Vehicle Auctions (First time bidders see note at bottom)

This is a 2003 Saturn L200 seized by the Sheriff as a result of a forfeiture.  The answers to questions requesting additional information will be posted on the item description as the auction progresses.

Here is what I know:  The vehicle is a 4 cylinder with 183,000 miles on the odometer.  The engine runs, but unknown how well.  The tires are in poorcondition.

Flaws.   The vehicle needs to be jump started.  Since it’s been sitting awhile, the battery may need to be replaced.    Both front and rear bumber guards are damaged and the vehicle also has a cracked windshield.  Should be visible in a photo.

Keep in mind we have no history of the vehicle other than it was being driven when it was seized.  Since then it has sat in storage.  Good luck.

FORFEITED VEHICLES/SHERIFF’S SALES

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office currently disposes of forfeited vehicles through public auction on eBay.  The vehicles are listed with no reserve price, meaning the highest bidder wins the auction.  Auctions typically start at $100.00.  Vehicles are forfeited for a wide variety of reasons, from drunk driving to drug sales or fleeing a police officer. The vehicles also display a wide range of maintenance and repair (or disrepair, as the case may be).  The Sheriff’s Office does not have a mechanic, nor do we claim to know anything about vehicle maintenance.  For that reason, you are strongly encouraged to view the vehicle in person or arrange for someone to look at the vehicle for you prior to sale.  While the department will make every effort to note each defect or characteristic to help you make an informed purchase decision we simply don’t know cars to the level of detail that has been requested in some of the auctions held since the department started using eBay in 2002.  Bottom line, if the vehicle was being driven at the time it was seized we’ll tell you. From the time it comes into our possession, it gets towed or moved by flatbed. We don’t drive the vehicles. As such, we can’t attest to their operability.

As each vehicle listed for auction on eBay was forfeited, it is unregistered and unlicensed.  Both details must be taken care of before the vehicle can be driven off the lot.  Out-of-state buyers can purchase 31-day permits for $11.00 at the local license bureau, which would allow the vehicle to be driven.  Minnesota residents must handle license and registration transfer prior to the vehicle being driven.  The local license bureau office (5 minutes away) is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  As for the title, when we seize a vehicle a rather lengthy paper chase begins.  The end result of that paper chase is that the Sheriff’s Office becomes the legal owner of the vehicle and our name is on the title.  We do not begin an auction until we have that title in our possession. At the end of the auction, the title is transferred from us to you.  You will leave our office with the vehicle, keys and the title in hand.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Unless otherwise stated, the condition of this vehicle is unknown.

2. This item is being offered "AS-IS, WHERE-IS" with no warranty or other guarantee as to its condition or fitness for use. As mentioned above, we don’t drive the vehicles and can’t attest to their operability.

3. We do not ship vehicles and all transactions must be in person.

4. Purchaser is responsible for transportation to and from the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River, MN.

5. Unless otherwise specified, vehicle will be available for public inspection/pick-up at 13880 Business Center Drive, Elk River, MN 55330 weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central Standard Time.

6. Full Payment is due within 7 calendar days from the end of auction.

7. None of our vehicles come with license plates. Purchaser should check with local license bureau for licensing requirements.

8. Vehicle listed is offered on a competitive bid basis and must be removed within 20 calendar days from the end of auction.

Because of malicious buyers I cancel all bids of buyers with a (0) rating.  If you have a (0) rating you must contact me to bid.

303 Deaths Tied To Airbag Non-Deployment In 2 General Motors' Cars

Fri, Mar 14 2014

At least 303 motorists died in car accidents after their airbags didn't deploy in now-recalled General Motors vehicles, according to a study released late last night. The Center for Auto Safety, a non-profit automotive watchdog, reviewed data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, and counted deaths involving the Chevrolet Cobalt and Saturn Ion, two vehicles at the heart of several ongoing investigations, to reach its conclusion. If the airbag non-deployments were the result of a faulty ignition switch that inadvertently turns them off, the death toll would be the largest in automotive history attributed to a single defect, surpassing the 250 deaths investigators linked to defective Firestone Tires more than a decade ago. The rising death toll would further amplify questions about why GM and federal safety regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration didn't act sooner to correct the problem. Safety advocates have said both GM and NHTSA failed to act in a timely fashion to alert motorists of the dangers posed by the dangerous defect, of which documents GM had knowledge of as early as 2001 and NHTSA knew about in 2007. "The question today for NHTSA is how so many ... death reports without an airbag deployment and so many FARS deaths without an airbag deployment failed to trigger an investigation," wrote Clarence Ditlow, the executive director of the Center for Auto Safety. "... For the people who died or were seriously injured in crashes, the answer comes too late." GM has acknowledged 13 deaths related to the problem, and says the number cited by the Center for Auto Safety study is "speculation." The review of FARS data, conducted by Friedman Research at the request of the Center for Auto Safety, looked at fatal cases in which airbags did not deploy but did not analyze the causes of the crashes. FARS information is raw data submitted to a national database by state and local authorities when fatal accidents occur. Last month, GM recalled 1.37 million cars in the U.S. because a faulty ignition switch had been inadvertently moving from the "run" position to the "accessory" position, turning off engines and systems that provide power to airbags. "Shame is not a strong enough word," said Lou Lombardo, the founder of Care for Crash Victims, another safety-minded nonprofit that advocates for accident victims. The results of the CAS study were first reported by the New York Times.

GM Recalling Another 2.7 Million Vehicles In Five Separate Campaigns

Thu, May 15 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles. The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles – some of them the same models – but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago. The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents. A further 112k Corvette models from the 2005-2007 model years are being called in for problems with their low-beam headlamps resulting from a flexing relay control circuit wire that's not meant to bend. GM says it is "aware of several hundred complaints" about this issue, but notes that there have been no reports of related accidents. In addition, over 19k examples of Cadillac CTS from the 2013 and 2014 model years are being recalled over windshield wipers that might not work after a jump start. Finally, GM is also bringing in 477 examples of its 2014 Chevy Silverado, Tahoe and GMC Sierra (though not the Yukon) to fix a problem with a tie rod in its steering rack. As ever, all recall repairs will be performed free of charge, and GM is now estimating that recall-related actions this quarter will result in an estimated $200-million charge against its second-quarter earnings. NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
