1972 Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback Belgium Beige Station Wagon Super Clean on 2040-cars
Atlanta, Georgia, United States
Up for sale is a 1972 Volkswagen Type 3 (III) Squareback. This car is super clean and drives as a California cruiser should!
History: The car recently came to Atlanta, Georgia from California. The car is absolutely RUST FREE and the body is super straight. All receipts of the car from the past 3 owners are included and list extensive history which dates back to 1988. Body: The car was recently painted on the exterior (pictures to prove) with original Belgium Beige and Standox Clear Coat. The Standox clear coat comes with a 30 year no fade warranty (from a renowned paint shop in Georgia, D&I Body Shop). Unfortunately, there is 1 dime size chip under the passenger pop out window and small scratch near the passenger window, (only visible to the super OCD). However, willing to get the car touched up. The floor pans and the rest of the body show that the car has been in a very dry environment for its entire life and has no signs of rust, holes, or leaks. The car/window seals are all new which prevents any water from getting in. New: All new glass seals, chrome, paint job, rebuilt transmission. The interior is in very good shape. The Good : the entire interior is super clean and nearly new. The seats are easy to adjust, the panels are in great condition, and the car handles as it should. This cruiser is completely stock - aside from the fuel injection engine being converted to Dual Carbs. It gives the extra power which allows you to shift up while driving up hill and comfortably drive 80 mph on the highway (the speedometer actually read 90!!! but def 10 mph off). Additionally, the VW drove from Atlanta,GA to Chattanooga,TN for the Bug-a-Puluza show and had no issues and handled the highway great. The car is tight, with no shakes, rattles, or stranger noises. The Bad: I haven't had a chance to mess with the turning signals which aren't currently working, although they light up when the lights are on. The odometer doesn't work (But the speedometer does), and the two small dime size chip/scratch in the paint. Willing to answer any additional questions or email any additional photos upon request. Don't let such a rust free and straight Squareback like this pass you by. There is no headache left with this Volkswagen, just pure fun! |

VW Golf R 400 reportedly green-lit (again)
Sun, Apr 26 2015After speaking to Volkswagen powertrain boss Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, we uncovered that the Volkswagen Golf R 400 would be sold in the United States... if it ever made it to production at all, that is. That prerequisite looks like it's about to be fulfilled, as the same good doctor that said the super-powered GTI would come to the US has confirmed to Car that development is currently underway. This follows up on reports from late 2014 that the 400-horsepower car would make production. "We have the Golf more sporty than ever before, since we soon will have the Golf R 400 – we will do this car," Neusser told Car. "We are in fact in development of it right now." That is, we think you'll agree, splendid news. Of course, it also begs the question of when the new car will arrive. According to Car, it'll be just "a few short months," indicating that the Frankfurt Motor Show will likely host the Golf R 400's debut later this year. Whether that proves correct, though, likely won't be clear until later this summer.
Volkswagen E-Co-Motion Concept brings electric mobility to the commercial set
Wed, 06 Mar 2013Volkswagen sees a future where the bulk of the world's freight is moved into city centers by train, then offloaded onto a fleet of smaller, light-duty commercial vehicles for final delivery. Those vehicles could wind up looking something like the company's E-Co-Motion Concept that debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The EV features a modular underfloor drive unit comprised of a battery, motor and gearbox that can be paired with any number of cab and body configurations to suit a buyer's needs, from a refrigerated box to a standard flat bed.
The E-Co-Motion Concept features a rear-mounted electric motor with 113 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. A standard 20 kWh battery pack provides a driving range of up to 62 miles, while 30 kWh and 40 kWh packs could deliver 93 and 124 miles of travel, respectively. Check out the press release below for more information.
VW and Renault end talks to develop affordable EV, sources say
Fri, May 17 2024PARIS/BERLIN – Volkswagen has walked away from talks with Renault to jointly develop an affordable electric version of the Twingo subcompact car, three sources familiar with the situation said, in a setback for the EU carmakers' efforts to fend off Chinese rivals. The collapse of negotiations could mean the German carmaker may have to go it alone in developing its own affordable EV. Renault will continue designing its electric Twingo, scheduled to hit the market in 2026. Both had hoped that sharing the work would cut costs that represent a key hurdle for European carmakers in the face of cheaper cars from China. Volkswagen broke off discussions mainly because Renault had wanted to build the car in one of its plants at a time when VW is seeking to fully utilize its European production network, one of the sources said. Ampere, Renault's EV operation overseeing the Twingo program, declined to comment. A spokesperson for Volkswagen also declined to comment on the talks between the companies but said that the German carmaker was still studying its options on cheap EVs. The companies "did not succeed in finding an agreement" after several months of negotiations, one of the sources said. Another source said that an agreement had been very close, but that VW walked away from the talks and has decided to develop its own car. The sources declined to be named because the talks are confidential. VW sources said a decision on the EV plan is expected within weeks. Thomas Schaefer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, has said he wants to launch a lower-priced EV by 2027. The second source said Renault would continue work on the Twingo without VW, but also remained open to other partners, for instance from the alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi. It is also a blow for Renault CEO Luca de Meo's hopes for greater cooperation between European carmakers against their Chinese competitors, akin to Airbus which has stakeholders and operations across European countries. The VW-Renault tie-up for the Twingo could have formed the "basis" of an Airbus for autos, the second source said. China's automakers, the world's top EV producers, are making fast inroads in the European market, pressuring incumbents like Renault and VW to cut costs and speed up the time it takes to bring a new model to market. European automakers are aiming to produce smaller EVs that sell below 20,000 euros ($21,686) to help them compete with Chinese brands like BYD.
