We just had a new baby and recently upgraded to a full size SUV so we are selling our 2005 Toyota Camry.

This car is super dependable, we've never even had a flat tire. It has been maintained and kept very well. My father was the original owner and a maintenance maniac. He kept a little book in the car and recorded every detail of everything that was done to the car including, oil changes, tires rotations, cabin and air filter changes etc. He passed this down to us along with the car and now we keep records of all maintenance.

Mileage is just under 209,000 (mostly highway/state to state miles) but this model will last well past 350,000 miles.

The Toyota Camry is one of the highest rated cars for dependability and reliability.

When you talk to car owners, one name sticks out above all the rest when it comes to reliability—the Toyota Camry. In the United States, the Camry has been the best selling car for nine out of the last ten years. The only exception was 2001.

Best Rated Features of the Camry

  • Gas Mileage—Approximately 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway

  • Safety—2007 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration administered crash tests in which the Camry scored five stars in all areas except rollover, where it scored a four out of five.

  • Longevity—The Camry, like many Toyota products, is rated with a life expectancy of 150,000-350,000 miles. This figure is backed up by the number of customers who have reported their Camry still going strong after many years of use.

  • Lemon Reports—On the whole, the Camry is seldom reported as a lemon. There was a recall on 2007 models with about 133 cars being affected.

  • Repairs—2009 estimated cost of repairs over five years is about $500.

Toyota pondering high-performance GT86 hybrid?

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

From what Autocar has to say, Toyota has even more plans for the GT86 beyond the convertible concept we just saw at the Geneva Motor Show. Along with a planned midcycle facelift, Toyota is reportedly looking at how to pack some extra ponies under the coupe's hood, and while there has already been a lot of talk about superchargers and turbochargers, it sounds like a performance-boosting hybrid system could also be in the works.
Talking to Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, Autocar has learned that the automaker is considering an electrical motor assist for the sporty coupe to improve performance without harming fuel economy. In attempting to keep weight - and, presumably, costs - down, the article mentions the use of a system closer to what Honda uses for its Integrated Motor Assist rather than a full Hybrid Synergy Drive system used in current Toyota hybrids. Tada says the added weight of the system could be offset by weight reduction, while aerodynamic changes and a lower center of gravity could improve the car's handling.
No word yet on whether a mild hybrid system would find its way to North America's Scion FR-S - let alone its Subaru BRZ twin - but the thought is certainly an intriguing one.

2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Introduced at the end of 2006, this is the last year for the Toyota FJ Cruiser, the reincarnated FJ40-series Land Cruiser that will shortly journey to Takama-ga-hara, the Plain of High Heaven. In its first model year, we drove it to SEMA and found it, shall we say, coarse. It bobbled on the freeway and droned in the cabin, its boxy interior providing four bounce-boards for unpleasant frequencies. Tall mirrors helped one work around the eclipse of vision aft of the B-pillars, but navigating traffic required forethought and technique. Its turning circle was measured in kilometers. For the first two years of its life, it needed premium gas. It may have been fun to look at, but we couldn't wait to get out of it.
That's not the case anymore, and now the FJ Cruiser is poised to join a long list of vehicles that got better and better, then got axed.

Toyota SEMA concepts promote active lifestyles, rallying [w/video]

Thu, 31 Oct 2013

Toyota has six vehicles that it's bringing to the Specialty
Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show next week, all of which were developed by and for people who live active lifstyles. Four of them are the result of the Toyota Dream Build Challenge, which tasked a team of athletes and vehicle customization shops to build Toyota sedans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles in seven weeks that would enhance performance in their respective sports.
We'll lead off with the CamRally Camry, developed by NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman, Kyle Busch Motorsports and Mooresville, NC shop Detroit Speed, Inc. for the Dream Build Challenge, because it appeals to us gearheads (sure, call us one-sided). It was totally transformed into a rally vehicle, and it has to be the most badass Camry we can remember seeing. The sedan is always a bit flaccid-looking in stock form, but the CamRally's wide body and other exterior upgrades and the turbocharger make us forget about that, as do its stripped, painted interior and Sparco race seat.
