Previously purchased from private seller in San Diego. Great looking car and in very good condition. 75% restoration including paint, transmission, engine, interior and some cosmetics. Drives great and clutch/transmission very smooth and good brakes. Chrome is good but could use plating especially for inside the bumpers. I have only owned the car for 10 months and drove it around 250 miles. I have no observed any leaks or problems with the car at all. Needs wiper motor, some rubber pieces replaced, front wheel alignment and new speedo cable (it makes noise above 30mph). All these items I would fix if I was keeping the car but honestly none of this bothered me when I drove it. All cheap parts available from various VW parts suppliers. Car is available for inspection in Glastonbury, CT. Please do not bid unless you have intentions of buying the vehicle without either inspecting or waiving an inspection prior to auction close. CT do not Title vehicles this old so the car will be sold with bill of sale. Payment terms.... $500 deposit within 24hours or auction close and remainder within 7 days. VW Super Bowl teaser with Jimmy Cliff is like a less-mean Tosh.0 Web Redemption
Thu, 24 Jan 2013Reggae super-duper-star and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff has been using music to send positive vibes out into the universe for decades now, so its no surprise that his message on behalf of Volkswagen is one of redemption.
Dubbed Sunny Side, this web-spot is VW's warmup of sorts for what promises to be another blockbuster year in the world of Super Bowl commercials. Without giving away the game, the euphonious commercial sees Cliff opening his arms and his heart to some YouTube 'celebrities' that might see courser treatment from the likes of Tosh.0, for instance. We can't help but be reminded of Coca-Cola's legendary 1971 Hilltop spot with the "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" lyric, too.

CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over

After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.
Happy 60th to the VW Karmann Ghia
Tue, 20 Aug 2013Volkswagen's product portfolio may be as extensive these days as any other carmaker in the business. But if you still think of the original Beetle as synonymous with the brand, that's probably because a) you're old and b) the Beetle was the company's only product until the mid-50s.
Sixty years ago Wilhelm Karmann (founder of the eponymous coachbuilder) was in Paris for the auto salon and met up with Luigi Segre and his team from Carrozzeria Ghia who showed him what was essentially a "Beetle in a sports coat." A month later they showed it to Volkswagen chief Heinrich Nordhoff who, setting aside his conservative tastes, approved it for production. And so the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was born, giving the German marque a second product line. It still used Beetle mechanicals and was built at the same Karmann factory in Onsabrück that was already assembling the Beetle Cabriolet.
It took another couple of years to put the design into production, but from 1955 to 1974, Volkswagen and Karmann built 362,601 coupes and 80,881 of the subsequent convertible that arrived in 1957. Today the Onsabrück factory is part of the VW Group, handling production of the Golf Cabriolet, XL1 and Porsche Boxster and Cayman, and with that original Karmann Ghia prototype as part of its factory collection.
