For sale before summer...One of the few cars that you can drive everyday and will never depreciate!! I acquired this but rust was a big problem as with most of these that are left. I cut out and welded new metal under rear seat, ft wheel wells and support rails/rockers. Po had just installed new floorpans (don't make sense to put in new floors on rusted rockers!) Well, its straight now. Motor is solid with a new carb and battery. Installed a new top so you can park it outside and the interior is good. Light blue paint but its no show winner but it has way cool EMPI wheels and the tires are ok.. New radio with ipod port.  this is a good solid bug that will be a reliable car this summer to throw your dog and kids in and for cruzin. Oh, the build date is 12/1979 so its one of the very last VW Beetles made.

**** Why did I list this as a "project" car?****

Here is what needs to be done to make it perfect:

1. order new clips to hold on the sun visors...next to rearview mirror

2,  install rear glass window...it has a new seal...you need a couple people ..im by myself

3.  there is a slight shimmy at 50-60 mph...shop said it could be a flat spot in tires as it was sitting for a long time before I bought it.   I recommend just buying new tires...shop balanced these tires and it improved greatly but not perfect.  shop also recommended new rear shocks

4.  No brake lights...you can figure it out...I haven't checked if there is 12 volts to the master cyl switch or not

5.  passenger seat wobbles a bit...I ordered new plastic bushings but havnt installed

6.  needs new wiper blades

7.  windshield washer needs installed....it uses the pressurized air from the spare tire which has a leak so the washer doesn't work

That's it!!  From the above choice, the priority item is the brake lights but I have been driving it around and it does run good and solid.  If you still reading this, you may be wondering why doesn't he spend a couple hours fixing this list as the items are not that serious.....well I  need the space in my garage so selling this car is my priority.  Take advantage of my lack of motivation and buy this unique car at a great price.   I listed everything right and wrong about this vehicle....there should be no surprises.  Check my feedback as I have sold vehicles before and value my 100% positive feedback ....please email questions and I may find time to repair some of these and I will update as I do...or not!!!

Volkswagen debuts MkVII-based diesel Golf GTD

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As Volkswagen prepares for the launch of the seventh-generation Golf, it continues to show off some of the car's different variants. With the standard Golf and the ultra-efficient BlueMotion Concept out of the way, now we're finally starting to see some of the sportier versions planned for the hatchback. Confirmed for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen has now given us our first glimpse at the Golf GTD.
Just think of the GTD as a diesel version of the GTI with all the handling and styling upgrades, and then add a torquey engine to the equation. (We had the chance to sample the current GTD over the summer, so click here to read more.) To go with the new body style, VW also gave the GTD a new TDI engine consisting of a similar turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter inline-four layout but with an output of 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque - that's an increase of 14 hp and 22 lb-ft over the current GTD. That's a pretty good oomph, but the GTD won't be setting any acceleration records with VW quoting a 0-62 mile per hour time of 7.5 seconds thanks to the car's 3,036-pound curb weight.
The styling of the MkVII Golf lends itself quite well to the more aggressive body kit found on the GTD (and likely matching the GTI). The new front fascia and blacked-out grille give the GTD a sporty look up front, while 17-inch sport wheels, rocker panel extensions and smoked LED taillights finish off the visual changes. The GTD will only be offered in three exterior colors: Tornado Red, Black and Pure White. As expected, the interior gets the plaid seat inserts and flat-bottomed sport steering wheel, but the car also gets stainless steel pedals, a black headliner, ambient cabin lighting and a specific gauge cluster readout.

VW Golf Sportsvan succeeds Golf Plus in Frankfurt

Sun, 08 Sep 2013

Just ahead of this week's Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen has announced the world premiere of its Golf Sportsvan, a near-production concept that succeeds its Golf Plus. VW describes this compact family car as "one of the most versatile vehicles of the compact class," noting that it offers a mix of hatchback and minivan features in a sporty package.
That sportiness comes from the Sportsvan's styling (perhaps more sleek wagon than minivan) and performance features it shares with the Golf GTI - including the XDS+ electronic differential lock, which is integrated into the Electronic Stability Control system to improve agility. At the same time, the Sportsvan's six engine options, which include a turbodiesel, are up to 19-percent more fuel-efficient than their predecessors.

VW going turbo-only in 3 to 4 years

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

This really was a matter of when, rather than if. Volkswagen will apparently be the first manufacturer to phase out naturally aspirated engines in favor of turbocharging its full slate. VW is kind of responsible for ushering in this push towards small-displacement, turbocharged engines that's taken the industry by storm. When it dropped its direct-injection, 2.0-liter turbo in the 2005 GTI it demonstrated that strapping an iron long to an engine can enhance the powertrain as a whole. VW made fuel economy gains, while also giving a linear, non-laggy turbo experience that it has replicated, model-after-model, to this day.
Speaking with The Detroit News, Volkswagen's executive Vice President of Group Quality, Marc Trahan, told the paper that, "We only have one normally aspirated gas engine, and when we go to the next generation vehicle that it's in, it will be replaced. So three, four years maximum."
Really, it's hard to get teary-eyed about either of these engines going away. VW has access to smaller powerplants that could easily match the performance of the 2.5 five-cylinder and the 3.6 V6, while gobbling up less fuel and providing a better driving experience. What we are sad about is that a similar statement about the extinction of NA engines came from the Vice President of Powertrain Engineering at Ford, Joe Bakaj. We'd certainly get teary-eyed over a world without Ford's excellent 5.0-liter V8.
