whereby regenerative braking is so strongly applied that the car effectively does most of the braking for you. This is already available on Volvo's fully electric models, and although it will initially be available only on the XC60 and S90, Volvo told Autoblog that the others will eventually get it. When exactly? Volvo did not elaborate.  Volvo says the increased battery capacity will improve performance in extreme cold and heat. It will also allow for pre-heating and pre-cooling the car, even when unplugged, without reducing all-electric range. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. First production Volvo P1800 stolen
Mon, 26 Aug 2013Want further proof that car thieves are the scum of the Earth? Some crooks in Sweden made off with a prized Volvo - the very first production P1800. The P1800, a two-door coupe, is a classic that's been growing in popularity over the years, thanks in no small part to its gorgeous sheetmetal.
This particular example, wearing chassis number two, wears red paint with a white interior. It was swiped from a locked storage facility in Stockholm, according to Hemmings, between August 21 and 22. The P1800 was owned by Mats Eriksson, vice president of the Swedish P1800 Club, who had given it a thorough restoration. Features to look out for on this particular car include the unique wheel covers shown in the gallery, and two different registration plates - C28000 and ACZ 780.
Larmtjänst AB, a non-profit that fights vehicle crimes in Sweden, is accepting any and all information pertaining from the theft. If you, or anyone you know, was in Stockholm on the night of the days of the theft or has seen a red P1800 in the Scandinavian region, head over to the Larmtjänst AB website to submit a tip.
