THE BASICS: Up for sale I have a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. I have a clean Ohio title in hand. I am the second owner. I bought it about three years ago from a woman outside Pittsburgh with about 160k on it. I put an additional 75k on it. There has been over $6,000 put into the car in the last year as listed below. I would like to get something near that for it. The car runs great, no leaks or burning oil or anything like that. When I had the head done, the mechanic inspected the vehicle very well to make sure it was worth putting a few thousand into and he was sure it was worth it.

Work Done Recently: It has a NEW - not rebuilt - Head (with warranty) and timing belt along with associated head gasket, water pump, intake manifold cleaning, coolant flush, power steering fluid flush, transmission fluid flush, air filter etc about five months and 8k miles ago. He used the best parts in all that work. In the last year it had a new alternator with associated pulleys and belts, brakes all around (done this month along with bleeding), two new rotors, two new hubs, three new hub bearings, trunk latch, antenna, windshield, wiper transmission, oil filter cap, tie rod, drive belt, fuel filter and probably a few other little things as well. I had a new battery put in just over a year ago. The work was done at a specialty foreign shop near Pittsburgh that specializes in TDI's. I have receipts for this work. It has always had synthetic oil run in it. The transmission fluid was changed along with the coolant when the head was done. I always ran full synthetic in it since I got it with 140k on it. The lady I bought it from always had it serviced at Kings VW in New Castle PA and when they closed, at Day VW in Pittsburgh and also had full synthetic in it.

The Bad: There are two things I need to do to it still. The ABS light is on because I cracked the sensor when doing the brakes a couple weeks ago, and as you know, those are really tough to get out ($50 part, but I just need time to do it). It also needs two new plugs and a new harness to get the engine light off. I am going to just replace all four plugs though while I'm at it. The body has some light surface rust but nothing major. The front fenders were replaced and look great.

Overall:  The car runs great!  It always starts right up for me, even on the coldest NE Ohio mornings.  There have been some mornings it was down around 0 degrees and the glow plugs really did their job.  It started right up.  It shifts smooth.  All the options work great (sunroof, heated seats and mirrors etc)  The only think I am not sure on is the cassette player because I don't have any tapes to try on it.  The mileage is amazing still.  When the head was replace the mechanic adjusted the timing a little bit and it gets around 48 MPG highway.  If I drive a mixture of highway and town I generally get 40 mpg.  The body is pretty clean.  There is some light surface rust and a little smooth dent where there was a bike holder on the roof and a little bit of touchup work done.  There are no huge dents or rust throughs or anything like that.  It is nice as you can see from the picture.  The interior is nice as well.  The vinyl and plastic are in good shape with just normal wear.  There are no cracks or rips or major stains.

Features: This car has two extra 5 spoke alloy matching wheels. It has lots of options like the power sunroof, heated seats and mirrors, power windows, locks and mirrors, 6 disc changer with cassette, automatic, alloy wheels, ABS. All the options work perfect still (except I'm not sure about the cassette tape, I don't have any tapes to test it!) The A/C blows ice cold and the heat is toasty warm.

Roundup: I have over $6,000 invested in it the last year. Hoping to get close to what I have in to it in that time. I got a different job and am in the office now instead of on the road, so I am getting a bigger car. That is why I am selling it.

CALL or TEXT me at 330-550-6785 with any questions, to see it or for pics etc. Make me an offer. Thanks!

Europeans get first crack at new Golf Variant wagon

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Just last week, when we brought you news of a new Volkswagen Golf variant out and testing in Europe, we had no idea we were being so literal with out description. For it seems that VW has every intention of calling its new Golf wagon, making its Geneva debut, the "Golf Variant."
Odd/interesting sobriquets taken as read then, there's a lot to like about this new small wagon from VW. The Variant will shed some 232 pounds in this generation, and will come to market with two efficient TDI engines. Volkswagen isn't giving us displacement figures for either yet, but we're told the diesels will come with outputs of 110 and 150 horsepower. The 110-hp TDI BlueMotion Varient will be good for a whopping 71.3 miles per gallon on the European cycle, when mated to the six-speed manual transmission.
The German automaker has brought along an all-wheel-drive 4Motion version of the Gold Variant to bow in Geneva, as well, and a natural gas-burning TGI BlueMotion is said to be "in the pipeline."

VW redoes A-ha's 'Take On Me' music video

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Volkswagen has been responsible for its fair share of witty, clever commercials. "Tiny Vader" might be the most popular, but somehow, we think this newest spot will find a big audience. VW delivers not so much a cover, but a reimagining, of 1980s Norwegian pop band A-ha's famous music video for "Take On Me."
The original opens with an animated motorcycle race, which is revealed to be part of a comic book. VW's version replaces the motorcycle with a Passat, which strikes us as an oddly sober choice when there are cars like the GTI and Beetle in VW's portfolio. But never mind that - take a look down below for the entire 46-second spot. For reference, we've also included the original music video. And if you aren't a fan of the musical stylings of A-ha, just think, VW's choice of 1980s music could have been much worse.

Carlex Criollo is a Volkswagen Multivan shrine to Alcantara, leather and... fish

Wed, 10 Jul 2013

A keen angler recently went to Polish tuner Carlex Design (the same folks who did that steampunk Mini Countryman a while back) for a revamp of his Volkswagen Multivan. What resulted is perhaps the most striking - yet fishing-unfriendly - interior we've ever seen in a van. Below the shoulder line, if a surface isn't covered in cross-stitched Alcantara, then it's covered in cross-stitched leather. Even the steering wheel airbag boss. And the seat supports. And the cupholders.
The brown hue of the Multivan's interior is called Criollo, named for an especially fine specimen of cocoa. The finishing touch on the overhaul is a fileting knife that Carlex made for the owner. We imagine he'll use the knife for the marine life, but keep his van far away from it.
