- Sunroof when you want that wind running through your hair. - Power windows just because in America we consider it inconvenient to hand roll our windows down. - V6 engine that will get your moving before you can even blink. - Trunk space so large you could easily fit your entire one bedroom apartment into... (trust me, i've done it.) - 6 disk changer for those of us who can't decide what we want to listen to on our ride home. - FM and AM radio as if the 6 disk changer wasn't enough. - A beautiful navy exterior that shines in the golden sun and carries no dents or dings. - A mere 90,000 miles. The bottom line: my boss bought me a new 2010 Acura and this baby is waiting to be driven. The Passat is featured in Bourne Supremacy, one of the greatest action movies of all times because, well, it is one of the greatest cars of all times. It has been well maintained with regular oil changes, new head gaskets, new serpentine belt, transmission servicing, new torque converter. We have papers on all of the work we have had done on it. What you need to do: 1) negotiate a price with me to get this car in your driveway. 2) replace the motor mounts. 3) realize that the minor cosmetic issues (glove compartment handle fell off and wood paneling around the radio peeled off... we have both of those if you want to fix it yourself) are a non-issue when comparing the awesomeness of this car in general. |

2013 Volkswagen GTI Driver's Edition brings exclusivity to the granddaddy of hot hatches
Thu, 07 Feb 2013The Volkswagen booth at this year's Chicago Auto Show was filled with various special edition models of the Beetle and GTI. In addition to the GTI Wolfsburg Edition, the Volkswagen GTI Driver's Edition helps to wrap up the 2013 model year as VW readies the all-new MkVII Golf next year.
Only 3,000 of the GTI Driver's Edition models will be produced in four-door body style only, and the available color palette will be limited to just Candy White, Carbon Steel Gray and Deep Black. The package will come standard with the GTI's Sunroof and Navigation package, and it will add unique features such as the 18-inch "Laguna" wheels, a golf-ball shift knob, partial leather seats and red-stitching on the carpeted floor mats. Buyers of this package will also get a certificate of authenticity and some GTI swag such as a hat, keychain and parking sign.
Starting price for the 2013 Volkswagen GTI Driver's Edition is $29,695 with the six-speed manual and $30,795 if you choose the DSG - both prices exclude destination charges.
VW using other manufacturing locations as leverage in battle with TN [w/video]
Sat, 26 Apr 2014We've reached a new step in the ongoing drama at Volkswagen's factory in Chattanooga, TN. The United Auto Workers recently dropped its opposition to the union vote and agreed that it wouldn't hold another ballot for at least a year. Now, the new question becomes where VW is going to build its forthcoming midsize SUV.
Earlier, it had been considered all but certain that the SUV, likely a production version of the CrossBlue concept (pictured above), would be built in Tennessee. However, it seems the Chattanooga factory might have competition to produce it. In emails obtained by The Detroit News, VW's lawyer wrote to the Tennessee economic development department in January saying, "While we understand there are some 'non-deal' issues that are causing a delay in the TN solution, VW has been successful in reaching agreement on terms at the alternative locations."
As previously reported, the state of Tennessee allegedly offered VW about $300 million in incentives to build the vehicle there and create an estimated 1,350 jobs, but it later rescinded the deal. Newly leaked documents from NewsChannel 5 (WTVF-TV) in Nashville allegedly show just how close that offer was to being completed. It appears that VW actually sent the government the first draft of a memorandum of understanding agreeing to the incentives, but the state removed the offer in late January.
VW pondering low-cost sub-brand for China?
Wed, 30 Jan 2013More detail is being sketched into the Volkswagen Group's plan to launch a low-cost brand for emerging markets. Late last year a German report quoted a VW rep saying that the brand has been interested in building a no-frills car, the kind that would challenge Dacia and Datsun, for a while. With both Proton and Suzuki effectively out of the partnership picture, a report in Reuters suggests VW could go straight to China, developing a car with its joint venture partners and building and selling it there.
Officially, company CEO Martin Winterkorn said the issue of a model for emerging markets would be decided this year but VW isn't any closer to confirming any kind of plan for a car in its portfolio underneath the Up!, remarking to Reuters about the China possibility, "That's an issue we're currently looking at."
