Sadly I must sell my Volvo 242. Two months ago, my wife of 20 years decided she didn't need me around anymore. I escaped with my Volvo and my clothes and drove to my brother's house here in Eastern Oregon. I now need a newer car for work purposes, so the Volvo is up for your consideration.
This Volvo was delivered new in Montana and has an engine block heater. I have lots of service records from the prior owners.
The Volvo is properly lowered on ipd springs, has GT strut plates, Koni adjustable shocks front and rear, stainless steel brakelines, ipd VX cam, H4 headlamps, ipd aluminum belly pan, Enki alloy wheels, Abarth-style exhaust system, and Hella driving lights (not hooked up but all parts are there.) Also, she has behind-the-grille roadlamps that are not hooked up either.
The sunroof works and does not leak, but occasionally needs a little push when closing. A new timing belt and accessory belts were installed in May of this year. Also, new front and rear seat covers were custom-made, with extra material in the trunk.
This car has no major rust issues. She does not get hot or burn or leak oil. She just made a 300+ mile trip with no issues. Recently the Volvo was repainted Irish Green. The original color was rust brown (ugh!).
The Volvo comes with an Alpine CDA-9856 CD player with MP3/Ipod connector. The overdrive works properly, the clutch is good. This is a daily driver that should provide many trouble-free miles. The only known issues are some poor quality repair on the driver's door, and the rear brake light connections work but need to be replaced. The speedometer is accurate, but the odometer seems to run slowly, so the mileage can't be relied on. Car comes with extra lenses, Haynes manual and miscellaneous pieces.
I hate seeing this car leave, but I have no choice. This would be a great graduation gift or a good drivable project car. It gets a thumbs-up where ever I take her. This car is 35 years old and will always need some TLC. The headliner is good with a small tear by the sunroof and there is some small tearing by the window crank on the driver's door panel. I will gladly answer any questions and will be happy to store the car until you can arrange transportation as long as its paid for in full. Clean, clear Oregon title with plates good until Sept. 2014. This is a very desirable car. Don't let it slip away. Thank you for looking.

When Android Automotive goes in the dash, Google wins — and automakers lose data
Tue, May 22 2018You've gotta hand it to Google for the way the Silicon Valley tech giant has made indelible inroads into the car on multiple fronts. The most obvious is with its pioneering self-driving car technology that's caused car companies to get their act together on autonomous vehicles — and also collaborate with Google. Google has more directly extended its influence and data-mining capabilities into the car with its Android Auto smartphone-projection platform that most major automakers have adopted along with Apple's CarPlay. And now it's preparing to dig even deeper into dashboards by deploying its open-source operating system, Android Automotive, beginning with Audi and Volvo. Volvo recently announced that its next-generation Sensus infotainment system will run Android Automotive as an OS and include Google's Play Store for cloud-based content, Maps for navigation and Google Assistant for voice recognition, which can even command a car's climate control. By embedding Google in the dash, Volvo says owners will get an improved connected experience. "Bringing Google services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services," Volvo senior vice president of R&D Henrik Green said in a statement. "Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps that make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable." Having Android Automotive onboard could benefit drivers — and provide a big win for Google, since it opens a deep and lucrative new data-mining vein for the company. But it's a wave of a white flag for car companies when it comes to delivering their own cloud-based content and services. It also represents a massive data giveaway and, for Audi, a reversal of earlier reservations about letting Google get too much access to car data. Not long after Android Auto and Apple CarPlay were introduced in 2014 and most automakers eagerly embraced the technologies, several German automakers second-guessed their decision when they realized what was at stake: data. At a conference in Berlin in 2015, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said car owners "want to be in control of their data, and not subject to monitoring." A few months earlier, Stadler stated that "the data that we collect is our data and not Google's.
2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E [w/video]
Tue, 08 Oct 2013The Swedes Bend Sixes And Fives Into Fours
With government agency pressures mounting, the auto industry's latest engine and powertrain trends invariably include the cobbling of heretofore eight-cylinder models into charged (either turbo- or super-) six-cylinder models, six-cylinders into charged four-cylinders and so on. And then there's the mating of these downsized engines to fuel-saving automatic transmissions with ratio counts previously reserved for bicycles and semi trucks. Volvo can at last follow suit with the best of Germany and Japan thanks in great part to an $11-billion multi-year investment by its Chinese owners, Geely.
After we survived the recent Frankfurt Motor Show marathon of news and reveals (chief among said bits being the stunning Volvo Concept Coupe), we were escorted by the Swedish automaker to the far less frenetic air of southern France to explore the most significant step yet in the company's new life. Volvo's entire movement of new tech is referred to as Drive-E, and it includes these all-new four-cylinder engines we just tested, a new modular architecture called Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that will first be found under the next-generation XC90, along with a host of other onboard advancements. Think of it as a Scandinavia's version of Mazda Skyactiv, a total-systems approach to developing more efficient yet more sporting new models.
See Volvo's integration of Apple CarPlay in action
Mon, 03 Mar 2014Apple unveiled its new CarPlay touchscreen infotainment system earlier today, and Volvo has just released a video showing the system in action. The Cupertino tech giant is expected to announce partnerships with Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz to license CarPlay, as well, at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and will be working with even more manufacturers in the future.
The system pairs the driver's iPhone with the car's infotainment system and seamlessly allows them use the smart phone's functions and, at least in Volvo's demonstration, the car's climate control and seat heating systems. According to the video, the new system will be available "in the coming generation Volvo cars," which likely means the upcoming, next-generation Volvo XC90.
However, the system will not work universally. Apple will add functionality through an update to iOS 7 in the future for the iPhone 5, 5C and 5S. At launch other devices won't be supported. Scroll down to watch CarPlay work. We are expecting more details to emerge on the new infotainment system when the Swiss show opens tomorrow.
