1965 11-window Vw Microbus on 2040-cars
Yreka, California, United States

I have owned this 1965 VW microbus since 1973. I purchased it in Southern California. At the time of purchase vehicle mileage was 98, 822 miles. Chassis VIN# is 225026475 and engine # is H0540325 (at time of purchase). Since 1980 it has been parked inside my garage. Since 2006 this bus has been registered as inoperable with the California DMV. It is now registered as operable and drivable. I have rebuilt the engine twice (1974 & 1986) and installed a rebuilt transmission in 1979. During the first engine rebuild I cut an access window into the engine compartment (see photos) to make working on the engine easier. Over time I have installed an external oil cooler, external oil filter, electric fuel pump, a 019 distributor and a 12v alternator and new front floor mat. I replaced the original gas tank with a 16 gal tank. I have replaced the reduction boxes bearings. In 1974 I cut a walk way through the bulkhead behind the front seats to have better access to the inside of the bus for camping purposes. In 2013, I repaired this damage with a replacement bulkhead that I riveted to the existing bulkhead pieces (see photos). I planned on restoring this bus but my funds slowly were used for home improvement projects. I have decided to sell my bus to someone who hopefully will restore it to its former glory. I have kept a maintenance diary of all the work I have done on this vehicle from 1973 to 2014. The picture of the front of the bus shows primer where I welded closed the holes that held the spare tire holder. I have taken numerous pictures of before and after for just about all the restoration work I have done. I repaired 2 areas on the cargo floor (where seats bolt to floor). Most of the outside primer areas are where I sanded out deep gouges in the paint, removed rust, reworked old body filler areas (4 small accident damage areas) with new body filler. I have lots of the old parts (009 distributor, Solex 30PICT 1 carburetor, mechanical fuel pump, 2 hub caps, 2 side vent scoops, misc nuts and bolts. New parts not installed on vehicle include a clutch cable, a battery floor plate and cargo door rubber stopper. I have not been able to loosen the rear wheel hub nuts. I have original copy of my first California registration card dated 9/1/1973. This vehicle is sold as is. |

Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Impala bi-fuel sales; VW e-Up fire
Tue, Dec 15 2015Chevrolet has delivered about 200 units of its bi-fuel Impala so far. The automaker originally planned to begin sales in summer of 2014, but was delayed over a year due to quality concerns. Now, the bi-fuel Impala, which runs on both gasoline and CNG, has begun delivery, mostly to commercial and fleet customers. The car begins at $38,210 (including destination charges), and will be available at 3,200 US dealerships. Production of a 2016 model is underway. Read more at Green Car Reports. The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced $35 million in funding for hydrogen and fuel cell technology projects. The money will support research and development, manufacturing, and early deployment of the technologies. The DOE also wants to bring together consortia to work together on fuel cell cost, performance, and durability, as well as hydrogen storage research. "As FCEVs become increasingly commercially available, the Energy Department is focused on advancements to enable hydrogen infrastructure including production, delivery, storage, and manufacturing, as well as continuing to reduce fuel cell cost and improve durability," the DOE said in a statement. Read more from the DOE. A Volkswagen e-Up! caught fire after a collision with a train in Norway. The driver, Christopher Traasdahl Saether, was able to jump from the electric Volkswagen before the train hit, and was physically unharmed. It also appears that there were no injuries among the passengers on the train. "It was quite a way to start the day," says Saether. A photographer at the scene reported that the car burst into flames when a salvage crew attempted to remove the wreckage from the railway crossing. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume will be installed as head of the VW brand
Wed, Jun 3 2020Volkswagen Chief Executive Herbert Diess is planning to promote Porsche CEO Oliver Blume to take over as the head of the VW brand, according to a report from Auto Motor und Sport. Citing company sources, the German site said Bernhard Maier, who currently sits at the head of VW's Skoda brand, will lead Porsche in Blume's place. A shuffle at VW isn't surprising. The last thing Volkswagen needs as it transitions away from its long-running "clean diesel" TDI fiasco and into a clean electric ID future is negative press surrounding its burgeoning electrified lineup. Unfortunately, the ID.3 launch has been marred by software issues, with Manager magazine citing company engineers saying "the basic architecture was developed too hastily." Because of that underlying issue, various modules "often do not understand each other" and suffer dropouts. The brand-new eighth-generation Golf launch was also troubled and pushed back due to software problems. And more recently, Volkswagen was forced to pull an advertisement after admitting it was racist and insulting. That marketing misstep, according to the report, will lead to the firing of Chief Marketing Officer Jochen Sengpiehl. Related Video:
VW air rule violation allegations 'stunning,' $18B fine unlikely
Sat, Sep 19 2015The big automotive news today was the US federal allegations that VW quietly and illegally installed software on approximately 482,000 diesel vehicles sold in the United States so that they would not return substandard results on government emissions tests. To say the least, this is potentially a very big deal. You can read the details of the government's allegations here. The problem seems to be with the NOx trap. Sam Abuelsamid, a former AutoblogGreen editor who is now a senior research analyst at Navigant Research's Transportation Efficiencies program, told me that there were some hints that VW's diesel emissions strategy had issues a while back. The vehicles affected by today's announcement are all equipped with the 2-liter, 4-cylinder TDI, he said. They all have the lean NOx (nitrogen oxides) trap, whereas all other current modern diesels use urea to treat NOx emissions. "When VW launched those vehicles, I went to the TDI launch program in Santa Monica and asked them if they were going to put the diesel engine into the Tiguan because that would be an ideal application," he said. "They said no, because it would be too heavy. Turns out, the NOx trap was enough to meet the emissions standards in the smaller cars, but not the Tiguan. That seems to be where the problem is, in the NOx trap. All the other big VW and Audi diesels, they use urea, just like BMW and Mercedes do." Abuelsamid added that, in California, to do an emissions test, testers don't stick a probe up the exhaust, as you would suspect. Instead, they just do a visual test to make sure nothing was tampered with and then plug a scanner into the OBD-II port to read the codes. The news today basically says that the cars were programmed to send out false codes, giving readings that testers are looking for instead of what's actually going on. "That's the background, as far as I know at this point," he said. This could be "a black eye on the auto industry." - John O'Dell Speaking at the AltCar Expo in Santa Monica just hours after the news first broke this morning, Edmunds.com's John O'Dell said the Fed's allegations were "stunning." The idea that VW might have gamed the system, he said, "underscores how important EPA clean air numbers are, that a company would allegedly stoop to this to try and meet them. Obviously, people are paying attention to that sort of thing.
