68 Fj40 All Original Barn Find Clean Nothing Rusted Thru Pto Winch Orig Paint+ on 2040-cars
Portland, Oregon, United States

1968 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER FJ40 / All Original BARN FIND / Clean / NOTHING Rusted Through / PTO WINCH / Original Paint + Original owner bought new from Roseburg Oregon dealership (see documents) in 1968. It was then sold to son-in-law who drove it into his barn in 1991 & that is where it stayed for the last 23 years. Son-in-law claims that the odometer has NOT flipped, but I obviously can't guarantee that? The bumpers are banged up from moving it around in the barn over the years by pushing it with a tractor. Since being pulled from barn all that has been done to it is exterior soap & water wash & interior clean up/critter removal. Decided to sell as a non-runner when I noticed that the rats had done some electrical work. Noticed some chewed wires on engine side of firewall & some more back by fuel tank. I did not notice any chewed up interior wires. Engine turns over fine with a jumper on the starter so shouldn't be too tough to get going, I just don't have the time & it's really not my thing. This truck still has a headliner, original seats (driver's side recovered @ some point), PTO winch, under seat tool tote (incomplete), partial owners manual (rats), jack, service booklet, some chains, extra wiper arm under seat, hitch ball, original keys, etc. I am not an FJ nut personally, so I'm there will be questions, and feel free to email with them. I'll do my best to get them answered right away. Thanks for looking & please only bid if you intend to buy. I can assist with shipping anywhere within the U.S. and some locations overseas. But, please make arrangements and try to have that part figured out before buying. ****Note: I ask that nobody bids on my listing for entertainment purposes. If you end up winning this auction & do not follow through with transaction I will expect some compensation for wasting my time. If you do not intend to pay compensation due to failure of completing transaction I can assure you that you will be impressed with the efforts that are made to collect. In other words, bidding is for buyers.**** |

Toyota Camry, Lexus RX to get aluminum parts
Tue, 23 Sep 2014Ah, aluminum. The lightweight, strong material has long held a following within the premium ranks, but as Ford prepares to launch an aluminum F-150, the material is gaining acceptance among more mainstream automakers. Toyota is one such brand, with a new report indicating that the Japanese giant will add aluminum bits and bobs to some of its upcoming vehicles.
These won't be full, aluminum-intensive treatments like the F-150, however. Automotive News reports that an aluminum hood and liftgate will be coming to the 2016 Lexus RX, and following that, the Camry will get a bonnet built from Element 13 for model year 2018.
As AN points out, Toyota is no stranger to aluminum, using it in Japanese-built models like the Prius and Scion FR-S. The RX and Camry, though, will mark the first time the company's North American factories will use the material, and they'll do so on a significantly larger scale, owing to the higher volumes that the Camry and RX represent.
The ugly economics of green vehicles
Sat, Sep 20 2014It's fair to say that most consumers would prefer a green vehicle, one that has a lower impact on the environment and goes easy on costly fuel (in all senses of the term). The problem is that most people can't – or won't – pay the price premium or put up with the compromises today's green cars demand. We're not all "cashed-up greenies." In 2013, the average selling price of a new vehicle was $32,086. The truth is that most Americans can't afford a new car, green or not. In 2013, the average selling price of a new vehicle was $32,086. According to a recent Federal Reserve study, the median income for American families was $46,700 in 2013, a five-percent decline from $49,000 in 2010. While $32,000 for a car may not sound like a lot to some, it's about $630 a month financing for 48 months, assuming the buyer can come up with a $6,400 down payment. And that doesn't include gas, insurance, taxes, maintenance and all the rest. It's no wonder that a recent study showed that the average family could afford a new car in only one of 25 major US cities. AutoTrader conducted a recent survey of 1,900 millennials (those born between 1980 and 2000) about their new and used car buying habits. Isabelle Helms, AutoTrader's vice president of research, said millennials are "big on small" vehicles, which tend to be more affordable. Millennials also yearn for alternative-powered vehicles, but "they generally can't afford them." When it comes to the actual behavior of consumers, the operative word is "affordable," not "green." In 2012, US new car sales rose to 14.5 million. But according to Manheim Research, at 40.5 million units, used car sales were almost three times as great. While the days of the smoke-belching beater are mostly gone, it's a safe bet that the used cars are far less green in terms of gas mileage, emissions, new technology, etc., than new ones. Who Pays the Freight? Green cars, particularly alternative-fuel green cars, cost more than their conventional gas-powered siblings. A previous article discussed how escalating costs and limited utility drove me away from leasing a hydrogen fuel cell-powered Hyundai Tucson, which at $50,000, was nearly twice the cost of the equivalent gas-powered version. In Hyundai's defense, it's fair to ask who should pay the costs of developing and implementing new technology vehicles and the infrastructure to support them.
Toyota Pro/Celebrity race switching from Scion tC to FR-S [w/video]
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Toyota has announced that the rear-wheel-drive Scion FR-S will replace the front-wheel-drive Scion tC as the racecar used by actors, singers and celebrities of all grades in its annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race. It's the first time a rear-drive vehicle has been used for the event in 27 years, with the tC having been in use since 2005, and the FWD Celica before that. This year's race takes place on April 20th amidst the festivities of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach weekend.
The racing FR-S, which debuted today at the Chicago Auto Show, won't be left stock either, but rather outfitted with a range of official Toyota Racing Development parts and equipment, such as a stainless steel exhaust, new coil overs and springs, upgraded brakes, a bigger air intake and 18-inch wheels, not to mention all of the safety equipment required to keep the celebrities and pro drivers safe. The company says the performance mods have lifted horsepower to 210 from the standard car's 200. Check out the build process for the cars in the video below to see just how much work's been done.
The Toyota Pro/Celebrity race is also about more than just letting celebrities and pros do battle on a road course. The spectacle helps raise money for "Racing for Kids," a non-profit charity that supports children's hospitals in the US.
