I BOUGHT THIS 4 YEARS AGO AND IT HAS REALLY BEEN A HEAD TURNER. IT WAS JUST BUILT WHEN I BOUGHT IT, FROM THE CHASSIS UP. THE ONLY THING WAS THE WIRING HAD A PROBLEM SO I HAD THE WHOLE THING REWIRED BY A PROFESSIONAL RESTORER. I HAVE ABOUT 8800.00 IN THE BUGGY BUT KNOW I WON'T GET THAT OUT OF IT. I JUST HAD THE VALVES TUNED THIS SUMMER BY A VW MECHANIC. THE CHROME WHEELS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE ALONG WITH THE TIRES WHICH ONLY HAVE ABOUT 3000 MILES ON THEM. AS A MATTER OF FACT THATS ALL THE MILES THE BUGGY HAS ON IT. I JUST DROVE IT AROUND TOWN AND TO THE BEACH ONCE. IT HAS BEEN A VERY DEPENDABLE CAR FOR ME AND I WOULD'NT BE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. A LOT OF CARE HAS GONE IN TO THIS ORIGINAL MANX (PAPERWORK TO PROOVE). THE FRONT BUCKET SEATS ADJUST BACK AND FORTH AND LEAN FORWARD. THERE IS ONE SMALL HOLE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PENCIL ERASER. THE CHROME WHEELS HAVE NO RUST AND SHINE LIKE NEW. THE CD PLAYER IS BY SONY AND HAS SPEAKERS BUILT INTO THE BACK SEAT WITH TWEETERS UP FRONT. IT HAS PLENTY OF PUNCH AND DOES HAVE THE REMOTE. ALL GUAGES WORK EXCEPT THE GAS GUAGE. PROBOBLY A SIMPLE FIX BUT I JUST KEEP IT FULL. IT HAS A DIMMER SWITCH FOR THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE FLOORBOARD. THERE IS A READING LIGHT ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. ALL SPEEDS SHIFT SMOOTHLY ALTHOUGH IF YOU ARE ON AN INCLINE IT MAY JUMP OUT OF REVERSE SOMETIMES. IT HAS SEATBELTS UP FRONT AND ONE THAT GOES ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE BACK SEAT. ALL LIGHTS AND SIGNALS WORK. THE ENGINE DOES NOT SMOKE AND HAS LOTS OF POWER. I HAVE TOLD ABOUT EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF ON THIS FINE BUGGY AND AM BEING STRAIT UP ABOUT EVERYTHING. Volkswagen to add 50k jobs by 2018
Thu, 04 Apr 2013Volkswagen still has its eyes set on becoming the top global automaker by 2018, and to get there, it's apparently going to need more boots on the ground. Automotive News Europe is reporting that VW is looking to increase its staff by 50,000 over the next five years - an increase of nine percent - which does not include an increase in its US dealer network.
According to the report, a majority of the growth will come from China where the automaker is also looking to double its production capacity in the same time frame. The Volkswagen Group is already expected to rival General Motors for the top sales spot in China this year, and such a rapid expansion in the region could make a good springboard for sales increases in other countries.
Volkswagen planning Up! hybrid model using XL1 powertrain
Sun, 24 Feb 2013Even though we've finally gotten a look at the production version of the 261-mile per gallon Volkswagen XL1, this aero-shaped two-seater was never intended for high-volume sales. Fortunately, it sounds like the same isn't true for the car's diesel plug-in hybrid powertrain, which, according to a report from AutoCar, could make its way under the hood of another Volkswagen model: the Up! minicar (shown above).
A potential Up! Hybrid would likely be able to return some of the same impressive fuel economy numbers as the XL1, but it would be a more realistic car with more passenger space and greater production capacity. The hand-built XL1 will use a 47-horsepower, two-cylinder TDI engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the 27-hp electric motor and lithium-ion battery helps deliver an all-electric driving range of 31 miles.
One of the core pillars of the XL1's design is its lightweight construction with a 1752-pound curb weight, which makes the Up! a perfect recipient for using this powertrain since it weighs just 300 pounds more. The report says that the Up! Hybrid is still in the developmental phase, so a production version isn't expected for at least another 18 months.
Volkswagen Multivan Alltrack Concept takes the luxury van life off road
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Volkswagen dug into its commercial vehicle fleet for its latest Geneva Motor Show concept, blending the versatile body of the T5 MultiVan with a luxuriously appointed interior, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a thrifty diesel powertrain.
That 177-horsepower diesel engine routes its power to the AWD system through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Based on that alone, we'd expect the Multivan Alltrack's behind-the-wheel experience to be somewhat familiar. That all-wheel-drive system and van body contribute to the 21-degree approach and 15-degree departure angles of this soft-roading MultiVan.
What wouldn't be familiar is its exquisite cabin. Volkswagen opted for a nautical theme for the concept's interior, featuring grey-blue leather seats from Poltrona Frau and a floor finished in real wood. The dark wood trim can also be found throughout the interior, running below the windows and on the dash.
