This TUNDRA is a real head turner and gets LOOKS/COMPLIMENTS everywhere I go!

Along with the upgrades I had done professionally to the truck, it is also a XSP-X edition. The XSP-X Tundras can only be purchased from SouthEast Toyota Dealers and debuted in 2012, so the winner will be getting a first year edition of this highly sought after package. The XSP-X package includes:

-Custom Leather Seats with XSP-X Stitching

-Stainless Steel Grille with Black Mesh

-LED Daytime Running Lights

-Spray In Bedliner

-All Weather Floor Mats

-Skid Plate Black Finish

-Pocket Fender Flares with Rivets

-Predator Step Tubes

-XSP-X Badging

Now for the UPGRADES…Keep in mind that $10K is just the price of what I paid for the parts themselves collectively, that number does not reflect the professional installation labor fees.

-20" TIS 535B Wheels ($1100)These wheels are very rare! They were introduced by TIS this year as part of their flagship Off-Road Series Wheel. They look fantastic with this truck and are paired perfectly with TOYO Tires. Deep Lip Off-Road Series, Satin Black with CNC Milled Accents

-35" Toyo Open Country MT Tires ($1800)ONLY 3,000 MILES ON THESE TIRES, some claim to get over 25,000 miles with these so there are many more miles left on these!! These tires are very smooth on the road with minimal noise and there is NO RUBBING on the front fenders which means a U-Turn can easily be executed smoothly in this truck! Truck enthusiasts know these for their long wear, low noise and aggressive tread pattern.

-6" Pro Comp Lift Kit with ES9000 Shocks ($1900): This is the Series II lift by Pro Comp and was professionally installed and I was very surprised at how much smoother this lift made the truck drive compared to the stock suspension.

-2" Shackles in Rear ($120): These added 2 inches to the rear of the truck making the total lift 8 INCHES, giving the truck a much more aggressive look vice the ‘front end higher’ look that some trucks have.

-2-1/4" Carrier Bearing Bracket ($75): This Bracket was custom built and prevents driveline vibration for vehicles with a lift of 5” or higher. Provides a MUCH SMOOTHER ride!

-1-1/2" Hub & Wheel Centric Wheel Spacers ($250): These widened the stance of the truck and gives the appearance of a beefier look.

-Volant Cold Air Intake ($725): This CAI gave this truck more power and a slight deeper sound. Making an additional 22 hp and 30 lbs.-ft. of torque, this Volant air intake system is one of the most powerful systems on the market. Many Toyota Tundra owners have claimed an average of 1.5 mpg improvement which averages out to $500 or more a year in fuel savings, if you average 15,000 miles per year.

-Volant Vortice Throttle Body Spacer ($50): I added the TBS to maximize the potential of the CAI.

-Magnaflow Mufflers w/Custom X-Pipe and Custom Black Exhaust Tips ($1200): This is my favorite addition to this truck…A very deep aggressive sound but not too loud, doesn’t drone on the highway. This exhaust system was custom built and done just right! sounds amazing!

-Recon LED Smoked Lens Tail Lights ($400): Recon is know for their quality lighting and these Tail Lights are living proof of that.

-Line-X Premium on Front & Rear Bumpers, Grill Surround & Bull Bar ($800): Also a personal favorite of mine on this truck…this upgrade is unique and definitely one of a kind. The Line-X dealer spent 3 days applying this beautiful premium coat with meticulous attention to detail. Most compliments I receive are on these Line-X’d parts.

-Westin Bull Bar ($300): This is a popular bull bar that I added for cosmetic reasons and once again, this one stands out because of it being covered in Line-X.

-Undercover Flex Tonneau Cover ($850): This is a great amenity to have and has worked miracles for me. First off, it looks amazing and fits perfectly being flush on the bed rails and tailgate. Secondly, Undercover advertises this Flex Tonneau Cover as being ‘Water Resistant’ and I can attest to this claim. I have stored many important things that can’t/shouldn’t get wet in the back of my truck and they all have come out dry as they were when I put them in there, even after being in the rain and in the snow when I took the truck to a ski resort. The ONLY place that water gets through is in the rear on one side of the tailgate but leakage is very minimal. Lastly, this Flex Tonneau Cover is easily removable!!!

-Black Billet Fuel Door ($100): Truck came with a Chrome Fuel Door and I replaced it with this sharp black one.

-WeatherTech Floor Mats in Front and Rear ($190): These are very sturdy and live up to their good name. Also, very easy to clean with water or simply wipe them off. I also have 2 EXTRA SETS of Floor Mats…1 NEW TUNDRA SET and 1 used all weather set. Winner bidder gets all 3 sets!

-UV Blocking Windshield Window Tint & 3M Window Tint all around ($200): Tent is 20% all around and the best part is the UV Blocking Windshield Tint…you can clearly tell a difference looking thru this windshield.

