2000 VW GTI GLX VR6 FWD two door w/ 5sp manual transmission, Clean title in hand

This car has been relegated to weekend use (VW events) and is rarely taken out of the garage since we have owned it in 2008. That being said, the car could be driven across the country today with absolutely no problems.

Rare Tropic Orange original factory color (never painted) in great shape with deep shine.  Black leather interior.  The tropic orange is the most sought after color from this generation as only a couple hundred were sold in the U.S.

Minor mods include Bilstein sport suspension, P-flow air intake, and aftermarket exhaust (very tasteful sounding, deep and throaty and quiet under low RPMs)

Original owners used the car as a commuter and put on 190K miles up until 2008 when our family bought it. It has been garage kept since 2008 and for all 6 years and we have only put on 16K miles since 2008.

Options

Has every factory option offered in 2000:

Heated front seats that work great, Monsoon Audio w/Compact Disc Changer, Metallic paint, full leather interior, power moonroof, keyless entry, 4-wheel ABS, power windows/locks, ice cold A/C.

Overall Condition

This GTI was used as a commuter car and has highway miles for most of its life.  The past 6 years it has been garaged.  Although I take it around to VW events, it is not a show car.  The car could be driven across country tomorrow and looks pretty good considering the miles/age, but there are some minor imperfections here and there that would be expected (as outlined below).

Exterior

Original paint, no accidents or work has ever been done to any part of the metal body, straight as an arrow on every panel. The VIN numbers match everywhere.  The paint on the body is original and still has a rich shine to it.  Other than typical rock chips near the front of the hood or a light scratch seen under direct sunlight, the exterior is pretty good for an original. The front plastic valence/bumper cover does have some imperfections that were touched up (not professionally). There are some imperfections on the rear trim plastic handle piece for the hatch that were touched up as well.  Also, there are no rust issues with this car and never have been any rust issues.

Interior

The interior of the car is all original and in great shape with the original factory Monsoon sound system and head unit/CD changer.   The rear seats have almost zero usage throughout the cars life (no damage or tears).  The leather on the drivers seat is structurally perfect other than 1 small split (about an inch) on the upper left bolster from getting in and out and one small split on the side of the passenger bolster (bolsters on both sport seats are firm and feel snug and the small splits are hard to notice unless looking for them).  The carpet is clean and the mats are VW rubber floor mats.  The dash is in great shape with no cracks and the trunk area is also in good shape.  The car comes with a full size spare wheel, fold up toolkit, lift jack, and owners manual.

Mechanical

Approximately $7000 in mechanical work has been put into this car over the past 45K miles with a complete overhaul done at around 160K as outlined below.

The original owner had the car serviced at Jim Wynn VW in Norristown its entire life and had a spreadsheet with all work done including every oil change at 3-4K miles so it was in good hands at the dealer.

The car currently has 206K miles (less than 15K miles/year) and the original VR6 motor pulls very strong and shows no signs of aging. These motors are known to be bulletproof if maintained properly.  The A/C blows ice cold.  All relevant maintenance such as timing chain tensioners, accessory belts, and waterpump were done since 160K with a full list below:

Since 165K miles:

New transmission and clutch

New A/C compressor/condensor

New water pump

New coolant hoses

New timing chain guides
New timing chain tensioners

Bilstein suspension

New front axles/cv joints

New serpentine belt

New exhaust

New Front/rear brakes and rotors

New Fuel pump

Tires have about 70% treadlife remaining

Since 200K:

New battery last winter (2/14)

New coil packs
New Bosch mass air flow sensor  (2014)
New rear wheel bearings
New bearing hubs and abs rings
New bearing spindle hubs

All fluids and general tune-up items done.

Many other different random parts such as bushings etc.

Needs:

The car will need front strut bushings immediately as they have pretty much worn through and make going over bumps a little noisy.  I bought these for state inspection but never had them installed as my wife is on me to sell my toys for home renovations as we have just moved into a new house.

EU formally questions French government assistance of Peugeot's finance arm

Fri, 28 Dec 2012

Recently, the finance arm of PSA/Peugeot-Citroën was in such debt trouble that it was pricing itself out of the car loan market. The rates it was paying to service its debt, which was rated one step above junk, were so high that it was forced to charge car-buying customers higher rates than they could find elsewhere. This was adding to Peugeot's already impressive woes by sending revenue out the door to competitors.
Two months ago a deal was worked out with the French government whereby the state would provide 7 billion euro ($9 billion USD) in bonds to guarantee the finance arm's loans. The French government could nominate someone to join the Peugeot board, Peugeot would guarantee more French jobs, and on top of that deal, other banks would provide non-guaranteed loans. The government would take no equity stake in the car company.
Although not yet finalized, the arrangement is meant to create some breathing room for Peugeot Finance to lower its interest rates for customers, and a government-nominated board member, Louis Gallois, was recently named to Peugeot's supervisory board. The arrangement was also openly questioned by at least three competitors: Ford, Renault - which is 15-percent owned by the French government after it received state aid - and the German state of Lower Saxony, itself a 15-percent shareholder in Volkswagen.

US-spec 2015 Volkswagen Golf and GTI to finally debut in New York

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf is hardly new to us. In fact, we've already driven it. And elsewhere in the world, the new Golf is already winning awards. Even so, we still have yet to see the US-spec version of the car, though that won't be the case much longer. As part of the New York Auto Show festivities later this month, Volkswagen will finally show off the 2015 Golf models destined for our shores.
Three different versions of the Golf will debut under the lights of New York City's Javits Center: the turbocharged TSI, oil-sipping TDI and hotter GTI. The first model in that list uses Volkswagen's new 1.8-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, replacing the outgoing 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline five-cylinder. The latter two models use familiar engines: the 2.0-liter TDI diesel and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, respectively.
Even though the new Golf officially debuts later this month, it won't go on sale in the US until the first quarter of 2014. We'll be waiting patiently.

VW readying CC Shooting Brake?

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

This was bound to happen. Volkswagen's relentless drive for big volume has the brand mining seemingly every niche it can find for additional sales worldwide. And with its CLS Shooting Brake, fellow countryman Mercedes-Benz has already shown that a wagon based off of a "four-door coupe" can look dead sexy and command extra dollars. So it follows that the Volkswagen CC (whose existence is all but directly attributable to the success of the original CLS sedan) will also get a load-lugging variant. That's according to the UK's Autocar, which notes that the five-door will come in the CC's next generation.
According to the report, the next CC will be available in front and all-wheel drive variants with the usual assortment of gas and diesel four-cylinders found in the Wolfsburg empire, with the possibility of a gas plug-in hybrid model, too. The rakish estate will ride atop VW's MQB architecture, a shorter variant of which is also found underneath the new Golf. The scalable chassis is set to spread like kudzu throughout the company's lineup, but the CC probably won't happen until after the launch of the next European-market Passat in 2015.
Will we get it in North America? Hard to say. Volkswagen sells the standard CC saloon here, but not in particularly large numbers, and when the company moved to a North American-specific Passat, it dumped the wagon variant. The traditional VW estate apparently continues to pick up sales momentum abroad, however, making the CC Shooting Brake a seemingly natural fit for buyers who still want the utility of a two-box form but can afford to sacrifice a bit of cargo room in the name of style.
