1991 Volvo 240 Base Wagon 4-door 2.3l on 2040-cars

My mother-in-law bought this car used, but had it thoroughly checked out before doing so. She drove it gently and treated it like a second child, babying it and making sure it always got the best of care by a mechanic who worked almost exclusively with Volvos. She fixed it up a great deal before gifting it to us, with the intent that it would last us at least a good 100,000 more miles. Unfortunately we have fallen on hard times and would like to sell the car.
It has a newly rebuilt engine which is very clean. It runs GREAT, is extremely reliable, the AC is like a glacier blowing at you and the heat is volcanic. They work wonderfully! The back seat folds down and the car runs like a dream. Every now and then, it may feel a little rough if it's been sitting for too long without being driven, but that clears up when you take it for a drive. The stereo, speakers and dome light don't work, and would need to be replaced. We didn't bother with that when we got it because it simply wasn't that important to us. It needs a few more things, which is why the price is marked down from $10,000.00 to $9,000.00. The main things it needs are tires, an alignment (the reason it needs tires), and an enclosure for a turn signal (got broken trying to get it out of the ice this past winter). It had a few small rust spots which have been treated so they will not continue to grow and create a problem, but it could use a little paint touch-up in those spots. |

Volvo's Geneva-bound concept wagon looks sexy in a raincoat
Fri, 21 Feb 2014Volvo is set to complete its concept car trilogy at the next month's Geneva Motor Show with the debut of its Concept Estate, the followup to its Concept Coupe from the Frankfurt Motor Show and Concept XC Coupe from the Detroit Auto Show. We've been looking forward to its Swiss debut, and now some teaser images of the Concept Estate have been uncovered... on the website of a raincoat seller?
Yes, Swedish raincoat maker Stutterheim has apparently been commissioned by Volvo to build a high-quality car cover for its Geneva concept, and the fabricator's website shows off some of the details of the long-roofed design study. From what we can see, it looks like the Concept Estate is more shooting brake than traditional wagon. Also, it's brown. So basically, Volvo has built the ultimate car for auto journalists.
Joking aside, the images show off more than a few of the design traits we've seen on Volvo's two previous concept cars. A wide, rectangular grille and lowercase-B-shaped taillights are both noticeable in these teasers, but we can't see much more than that.
Volvo Concept Estate gets official [w/video]
Thu, 27 Feb 2014The final chapter of Volvo's concept car trilogy has arrived after a few teasers earlier this week, as well as some recently leaked images, and as we so astutely summarized previously, it's a brown shooting brake. Really, we couldn't think of a better type of vehicle to follow up the Concept Coupe from the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Concept XC Coupe from the Detroit Auto Show and complete the Swedish trinity of concepts.
It's best to think of the Concept Estate as the hipper, classier cousin to the Concept Coupe. The two are virtually identical below the beltline, featuring front fascias that are indistinguishable from each other (except one is, you know, brown). Both cars wear wide, rectangular grilles inspired by classic Volvo models and T-shaped headlights Where the Concept Estate differs, obviously, is with its more functional rear end and longer roof.
That rear is accented by the Estate's wide haunches and slim, angular taillights, which borrow heavily from the units shown on the Concept XC Coupe. These two features work in tandem to present a wide, squat appearance from the rear. The profile, meanwhile, shows off that spacious greenhouse, which is made even airier by a glass roof.
Volvo celebrates 20 years of sleeper wagons with 850 T-5R and V60 Polestar
Mon, 10 Nov 2014I must have been around Bar Mitzvah age when I was in the back of my parents' car on the highway as we passed a truck full of Volvo 850 T-5R wagons - half of them in black, half in banana yellow. It was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen: a whole gaggle of sleeper power wagons that were infinitely cooler than whatever minivan we were riding in. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago, but it was. And Polestar is understandably keen to mark the anniversary of the first overt Volvo performance wagon.
While Volvo's racing partner hasn't released some commemorative edition to celebrate that prototypical sleeper, it has shot a special batch of photos of the T-5R (based on the 850 wagon internally known as the 855 for its five doors) alongside its modern successor, the V60 Polestar. The images shot in Huntington Beach, CA, only go to show how much has changed in the two decades that separate them.
Whereas this front-drive T-5R packed a turbocharged inline-five driving 240 horsepower through a four-speed automatic propel the yellow box to 62 in 7.0 seconds, the turbo six in the svelter, Rebel Blue-clad 2015 V60 Polestar churns out 350 hp to all four wheels through a six-speed auto for a 4.9-second sprint. That's the kind of progress we can get behind. In fact, it's the sort of progress that everyone can get behind, really, because chances are whatever you're driving will probably have a hard time keeping up.
