1973 Toyota Land Cruiser Super Clean ! No Reserve... on 2040-cars
Cleveland, Ohio, United States
This is an outstanding FJ40. I've entered it in a couple of local car shows and it has been first in it's class each time. One of the recurring comments is that it has 'gone through a time warp' The paint on the hood is faded from the sun and the tailgate doors show their age but are fully functional. Those are the only negatives. I've had this vehicle for 7 years and I continue to be impressed with how well preserved it is and how original it is. This is a tough, solid truck. I've done a few things to it: Headers installed 2 years ago. (They did help with fuel consumption). The carb was cleaned and new float installed. Last summer, the water pump and the radiator were replaced. All the heater and coolant hoses replaced at that time. New front door weatherstripping . The windshield and gasket were replaced last summer also. I put the chrome wheels on 5 summers ago. I saved the original wheels and they are included in the sale. The vehicle runs strong, shifts smooth. The clutch is strong. The hubs turn freely, the 4 wheel engages easily and works well. The brakes are good. Doesn't use any oil between changes. It is a dependable daily driver if desired. The doors, the fenders, all the metal(even the tailgate area- a usual problem spot) are very clean. Even the bottom lip of the doors are clean. The interior is exceptional also. The original carpet is in great shape. The original seats are in great shape as well. This FJ, with proper maintenance and care, could easily last another 30-40 years. The off road capability of FJ's is legendary. It also cruises on the freeway effortlessly and at more than adequate speed. There's a sony disc player in the glovebox and a 10 disc changer under the seat. The dash was never cut up for a din mount stereo. So even the dash is unmolested. This FJ was purchased new by the previous owner's father. He worked at a museum. He took excellent care of it as you might expect. The reason I'm selling this is because I'm old and I no longer hunt or go camping. That is the reason I bought it. It's time for someone else to take it over and appreciate what it is truly capable of. Terms of sale... I can not ship...... I will however be more than happy to assist your shipper, however I can. If you have zero feedback, contact me before you bid or your bid will be canceled, and you will be blocked from further bidding as well. A $300.00 non-refundable deposit through Pay Pal is required within 48 hours of auction's end. PayPal is acceptable for the deposit only. The balance is due via bank/certified check, or cash in person within 7 days of the auctions end. If you are an out of the state buyer, I will gladly work with you in regard to the time and details. Thank you |

NHTSA opens safety investigations into Toyota, GM and Honda crossovers
Fri, 08 Jun 2012The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is evidently keeping itself very busy these days, as the federal agency has just announced it is launching or renewing investigations into Toyota, Honda and General Motors crossovers.
2006-2008 model year Toyota RAV4 crossovers are under review for allegations of rear tie-rod rust which can result in failure. NHTSA also said it is probing some 35 complaints about 2005 Honda Pilot models with inappropriate activation of the vehicles' stability control system. The alleged malfunction can cause the vehicles to slow down or stop in bad unsafe situations. At the moment, NHTSA is reviewing a petition regarding the Pilot issue, a move that will determine whether it needs to open a full-blown investigation.
In addition, Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia three-row crossovers built in 2007-2009 are getting looked at for "loss of low beam headlamp" function. One complainant said the wiring in his Outlook overheated and melted. NHTSA says it has received 415 complaints about the problem and a GM spokesman confirmed that the automaker already started a "Customer Satisfaction Program" in December to address the issue.
Toyota still wants Tesla's battery help, still evaluating RAV4 EV program
Wed, May 28 2014Tesla Motors said earlier this month that the agreement it has with Toyota to supply battery packs for the Toyota RAV4 EV SUV would be finished by the end of the year. The deal is done, but Toyota is now singing its best version of Baby, Please Don't Go. The Japanese automaker may look to extend the battery-pack agreement with California-based Tesla, Automotive News says, citing comments made by Osamu Nagata, who heads Toyota's manufacturing and engineering in North America. Nagata also complimented Tesla for its "clear business strategy." Toyota, which owns 2.5 percent of Tesla, started the RAV4 EV collaboration in 2012, in which Tesla was to make about 2,600 battery packs for the all-electric SUV. That agreement was estimated to be worth about $100 million. "We are also evaluating the RAV4 EV program and will have more to say at a later date" – Toyota "We have a good relationship with Tesla and will evaluate the feasibility of working together on future projects," Toyota said in a statement e-mailed to AutoblogGreen. "We are also evaluating the RAV4 EV program and will have more to say at a later date." And while Toyota hasn't quite met initial sales expectations – it sold about 1,600 of the RAV4 EVs through this spring – the company expects to reach 2,500 by the end of the year. And the partnership did generate about $15 million in revenue for Tesla, according to that company's first-quarter letter to shareholders. That said, Tesla is obviously focusing its battery-making efforts on its own models.
Toyota launches new Pixis Epoch kei car in Japan
Sat, 12 May 2012Kei cars may be small in size, but they're big business in Japan. The latest arrival to the category is the little hatch you see above, the Toyota Pixis Epoch.
It's the fourth vehicle produced by the Daihatsu division but sold under the Toyota brand. As with other keis, power comes from a 660cc engine. It's mated to a continuously variable transmission driving either just the front wheels or all four. In both configurations, the Pixis Epoch features a stop-start system that helps its emissions and fuel efficiency figures come in well below even the Japanese government's stringent standards.
The whole package measures just 3,395 mm (133 inches) long, 1,475 mm (58 inches) wide and 1,500 mm (59 inches) tall, but offers a relatively spacious and utile interior, plus a tight turning radius of just 4.4 meters. Pricing ranges from 795,000 to 1.2 million yen - that's less than $10,000 (and no more than $15k). Further details in the press release after the jump.
