Vw Type 2 Westfalia Camper From Arizona on 2040-cars
Akron, Ohio, United States
| This is a very solid VW camper, originally purchased in Florida, then moved several years ago to Arizona. It sat for several years until I bought it to use for family trips. No longer used so time for it to go to another happy home. Very solid body, frame, and interior. Have taken interior out to refurbish but never got around to it. It will obviously be included in sale. This consists of : Cabinet containing the propane stove (fuel tank is mounted under the body) Refrigerator that runs off of propane, 12 volts DC, or 110 volt AC Sink with faucet Two high back bucket seats ( low back seats are mounted in bus currently) Middle back seat Rear seat that folds to make into a bed for two adults Two cots for the children that mount just below the ceiling shirt closet storage for pots and pans underseat storage with two speakers mounted pop up top with decent canvas rear screen so you can leave door open and not get eaten alive by bugs crank out side windows for ventilation air conditioning condenser with drip catcher twin blowers to blow the cool air around assorted bits and pieces to make staying inside more enjoyable Runs and stops well. Doesn't seem to wander going down the road. The drivers door window glass is missing but I will include a complete, solid door with class and regulator in it. Needs one tire that won't hold air. No spare but have rim for one. Why spend this much for a rusted bucket when you can get this one, add a little tlc and start enjoying the summer while you do what you want to make it your own? You must arrange your own shipping, but just shipped it from Arizona and it was $775 to Ohio. Or you can come and pick it up yourself.  Check out the pictures and decide. This is one solid bus and you will be pleasantly surprised. $1000 due at close of auction, remainder on or before pickup |

MindDrive cruises California with 1972 Karmann Ghia EV
Thu, Jun 26 2014If you need a bit of inspirational EV goodness, spend some time watching the collection of videos we've got for you from Minddrive. Minddrive, as you might remember, is the education mentorship program that "uses real-world issues of our times to teach urban students critical thinking, creativity, entrepreneurship and how to improve their future by expanding their vision for themselves." The focus was on a fully restored 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. Well, restored and converted to electric power. The students previously worked on the Lola EV but this year the focus was on a fully restored 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. Well, restored and then converted to electric power. In early June, almost 50 Minddrive students and mentors flew from Kansas City to California to visit the epicenter of electric vehicles in the US on something called the "Raise Your Hand Tour." Filmmakers Mark Honer and Kelly Creech from DHTV Digital were along for the ride. The videos below show the students flying from to Oakland, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, presenting the Karmann Ghia at the California Academy of Sciences and then visiting the Monterey Bay EV Club, Google, Twitter and Telsa. All of this EV engagement apparently worked. One of the students, identified only as Xavier, wrote a poem and essay about what the electric vehicle project meant to him. Here's a tease: "Minddrive has honestly opened my eyes to sights and things I would have never thought possible. I have finally found the right path to follow." Read the whole thing below, after the videos. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. This content is hosted by a third party. I used to think that I would never be able to achieve to a greater rank. Always thought that power was given to people with a big bank. Never could imagine that my life would be amazing. Felt that my whole existence was around the weed blazing.
TRANSLOGIC 150: Volkswagen XL1
Mon, Feb 24 2014How do you build the world's most fuel-efficient production car? Start with the world's most aerodynamic design. The Volkswagen XL1 is capable of 261 miles per gallon thanks to its sleek shape and ultra efficient plug-in diesel hybrid powertrain. The downside is that only 250 will be made and none will be sold stateside. That didn't stop us from taking our turn behind the wheel of this truly revolutionary ride.
10 automakers sued over keyless ignitions
Thu, Aug 27 2015Keyless ignition has rapidly proliferated throughout the auto industry to become a fairly normal feature on new cars. It's supposed to offer the convenience of keeping the fob in your pocket and just pressing a button to drive away. However, ten major automakers are now being sued in US District Court over claims that the system is dangerous, Reuters reports. The suit alleges that people are forgetting to shut off the engine, and the lack of an idle timer is the cause for 13 deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and multiple injuries. The suit currently includes 28 plaintiffs, according to Reuters, but the lawyers are asking for class-action status to potentially add many more. The case goes after a major swath of the industry, including BMW, Daimler, FCA, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen, plus their related brands like Acura, Infiniti, Mini, and Lexus. In all, over five million vehicles are affected. The assertion here is that people walk away from their vehicle without shutting it off because they believe the engine shuts off automatically. If parked in a garage, carbon monoxide can build up, leading to poisoning. The lawyers claim automakers know this is a problem and also cite 27 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue, according to Reuters. The plaintiffs are asking for an automatic shut-off and damages from the companies. These concerns have come up before, though. Toyota previously faced a lawsuit over a carbon monoxide death after a woman accidentally left her Lexus running. Also earlier this year, GM recalled 64,186 examples of the 2011-2013 Chevrolet Volt because owners weren't shutting them off. The problem resulted in two injuries, and the company released a software update to limit the idling time.