Toyota shows a smoother autonomous Lexus for CES

Fri, Jan 4 2019

Toyota is bringing a new research vehicle to CES. The TRI-P4 autonomous driving test vehicle, based on the Lexus LS500h, is a major step ahead, according to Toyota, as it has improved computing power and additional cameras for better reaction times. Earlier test mules have also used the LS as a basis, and the shift to the new, fifth generation LS brings chassis and steering-control benefits, so the vehicle's movements are smoother in automated mode. The camera tech has also been better integrated into the vehicle design, courtesy of CALTY in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Development has been swift, as the TRI's P2.1 car was unveiled in 2017. The P4 car will be used for Toyota Research Institute's Guardian and Chauffeur mode development. The two tiers differ somewhat, as TRI's Ryan Eustice explains: "Our Chauffeur development is focused on full autonomy, where the human is essentially removed from the driving equation, either completely in all environments, or within a restricted driving domain. Guardian, on the other hand, is being designed to amplify human performance behind the wheel, not replace it. The introduction of the new P4 platform will help us accelerate the development of both tracks when it joins our fleet this spring." The vehicle's situational awareness is boosted by two extra cameras facing on the sides, and a new imaging sensor both forward and rearward. Toyota says the P4's lidar setup is a carryover from the previous platform, but that its machine learning is much improved by its more powerful computer setup. The electricity required by the P4's computing power also comes from the hybrid battery, and as the computer "brain" is now housed vertically against the rear seat's backing, actual trunk space has been freed. More LS500hs will begin to be modified into TRI-P4 vehicles during spring 2019. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Italian coachbuilder wraps a modern-day Citroen van in a retro skin

Tue, Oct 6 2020

Italian coachbuilder Caselani resurrected an obscure, often-forgotten model from Citroen's past to offer van buyers an additional retro-styled option. Called Type HG, it's based on the current-generation Citroen Jumpy. One of the French carmaker's best-known vintage vans is the Type H, which was built with only minor changes from 1947 to 1981. It's aged into a sought-after classic that's popular as a food truck and as a camper from Paris to Sydney. Few realize Citroen planned to release a smaller model named Type G which looked almost exactly like the H but used an air-cooled flat-twin engine shared with the 2CV. Several prototypes were made, but the project was canned in favor of the 2CV-based, nine-horsepower AU van released in 1951. It's this little-known prototype that only exists in Citroen's official heritage collection and in the minds of the most indoctrinated French car enthusiasts that Caselani chose to bring into the 21st century. And, because the Type G (shown below) was a shrunken copy of the Type H from a design standpoint, making a body kit that fits the Citroen Jumpy was relatively simple. Caselani liberally borrowed styling cues from its modern version of the Type H, which is based on the larger Citroen Jumper sold as the Ram ProMaster in the United States. It adds a new-look front end with a vertical grille, chromed chevrons, and round headlights positioned as far out of the body as regulations permit, corrugated body panels, and a redesigned rear end. Whitewall tires are optionally available. Caselani offers the Type HG as a passenger van, a crew-cab van, and a panel van. Pricing starts at 29,400 euros before taxes are factored in, a sum that represents about $35,000 and that corresponds to a short-wheelbase panel model powered by a 100-horsepower, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. Alternatively, motorists who already own a Jumpy can purchase the transformation kit on its own for 14,800 euros (about $17,500). For added peace of mind, Caselani pointed out the conversion was created with Citroen's input, and the brand authorized the kit. We know what you're thinking: what on earth is a Jumpy? Glad you asked! It's a van positioned in the middle of Citroen's commercial range. It slots between the Berlingo, which competes in the same segment as the Ford Transit Connect, and the Jumper, which is marketed as an alternative to the Ford Transit.

Toyota settles first wrongful death suit related to unintended acceleration

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

Toyota's sales seem to have rebounded from the unintended acceleration issues from 2009 and 2010, but the automaker is far from done dealing with this situation. Following a settlement worth up to $1.4 billion for economic loss to affected vehicle owners, Toyota has settled rather than going to trial in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from an accident in Utah in 2010 that left two passengers dead. This isn't the first case in which Toyota has settled, but it was the first among a consolidated group of cases being held in Santa Ana, CA.
According to The Detroit News, this case was scheduled to take place next month, and it was for a November 2010 incident in which Paul Van Alfen and Charlene James Lloyd were killed in a Camry when, based on findings by the Utah Highway Patrol, the accelerator got stuck causing the car to speed out of control and hit a wall; the terms of the settlement were not announced.
The article says that while Toyota will settle on some cases, it doesn't plan on settling on all of them as it still wants to be able to "defend [its] product at trial." This will probably be the case in suits claiming that software for the drive-by-wire accelerator was the cause of an accident in a Toyota or Lexus vehicle. The question of whether or not the electronic accelerator played any role in this problem has been a hot-button topic since the beginning. Toyota has issued recalls in the past to attempt to prevent unintended acceleration caused by trapped floor mats and faulty accelerator pedals, but it also says driver error was to blame in some instances.
