Up for bid is a very nice 1976 VW Westfalia camper bus, in advanced state of restauration. This bus has been in the same hands for 22 years and was re-painted 7 years ago. Most window rubber was replaced at that time. It's a very presentable above average paint-job. The project stalled due to not enough time, too many vehicles. (it belongs to a classic car collector in Riverside. CA) It has been stored inside since he bought it in 1991. Title is clear and non-op so no back fees. Licence plate says "4AIR523" which is cool. The bus starts right up even after sitting for a long time and drives well. It does not overheat or pop out of gear. However, when shifting gears the linkage makes a scraping noise as if it touches something. Blinkers are not hooked up yet. Headlights work fine. As can be seen in the photo's this bus needs finishing. Tires are near new. The only rust I found are the small dime-size spots in the floor boards. And of course a new plate has been installed for the battery tray. Rockers, dog-legs and under carriage are rust free. This is a solid California bus that will bring a lot of money when finished. Install a new canvas top and some new door panels, a closet door which is missing, the wrap-arounds for the seats and a floor-mat for the cabin and you're pretty much there. (this is what I will do if the reserve isn't met) International buyers welcome, shipping to CFR in Paramount (A shipping company) is $300. An estimate on shipping to Europe, which I can arrange at no extra cost, is about $1590. A non- refundable deposit of $250 is required within 7 days of the auction ending. Zero or low feedback bidders please contact me prior to bidding or your bids will be canceled. No warranties sale is final. Please inspect the bus in person when in doubt or ask for more photo's which I can provide (of the under carriage which is rust-free) Happy bidding!

Mercedes, Nissan and VW slammed by China's CCTV

Tue, Mar 17 2015

Several automakers in China, including joint ventures with Nissan, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, are in hot water because their dealers are allegedly overcharging customers for repairs. China Central Television, the country's state broadcaster, leveled the claims during its annual Consumer Day expose. CCTV runs these reports each year on March 15 and often takes aim at foreign companies operating within China. This year the focus fell on automakers, according to the Financial Times, and no domestic car companies were targeted. The network also accused dealers of overselling parts, and it took aim at Jaguar Land Rover specifically for problems surrounding transmission repairs, according to Reuters. The yearly stories are often criticized for focusing on outside businesses. "It panders to a certain type of nationalism as it tends to target foreign companies and rarely touches large state groups or monopolies," Qiao Mu, a journalism professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, said to the Financial Times. Foreign automakers seem to face tighter scrutiny when doing business in China than their domestic counterparts, in general. The government there investigated several luxury brands, including Audi and BMW, last year for how they supplied spare parts and whether the components were overpriced. Some incurred fines, and Lexus decided to lower its prices. Volkswagen also experienced protests when owners felt the company wasn't handling a recall properly. The CCTV report also comes as many auto dealers in China are feeling a pinch due to high mandated sales targets from automakers. The situation was so dire in early 2015 several brands cut back sales targets and in some cases even paid the sellers to offset poor profits. Skoda Octavia vRS is just the thing for your pumped-up neighborhood

Fri, 26 Jul 2013

Skoda, oh Skoda. You're just so cool. Maybe it's the fact that it's a brand that we don't get in these United States, but Skoda's rebadged Volkswagens, in particular the new Octavia vRS shown here, are just different enough from the hum-drum VWs on our shores that the Czech brand seems strangely desirable. Maybe we're just craving forbidden fruit.
This short, minute-long spot covers the new vRS in a world of excess, where strollers ride on 26-inch wheels, lawnmowers feature V8 engines and ice cream cones are the size of toddlers. As things often go in these ads, the Octavia vRS draws the eyes of passerby that are seemingly use to things far more ridiculous than a reasonably priced Czech sedan. In reality, the Octavia should be fairly familiar to American buyers. It uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-pot found in the Volkswagen GTI and Jetta GLI, with 217 horsepower, and sits on the same platform as the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. Take a look at the full spot, below.

German carmakers recall 630,000 diesel vehicles in Europe

Fri, Apr 22 2016

Mercedes, Opel, Porsche, and Volkswagen will recall over 630,000 cars in Europe, according to reports Friday. No diesel car has been able to get under the legal emissions limit in real-world driving, according to a German government investigation. While only Volkswagen Group has been using a specific "defeat device", other carmakers have been playing with their exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems. Depending of the manufacturer, the systems have been cut off at a certain temperature. In a specific test cycle the systems operate to fulfill the legal requirements, but in everyday use the limits are exceeded. According to the magazine Der Spiegel, the supplier Bosch is behind this programming and has provided it to all German automakers. The mentioned carmakers have announced recalls, but many other manufacturers are also mentioned by name in the report, including Alfa Romeo, Chevrolet, Dacia, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Nissan, Renault, and Suzuki. PSA Group, which produces Peugeot, Citroen, and DS cars, declared yesterday that its offices were raided following an emissions investigation.
