Near perfect 1973 TR-6.  I originally bought this car from a South Florida dealer/restorer who described the car has "painstakingly frame off reconditioning done to assure only the highest of standards".

Here's a summary of what had been done on the car at that time. Electronic ignition, headers, free-flow exhaust, brake slotted and drilled front rotors, stainless steel brake hoses, oil cooler with quick release filter, poly-suspension parts, aluminium rack and pinion holder, competition clutch and pressure plate, new convertible top, 17" aluminium alloy wheels with performance red lined tires, aircraft aluminum spaces for wheel sets, wood steering wheel and mahogany dash board.

All seals, glass and roll-up hardware have been replaced, door handles, chrome, new interior, seats redone completely, new harnesses, the entire exterior body replaced with OEM parts, new grille, badges, radiator, horn, the entire comfort feature such as blower and motor hoses and clamps replaced, outlets cleaned and brought to original specs.

When I got the car, a minor detail was forgotten.  The engine.  It was totally shot beyond repair.  My only option was to replace the engine which I had done by a local British car expert.  So, as you can guess, the car is not a matching number car.  The upside is that I now have a car that behaves like a TR-6 should.  The oil pressure reaches 100 at start up and settles between 60 and 80 after it's been driven for a while.  It doesn't smoke and maintains a cool temperature.  While at it I had all of the hoses changed. Also the car had been sold to me with Weber dual down-draft carburetors.  To the opinion of the British specialist those carbs were ill-suited  for that car so he put back 2 SU carburetors which were adjusted this spring.

As I said in the opening line it is now a near perfect TR-6.  What would need to be done in order to be perfect would be the following.

- The hood bulges out on the passenger side by about 1/4 of an inch.  A minor adjustment would have to be made.  But you really have to be looking for it.
- A door trim designed to help close the door would have to be glued back on.
- Tiny specs of surface rust on the mags
- No spare tire.
 - For those very hot summer days, an air duct concentrating the air to the radiator should be added.
- The radio is functional but probably not connected to the antenna.
- The speedometer works perfectly but the odometer doesn't.  The mileage indicated is approximate and I have no way of telling the exact  mileage.

The paint is near perfect.  No rust whatsoever.  The undercarriage is the same.  The alignment was done and doesn't pull.

Jaguar F Type V6 S vs Triumph Street Triple R in open-air track attack

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

Typically, these track battle videos pair up car against car or, in more disparate circumstances, car versus crossover, as we saw the other day. While the outcome of that battle was quite predictable, what'll happen when an equally fetching (and fast) four-wheeler is put up against one of the icons of the two-wheeled world? Evo just had to find out.
Matching up a Jaguar F-Type V6 S Convertible against a Triumph Street Triple R is at least more of an even fight than the last battle between the Porsche Cayman GTS and Macan Turbo. The Triumph has a 675-cc engine to work with, and is very light. Meanwhile, the Jag has a thumping 380-horsepower, 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 to haul about it's considerably heftier heft. Who will come out on top?
You'll need to watch the full video to find out.
