2011 Volkswagen Vw Jetta Tdi Wagon - 3 Year Factory Warranty 10/2016 on 2040-cars
Westport, Connecticut, United States
2011 Volkswagen VW Jetta TDI Wagon– Glass Roof - Extended
Warranty Up for auction is my 76 year old mom’s VW Jetta Turbo
Diesel Wagon (Black on Black) with the Panorama Glass Roof. The story of this car really is the
proverbial old lady driving it very carefully and slowly. She and my dad bought it new, and since my
dad passed, she is consolidating vehicles down to a single SUV since she needs
a car that is great in the snow. This
car is garage kept and has approximately 27,300 miles. In addition to the cleanliness of the car, my mom and dad
also took the car to the dealer for every milestone service. So the car has all documents regarding
service and maintenance. In addition to
the factory 3 year warranty, they purchased an additional 3-year warranty which
is the Fidelity Platinum package – Yes this is in fact the authorized VW
factory warranty. There are other
warranty providers out there but Fidelity is the VW primary factory authorized
warranty provider. The car and the
extended warranty were purchased October 22, 2010 and it has the 6 Year 72,000
mile extended warranty which covers through 10/22/2016 or 72,000 miles. The cost of this warranty was $1,732. It has 2.5 years left. The value of this warranty with 2.5 years
left is $1,443. And if you were to buy a
similar VW privately without the warranty, you could not add the Fidelity
warranty.
The pro rated value of the warranty is being added to the
Average Kelly Blue Book value and the NADA value to arrive at a Buy It Now
Price.
According to NADA, the value of this car is as follows: Clean Trade-in $20,025 and Clean Retail is $22,875 –
Average is $21,450 According to KBB the value of this car is as follows: Excellent condition Trade In is $19,317 and Excellent condition
private party sale is $21,017 – Average is $20,167 The Buy It Now Price is the average of the 2 averages
above ($20,808), plus $1,443 for the prorated extended warranty. So, the price
to take it today is $22,251. I’ve set
the reserve a little under that, but this is a fair deal by all standards, and
it’s a very lightly used and well maintained TDI.
There are a couple of scratches on the wheels but nothing
major, there are also some light scratches on the rear bumper which have been
photographed up close. They would likely
buff out but I can’t promise that. The
car is black on black and there are no flaws on the interior anywhere. There are also no dings anywhere. It has blue tooth and heated front seats that
work great. We went overboard with
photos to make it as absolutely clear as possible. She is fine from top to bottom and front to
back. |

VW pondering low-cost sub-brand for China?
Wed, 30 Jan 2013More detail is being sketched into the Volkswagen Group's plan to launch a low-cost brand for emerging markets. Late last year a German report quoted a VW rep saying that the brand has been interested in building a no-frills car, the kind that would challenge Dacia and Datsun, for a while. With both Proton and Suzuki effectively out of the partnership picture, a report in Reuters suggests VW could go straight to China, developing a car with its joint venture partners and building and selling it there.
Officially, company CEO Martin Winterkorn said the issue of a model for emerging markets would be decided this year but VW isn't any closer to confirming any kind of plan for a car in its portfolio underneath the Up!, remarking to Reuters about the China possibility, "That's an issue we're currently looking at."
2015 Volkswagen Touareg TDI Quick Spin [w/video]
Thu, Jul 9 2015There are two particularly great things about diesel-powered cars: torque and range. The 2015 Volkswagen Touareg TDI has both in spades. We put 190 miles on our test car, and upon return, the computer claimed we still had 490 miles to go. We weren't even averaging the EPA-estimaged 29 miles per gallon highway. Plus, that's in a sport-utility vehicle with tons of room and a whopping 406 pound-feet of torque. That said, our most recent adventure with the Touareg wasn't totally positive. This thing feels decidedly long in the tooth, despite a 2014 refresh. Driving Notes The Touareg TDI's powertrain really is the star of the show. The 3.0-liter, turbodiesel V6 has been in service since 2009, but it's still a dynamite engine. With 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which can be called upon at just 2,000 rpm, there's no shortage of thrust under your right foot. Turbo lag is an issue when you get aggressive with the throttle, but don't drive like a boob and you'll be fine. ZF's critically acclaimed eight-speed automatic delivers that power to all four wheels. But where other ZF-equipped vehicles deliver a crisper, sharper character, the TDI's trans is tuned for a far more relaxed driving experience. Upshifts are leisurely; the eight-speed keeps you right in the thick of the Touareg's broad torque curve. The suspension tuning follows a similar philosophy. It's far more comfortable than dynamic, soaking up all manner of bumps and general imperfections with aplomb. That said, the Touareg does not feel floaty or disconnected – just smooth. The greasy bits of the Touareg are very desirable, but the package they're wrapped in is less so. It's not that the interior or exterior designs are necessarily bad – fans of Earth tones will love our tester's Black Oak Brown Metallic paint and Cornsilk Beige interior – they're just kind of bland, or anonymous. The switchgear and buttons come from the Volkswagen parts bin, and while they're fine on a $20,000 Golf, these pieces aren't as appropriate in a vehicle that starts at more than twice the price. The dash plastics and faux wood don't look as nice as what's inside an Acura MDX, or even a Jeep Grand Cherokee. This mid-level Touareg TDI Lux starts at $57,580.
In wake of Volkswagen scandal, cheating may actually get easier
Thu, Sep 24 2015The three crises that rollicked the auto industry in recent months – a rising death toll related to the General Motors ignition-switch defect, the Jeep Cherokee hack and now the Volkswagen cheating scandal – all have one thing in common. Outsiders discovered the problems. In the new matter of Volkswagen rigging millions of cars to outsmart emissions tests, researchers at West Virginia University and the International Council on Clean Transportation first spotted irregularities. In the hacking of a Jeep Cherokee, it was independent cyber-security researchers Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller who found and reported cellular vulnerabilities that allowed them to control a car from halfway across the country. And lest we forget in the case of General Motors, it was a Mississippi mechanic and Florida engineer who first made connections between non-deploying airbags and faulty GM ignition switches that had been altered over time. They worked on behalf of Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old Georgia woman killed in a Chevy Cobalt. "That argument is built on a whole string of trusts, and now it is clear that we should absolutely not be trusting." - Kyle Wiens Amid the Volkswagen scandal, the role these independent third parties played in unearthing life-threatening problems is important to highlight, not only because it shines a light on the ethical indifference corporations paid to life-and-death problems of their creation. The role of the independents is noteworthy because, just as their contributions never been more relevant in protecting the driving public, they could soon be barred from the automotive landscape. Since May, a little-known but critically important process has been playing out before an office within the Library of Congress, which will soon decide whether independent researchers and mechanics can continue to access vehicle software or whether that software, which runs dozens of vehicle components, is protected by copyright law. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act criminalizes measures taken to circumvent security devices that protect copyrighted works. When the DMCA was signed into law in 1998, it was intended to protect the likes of movies from being pirated and companies from ripping off software. At the time, few had a clue that some 17 years later cars would essentially be mobile software platforms run by millions of lines of code that potentially fall under the law's jurisdiction.
