Up for sale is my 1980 FJ40 Landcruiser. Lots of new parts and labor have been put into it including:

Complete body and paint restoration with $2,350.00 in receipts done by a professional.

Chevrolet 350 V8 conversion mated to the stock 4 speed Toyota transmission (flush just done)

Power steering conversion using a Toyota 4-Runner power steering parts

Rear disc brake conversion with an upgraded dual reservoir power brake booster

Line-X tub (black / interior)

Warn M 8000 professional (Made in USA) winch with remote

New HEI high output ignition with new wires and plugs.

Heavy duty swing away tire carrier, holds two jerry cans, offroad accessories

Newer chrome rims with newer tires

New windshield and wipers

New custom front seats

Locking front storage container in cab (where stock dash pad would normally be)

Comes with new tow bar

Newer floor mats with sound proofing

Brand new (expensive) headliner

All bolts that I have had to take off to do work on the truck (about 60% or so) have been replaced with grade 8, stainless steel METRIC hardware. SO, working on this FJ only requires a metric tool set unless you are going to wrench on the Chevy V8. As you can tell, I am a bit OCD with the restoration and the accuracy of working on this Toyota. I have spent hundreds of dollars on just stainless steel bolts, lock washers, screws, etc. :)

These are things I can think of, many more things have been done. This cruiser (mechanically sound) drives great at 70mph. Clean clear title in hand. This is not a frame off restoration or show room quality, but is an awesome rig ready to hit the trail. I get lots of compliments.

In some of the pictures the front turn signals were not installed, they are installed and working now.  The weather was nice that day I took the pictures, but hasn't been as nice since I put the blinkers on. :)

Toyota FJ40's increase in value by 4% a year (average). This FJ was toward the end of the years they imported FJ40's into the U.S. Approximately 3,000 1980 FJ40's were imported that year - in contrast LOTS more were sold other years.
1973......11,218........FJ40 / FJ55
1974.......8,204........FJ40 / FJ55
1975.......9,050........FJ40 / FJ55
1976.......9,236........FJ40 / FJ55
1977.......9,924........FJ40 / FJ55
1978.......8,858........FJ40 / FJ55
1979.......5,716........FJ40 / FJ55
1980.......3,058........FJ40 / FJ55

SO, this truck is very rare and in the condition it sits - it is even more rare. I have spent hundreds of hours on this vehicle and I am ready to start another project.

I will help ship the vehicle to a great extent.  I will not pay, of course, but I will possibly drive the FJ up to 1000 miles from Reno to meet the buyer (please pay for gas). This FJ will travel across the US with no problems  :)  I just want a good home for my beloved FJ.  Please contact me through eBay with any questions.  I will be at the ready for the next week to respond.

Also, I have NO RESERVE on my FJ.  Anyone that knows nice FJ40s knows what this truck is worth.  I have faith that the buyer will still find a good deal here on ebay with my FJ, but I will feel good about the sale price.  I am open to buy-it-nows, just ask.

Ford F-150 could be affected by tornado-damaged supplier in S.C.

Wed, Apr 22 2020

The disruption caused by a tornado that severely damaged a South Carolina auto-parts plant and killed a contract security guard last week could be felt by more automakers than just Ford and affect more than just its best-selling F-Series pickup, which is due for an update. And there’s still no estimate for when operations might resume at the plant. The Detroit Free Press reports that the BorgWarner plant in Seneca, near Greenville, makes transfer cases for F-150 and Super Duty pickups, the Ford Explorer and Expedition, Transit cargo vans, and Lincoln Navigator and Aviator SUVs. ItÂ’s also a supplier for the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra trucks. Transfer cases shift power from the transmission to the front and rear axles in four-wheel-drive vehicles. BorgWarner says it still has no update for when it might partially or fully resume operations. The tornado that ripped through the area in the western part of the state on April 13 tore the roof, walls and signage off the factory and killed a 77-year-old contract worker when the security building he was sheltering in collapsed. Only four or five others were inside the plant, which has been idled because of the coronavirus outbreak, when the tornado struck. In an SEC filing on Friday, Ford said it has sent employees to the site to help BorgWarner and assess the damage to FordÂ’s tooling. “Initial assessments indicate that the Ford tooling was not materially damaged in this incident,” Ford said in the filing. “We do not have sufficient information to estimate when the facility will be back on-line or whether or the extent to which this incident will impact our plans to resume production of four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles.” A Fiat Chrysler spokeswoman also told the Freep the company was working with BorgWarner on recovery plans. A Toyota spokesman told Autoblog that "we are collaborating with BorgWarner to help restore production for transfer cases for Tundra assembly. We are confident that theyÂ’ll fully recover over time." Like other automakers, Ford shut down production at its U.S. plants last month as a precaution against the coronavirus pandemic. But Ford hasnÂ’t yet said when it plans to reopen its factories. FCA is targeting May 4 to resume production. Models like the F-150 and Lincoln Navigator are major sources of profit for Ford, which estimated it lost $2 billion in the first quarter.

Raising A White Flag To The Competition
We all benefit from highly competitive battles. In the automotive sector, few campaigns are so closely fought as the decades-long struggle for supremacy in the fullsize half-ton pickup truck segment. The Ford F-150 has dominated for ages, but Chevrolet, Ram and GMC have been closing the gap with freshly redesigned trucks that are rocking the industry.
Today's half-ton trucks are better than they've ever been, and we have fierce competition to thank for that.

Toyota develops new pre-collision system with steering assist

Sun, 13 Oct 2013

A number of automakers are working on developing fully autonomous cars, but it looks like the groundwork for such technologies will likely show up first as semi-autonomous systems for both safety and convenience. Following recent announcements from Nissan and Ford in this area, Toyota has now released information for some of its advanced semi-autonomous technologies that could be offered in production cars over the next few years.
On the safety front, Toyota's new pre-collision system with pedestrian-avoidance steering assist is aimed at protecting the folks who aren't in the car. This system combines visual and audible alerts with automatic brake assist and automatic steering. If warnings don't get the driver to slow down, the brake assist kicks in if a collision is very likely, but if that is still not able to avoid the impending collision (and if there is enough room to do so), the car can automatically steer itself around the pedestrian. This sounds most beneficial for last-second dangers such as a person accidently stepping out into the road in front of a car. Toyota hopes to have this technology available to customers by 2015.
The Japanese automaker is also testing a suite of technologies called Automated Highway Driving Assist (AHDA). The key part of this is a new adaptive cruise control system that uses vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications rather than a radar-based system. This cooperative-adaptive cruise control allows vehicles to communicate their acceleration and deceleration data with other cars, which Toyota says this helps to improve fuel efficiency and traffic flow. Also a part of AHDA is the Lane Trace Control feature, which sounds like a next-gen lane keep assist. This system uses cameras, radar and a computer to keep the vehicle in a "smooth driving line" by being able to change steering angle, engine torque and braking force. Toyota says this technology could be in place by the "mid-2010s."
